Why not just write your own 70 to 90 page book and sell it on amazon and kindle instead of being paid pennies for the same amount of work writing articles

This is true, just go to any freelance site and view the jobs available. Most of the people have, (or should have) done their research and have determined there is a market for what they want written. Then just write and publish your own.

I do not do this myself, but I have thought about it

Do you think iWriter pays good money for what you are writing for them? I use to write articles for blogs online, but it was paying like a penny per word, which doesn't really add up unless you use a lot of filler words.

So your tips are to buy a premium membership and then buy Dragon?

No offense, but that's not advice on how to become a successful writer at all. That's advice on how to buy things.

There are hundreds of sites out there to find writing jobs on and there are billions of businesses looking for people with strong writing skills right now...today. If part of that process is "buy something" though, then it definitely is not a reputable website. In fact, you'd be better off writing on your own blog and not making anything than to pay for work, because at least that way you'd be building up a basic profile to show potential clients.

One other thing- I do use Dragon occasionally but it is not going to save a writer any time at all. Because by the time you fix all the typos, you could have just sat there and typed things out. Now, if you're super slow typing then that's a completely different problem- learn to type. You can't be a professional writer without being good on the keyboard.

That's the point though. If you want to be a writer, your typing skills are your one and only key to success (besides actually being able to write). Because whenever a client Skype's with you and asks for a custom paragraph on the spot, you're not going to be able to say, "Okay, hold on while I log out of Skype so I can use Dragon...I'll get back to you in 15 minutes or so." It doesn't work that way.

That's like being a plumber and showing up to a job saying, "Hold on, I have this program that makes the plunger go up and down because I'm not really good at it yet." It's simply unprofessional....you need to know how to use the tools of your trade. And for writers, that means you can type fast and accurately.

I've been a freelance writer since 2009, and I have never had a single client on Skype nor any other live chat session demand I write them a live sample right then and there.

Now, am I saying that will never happen? No. What I am saying is, don't let the fear of typing get in your way, nor the fear of a live writing demo... It's a once in a blue moon interview.

If you have writing skills and you lack typing skills, then, Dragon hugely beneficial to you in the world of digital writing. Heck, they have technology nowadays which can use a digital pad and pen to transfer text onto your computer.

Jeff, that was my thought as well. The only "step" the OP provided was to use Dragon Naturally Speaking...

My guess is he's more interested in getting exposure to the link in his sig than providing any value by starting this thread. Seems to be the trend on the forum these days....

I use fiverr and i pay 5 $ for an article of 500 words, seo friendly optimised. So is cheap and help your blog if you want to get some traffic form article writer.

My advice is to stay well clear of those content mills and be proactive by writing your own info products and PLR during down times between freelance gigs. Invest some time in your future rather than squander it for a few cents per hour - time that you'll never see again!

My opinion is - IWriter pays you very less for your articles. Apart from that, you will need to upgrade. I guess Bubblews is a better alternative. You can write 10 articles per day, and you can get started immediately.
You get paid $0.01 for every view/like that your article gets. Once you write your article, it is also promoted in the latest articles section and you get traffic immediately.
You get more and more views as you view and like articles that other people write. Virtually, you can make as much money as you want, from a single article

I agree that automated software can help although it takes time to learn your voice. I would avoid earning pennies writing articles I'd sell it as an ebook

The problem with iWriter, no offence to the owner, is that you don't get paid a lot for the articles and then when you do take them on you get poor reviews if you haven't managed to decipher the often vague instructions you are given. I personally would say there are better ways for a writer to make money but if you are starting out then you can make money on iWriter, but expect it to often be a struggle until you get plenty of reviews and can get the best jobs.

I have heard good things and bad things about iWriter.
Some say it works and they make good money from it. Good for them.
On the other hand, I have also heard that they system is not really in favor of the seller. You could write 10 articles for 10 people and they will buy them from you, but they also might not. So, you either earn some money or.. well, you just waste time writing articles that are not accepted. It's happened to people I know and, well, needless to say they gave up on trying to earn with iWriter.

You will never get rich writing for content mills. Why not do some freelancing, or create some guides and sell them as PLR.

Create some Kindle books, or create your own products. If your good at writing there are better ways to make much more money for your time.

By the way I have been using Dragon Naturally Speaking for many years and love it, a real time saver for me.

I'm not a writer but I will try to help with the step-by-step guide for writing that the OP forgot to add.

Step 1: Be good at writing
Step 2: Sign up to write on websites where people are looking for writers
Step 3: Bid/make offers on job postings
Step 4: Get hired and complete the writing job
Step 5: Get paid

Funny thing is that basic outline can be used for any business/service: Find/create product, go to where people are looking for the product, offer the product, make sales, get paid.

Now, writing is a weird thing on the internet, in my opinion. It is very undervalued because a lot of "writers" and "buyers" look for quantity over quality and have brought the prices to almost nothing. I wouldn't even think about writing online unless I desperately needed money. I wouldn't advise it as a way to make money for anyone that could competently write; just because i think there are many more businesses a person who can write can run and make a better ROI.

All you writers out there . . .

There are multiple ways to make money from your writing talent or skill.

Writing for others as a service is one way to do it. It doesn't pay you very well and it's probably the worst approach for a writer in terms of
- How much money you can earn
- How much hard work it will require
- How many others you're competing against
- How much control you have over what and how you write
- How much leverage you get in terms of being able to move to higher levels in your career
Writing for yourself as a product creator is another way to apply your writing skill.

There is some uncertainty about this approach as it will probably take you a little longer to get paid, it is not as "structured" in the beginning as working for someone else, and the outcome of your effort is not as predictable as providing a service.

The benefits to creating your own product are many (the term "product" is used very loosely here to include authoring a book, writing a blog, creating a digital product or a series of products, creating templates, creating PLR materials, creating reports, and on and on . . .)
- There is no ceiling to how much you can earn
- Hard work is still required by it seems less "hard" when you can write something once and get paid for that same thing over and over again because you own it
- Competition can be controlled by what you choose to write
- You have total control over the subject and manner of your writing
- There is unlimited potential in applying leverage to your writing career. When you put out quality material doors will open for you to monetize your talent in many other ways
So the choice is yours. Learn to write for others or learn to write for yourself.

Do whatever floats your boat but understand that each approach carries with it a very different set of potential outcomes.
