I am about to buy a domain name for blogging and need a name suggestion. Any ideas? I want to be broad.

You need to let us know what kind of blog it is, who are your target users. General rule is to keep it short and get a .com. If your domain name is easy enough to be shared over word of mouth that's a big plus.

Whatever your niche is, look out for a domain name that specifies a brand value. Don't look out for keyword specific domain and lastly look out for a .com domain if you are targeting the website for worldwide.

    Knights,

Just a word of caution. "Being broad" as you say is very difficult as you generally appeal to no one in particular.

Everyone coming online has their own interests. You're better off focusing on a audience with a specific need, problem, want, desire, etc. When you do that, you can identify people that will spend money with you as you can appeal to their interests.

When you just blog in generalities, there is no focus and no way to know what your audience wants. Plus, you will be competing against big business and big dollars spent on advertising.

Obviously, you will end up doing what you want . . . but every single blog owner that I have ever known that was successful in monetizing his/her blog did so by catering to a very specific audience. Trying to appeal to mass markets will lead to lousy conversions and very little money.

    The best to you,

    Steve

I completely agree with Steve and Zany.

If your aim is to make money from your blog then don't start out being 'broad'. Have a bit more of a think and focus in on a niche.

Of course, if you're (one of the few people here!) solely blogging for fun then you can be as broad as you like!

Regarding the domain itself, as others have said, you'll need to provide more info so that people have some kind of starting point for their suggestions.

I will also second the notion...the more narrow you get the better more defined target you can pursue and ultimately, imo, the more profitable you will be

    1. If anyone thinks of a good .com domain, he or she won't post it publicly, but register it.
    2. Stay away from broad range of topics.

I honestly think you should play around with a lot ideas and check for the competition level on Google, if google tells you that one of your ideas that is actually a great niche has low competition and good ads show up, then you probably should go by that domain name for great ranking on google

Is there a resource I can brain storm on niche and domain name?
Yes - YOUR BRAIN! From your posts it seems you are a college student so focus on subjects you know or target a market you understand. Choosing a niche comes before finding a domain name. Looking at previous posts you've made - you are all over the place.

You don't need to appeal to the broad "internet" - you need to attract a focused audience of people who either want to buy what you sell or have an interest in your hobbies/talents/knowledge.

Great advice on How to choose a niche: (google search - not my sites)h

How to Choose a Profitable Niche - Copyblogger

4 Proven Steps to Finding a Profitable Niche

When you are ready to choose a domain - identify some keywords you want to use - go to the site Jeff B. listed above or a similar "find domains" site - and you look for available domains (preferably .com).

Here's some insider knowledge: WHEN you find a domain you want to register on a registrar's site....register that domain and pay for it BEFORE you leave the site. I could go into a long explanation about why to do this - but trust me on this one and it will save you grief.

Well. If your main target to do business by this blogging, you should choose the .com domain. Though it is the expensive domain. but it is the best one. Then you should choose the domain related to your niche. You did not mentioned your niche. I hope you make you understand.
