i worked with a company (in US) that did transactions with Nigeria and they always used the same account for the wire transfers and had it transferred to the main account within 24 hours.

I wouldn't do it. It sounds like it could be a scam. I would ask for a cashiers check or something that guarantees your payment without you having to disclose any bank information. There are so many scams on the Internet.

No. Too much scamming coming out of Nigeria. The only way i would even think about trusting the transfer is if there is a 2 week wait between payment and delivery

Internet scamming is a thriving Nigerian industry (sorry but its true). The expertise and inventiveness is staggering.

I recently had a great offer for a domain name I was selling that just turned out to be a scam. I was trying to buy a car on Autotrader in the UK ... again a scam.

My Nigerian friends laugh about it and tell me that they have whole internet cafe's full of guys trying a million and one angles.

It's so easy to deal with Paypal & some of the other recognised partners that I would question why anyone has to use Western Union. Unless of course people have no bank account or are hiding something.

I think that there are whole sections of ip addresses that should be blocked away from the rest of the internet. It would cut down on scams and greatly increase the amount of legit sales and productivity. And that includes most of Russia and Nigeria.

Yes, of course, giving a Nigerian your banking information is quite safe. Be sure to give them your password too, you know, so they can verify that the transaction was successful.

No Freaking Way. Don't give anyone your bank information. He wants access to your cash. If you proceed, expect to be victimized. Nigeria scams are real and I believe you have an opportunity to side-step this one.

Never give your information to anyone! There are too many ways to send money now to have to give your information out.

There are a lot of scams coming out of that area and you are better safe than sorry.

I don't know how your bank works but I can give a routing number for wire transfers and still not give out any sensitive information .

Ever thought of the possibility that this is a law abiding citizen who wants nothing more than to just buy a product but cannot use the payment structures offered by the seller because of the poor track record in his country?

There is a good possibility that he just wants to get the money to you and know of no other method than that which he has proposed. Give him an alternative (safer) method and you might be surprised. You might just end up with a happy customer.

Who cares if they are from Nigeria, there are lots of great warriors from Africas most populous country.

I know plenty of Nigerian folk. 'S what happens when you live in an ethnically diverse city such as London.

Open a new account only for wire transfers. Do not give him the details of your main account(s) - it probably is a scam so be careful!

I have worked and traveled in Africa multilple times. I have an African son. I have many close African friends who live in the US and in Africa. I am going back there in September for a work project. I love Africa!

But the short answer to your question is NO! Have him send the funds via wire to a third party service like Western Union. You can pick the funds up there and not jeopardize your privacy.

Obviously, No is the answer! I've seen in the news. There was this lady in Taiwan, was cheated almost to a million twd. He said to her that he's from the royal family and how much monies and businesses that he owns all over the world. The women was conned into buying properties for him in other countries.

Another case that I came across is a friend that met someone (Nig....n) from the facebook. This guy said to her that he needs to open a bank account by using cash (which he didn't have but he has foreign cheque) and asked my friend if she would help to cash for him first and he will send the cheque to my friend.... Luckily she didn't fall for that.

I was scammed by a Nigerian for $100,000 this was 10 years ago and it hurt! So you can guess my views on the subject. For Nigerians it is in there nature to scam or cheat or take bribes and this has been for many years. However recently there was a television program in Nigeria where they are trying to clean up this image and business' are now performing without bribes.

If he has a credit card try 2CO. com. There are really dozens of other merchant accounts out there to check out...but if there aren't any that service Nigeria I would go with a western union deal.

I have clients in the Congo and 2CO works there.

It sounds like a scam to me i would avoid it at all costs.

Nigerians cannot send western union. I am a Nigerian residing in South Africa. A lot of people responding to this thread are talking as if they are not enlightened. There is no way he can remove your money from your bank account unless you send it to him. If money could be easily removed from your account, then you should change your bank. Giving someone your bank account details will not make scammers to remove money from your account. Wake up guys this is 21st century. People that are scammed unknowinlgy and willingly send money to them, it was not removed from their account.

This just sounds fake. Who can't use paypal. That sounds odd.

They say they cant use clickbank because they want to get to your bank acct so never give away your bank details esp Nigeria as they are known for their scam artists no direspect I used to live their in Lagos and Nigeria and its a really nice place, however there are a lot of theives there we had to have secuty gaurds etc so never disclose your bank fetails to anyone they can use Western Union or something similir.I hope this helps

Sounds way too sketchy to me. Tell him to mail you a check or pay with Western Union. If he can't do both, then he's just there to try to scam money out of your ban account.

Your buyer may be perfectly honest and sincerely intend to pay for your product but how do you know the guy sitting next to him in the cyber cafe won't get his hands on your bank info then sell it to someone else? Scammers make a living hacking and selling and reselling just such data. When this type of info hits the black market they often sit on it for a few months before hacking into your finances.... then one guy takes a bite and sells the info to the next and so on and so on...

How much money are you talking about? And how badly do you need to make this sale? If it's only a few bucks then I'd say you've already wasted too much time just thinking about it. If you're talking about a big ticket item tell him to pay via Western Union. Then you can spend more of your valuable time and burn some gas driving to the WU office to pick up the cash.

Seriously, just think about why automated payment methods like Paypal and Clickbank are preferred ~~~ Aside from being relatively safe, they are fast and convenient. How much is your time worth?

Chukwuma, that was a nice offer and maybe Michael will take you up on it, but to be on the safe side, I would still recommend Michael to use Western Union or MoneyGram, as I have had friends who had their money taken out of their accounts from people within the USA and since they gave them the info, they had every right to do this.

So no, never give anyone your banking info and I do wire transfers all the time buying Harleys and off road vehicles, but only use this account for this only and nothing else.

I used to run a company that imported tuned porsche parts and motors. We regularly, had transactions that ran into tens of thousands of dollars.

With these large amounts, credit cards and paypal was a poor option due to losing transaction charges.

So we just set up a separate acct that took incoming wires. We had the info for this acct on our website for our clients to have (under payment).

Anyhow, its turly sad that my country of birth has become so badly perceived because greed - the scammer greed but ALSO, the "Mark's". I still cant understand:

1) how anybody could simply think that they can have the heavens randomly open untold riches to them, and THEN

2) Require ANY amount of money sent the opposite way to "claim" it.
