Buying $10K website that used a PBN?

I was thinking of buying a website in that range, but i'm seeing that most of them are using PBNs.

I've seen too many sites get hit by google with PBNs.

What are your thoughts of buying a site that used Private Blog Networks? Is it worth the risk?

      I would say it entirely depends on the link profile of the PBN sites, whether or not they look like legit sites (some look almost entirely like regular sites), and if they're niche targeted or not.

      Are the pbn sites targeted entirely around the niche/market of the main site? Specialized sites tend to get deindexed less often than general topic pdn sites. Most of the weaker strength SEO's will use more general pdn sites/blogs because it's cheaper to do and they can use that one site for several different markets.

      If the link profiles of the pdn sites are pretty strong; nothing spammy with good long term history, then the site might be worth looking at.

      The fact that you're paying upwards of 5 figures makes all of this digging worth your time. You don't want to invest just to find out that your site eventually gets penalized by potentially weak pdn sites.

    Many sites have been hit by Google's Penguin penalty solely by the sources of the links pointing to their sites. 10k for a domain name with the potential for unwanted attention from Google search engine algorithms; proceed with caution on this one? It might be all good or the alternative is a 10k investment that could potentially be worth nothing. Some webmasters are spending that sort of money paying companies to recover from search engine penalties.

    If you're looking for a no-nonense response..

    If you need help from a Forum to tell the legitimacy of a site based on it's PBN history and you're paying 10K for it, you shouldn't go ahead with the purchase.

    PBN's are going downhill and if the PBN of that sites has any sort of footprints, you're moneys as good as the next Google Update.

      You should check the metrics on the domain name to see where most of the traffic is coming from. If the traffic is mainly coming in from the backlinks that are set up, then you really don't need to worry about Google at all.

      If most of the traffic is organic from search engines, then you will want to check to make sure that the backlinks are not spammy because Google will definitely kick you out of the search results in time.

    I would say that if the website has a diverse link profile from other authoritative sources that is supported with PBN's then you should be fine. Do the PBN's come with the sale of the website too? That would be important for me as a buyer.

    1. Is this site still ranked using the PBN's?

    2. Are these public or truly private PBN's?

    3. How many OBL's are on these PBN's?

    4. Are the PBN's niche targeted?

    5. Do the PBN's have spun content on them?

    6. Are the PBN's still indexed?

    You need to ask these questions and more because PBN's are not bad in of themselves. It is how they are used that is problem. If they are truly quality private PBN's then you should have not much to worry about.

    Also, you need to make sure your anchor text is not over optimized with them.

      I'd rather stay away from pbn's but it's interesting to see that most sites with good organic traffic have been built with pbn's.

      I'll definitely do more digging, i was curious what others thought of pbn sites and i can see that if a pbn is actually a "real site" and related to the niche then it could be fine.

        Yeah again just do good due diligence on them and you will be alright. If you want to rank quickly and steady PBN's are pretty much the last game in town.

        Just go over to seorountable.com and look at all the fools proselytize about being "white hat" and then complain that they never rank. Bottom line is you need link juice today to get anywhere meaningful in the SERPs.

    If the private network comes with the site, that is a much less risky proposition. I have seen people selling sites they prop up with their own network. After they make the sale, they change all the links.

    I would be a bit worried about the quality of the network. There are a lot of different footprints that can get a network in trouble. As long as they are avoiding those, it could be a worthwhile purchase.

    Plus if it is a good network, you potentially could use it to rank other sites in the same or similar niches.
