How much should I invest...

I was thinking about starting to create a side income with Amazon FBA. What is a decent number I should look to spend to make a profit somewhere between $150-$300 a month? My focus will be books, CDs, toys, and other niches.

If you're just starting out or, indeed, unsure of what to do, I'd like to respectfully suggest you look for a mentor. There are mentors in every niche. The fees they charge are very reasonable and are minimal compared to what it could cost you working on your own. This is the mistake I made when I first started, as I thought I knew it all. I was very wrong, and it cost me a lot of time and a whole lot of money before I finally realized I needed a mentor--- someone to tell me what to do and show me how to do it. Good luck in your venture. I hope you make a lot of money. Keep smiling!

What I suggest is you make a product instead.
Ebooks are very popular on amazon , I'm currently writing a story. and to be honest yes it sounds like a lot of work but believe me when I tell you , it will pay off. I don't really know anything about amazon fba , but what I do know is that making a product is very easy, Like audio walkthroughs in business, 5 Step plans on ebooks, and you can be a vendor for this stuff and make it better. so I encourage you to make a product be a vendor , It will definitely make you money via amazon, clickbank, jvzoo, etc. and those are just 3 affiliate programs.
If you are interested in being under my wing I suggest you subscribe to my website and I will walk you through other things I know about making a product as far as selling on affiliate marketing and I'm sorry if my answer isn't exactly what you were looking for but I just wanted to help.

When you're new, you shouldn't invest more than you can afford to lose because it will be partly a case of trial and error and you can easily lose a lot. But having a mentor is a good way to help reduce the risk.

  • Avoid investing too much at first. It's too unreliable for somebody fairly new to this like yourself. Find something you can do that involves little upfront investment, and just use the money you earn there for the future.

I agree, you shouldn't be investing too much in this, just the tools you need and first try to use free traffic methods. It takes longer but this isn't a business you can rush things because you can lose a lot of money fast if you don't know what you're doing

When you decide to build an FBA business you can start out small and build the business as you go. There are many sources of inventory to consider and many types of products. It you start out as a basic seller, which I recommend, you will be limited in the categories you can sell in but you can still make a regular income.

If you go up to a professional seller account the fee is about $40 per month. I would wait on that until it makes sense and you are selling enough per month. Get you feet wet first, grow your business as you learn.

As far as product lines I quickly moved away from books and CDs as the market is rather saturated and those items did poorly, at least for me. Toys sell great. Try to deal with only new items as used can lead to some headaches.

You will need to test until you get a profitable campaign, no one can know but you, it can be $100 or it can be $300, but if you don't know what you are doing read a bit about it or find someone to mentor you.
