I am not in this market, and have no desire to be, but the question was intriguing.

Firstly, as a newcomer to Internet marketing, I would suggest that you avoid adult products completely - at least until you have built up some solid experience of selling online. I know that the old adage 'sex sells' is appealing to newcomers, but the truth is that the adult market is highly competitive and - as you have discovered - difficult to drive traffic to by normal means.

Having said that, if it was me trying to drive traffic to such a page I would think outside the normal box. I think I would write a series of 'steamy romance' novels (or more properly novellas) that I could publish on Kindle. Each one would feature, probably not by name, but by 'effect' a particular product that I wished to promote.

As an aside, as a male, I wouldn't write the stories myself. I'd outsource them to a female writer because men's and women's ideas on what is steamy are very different!

At the end of each book I would add a page 'explaining' which products were featured and where the reader could get them from - adding a link to my page.

Porn sites are generally viewed by men. Erotica, on the other hand....

I have a way of promoting adult products which works great no matter what the competition. It's my own brand name SEO method I devised that I use which ranks you almost instantly on Google's/Bings first page and generates laser targeted organic buyer traffic within 24 hours (depending on target country) and starts making sales soon after. No waiting about!

I'd need to know the brand name of the product to explain my method in detail. If the brand name has a lot of searches according to the Google Keyword Planner then it will work very well. The product needs to be very popular for my method to work.

A word about PPC.

If you bid on just the product (brand) name you should have no problems getting ads approved. Bid on the following and you will make easy sales and achieve a high ROI.

If creating a review site for the vibrator include the following:

Use "phrase" match. Set your CPC to $1.00 per click at first and check your position. You need to be in the top 3. On Bing they won't charge you a dollar per click it's usually much lower.

A word about porn sites

As the poster above said they are viewed mostly by men. It's very unlikely you will make a single sale. Male enhancement products/adult dating CPA offers on the other hand work well I've found.

Try thinking outside the box on this.

What about targeting the keyword "50 shades of grey"?

I'm sure at least 90% of the searches will be done by women... and there is a common bond between the book and what you're offering.

Man there's a lot going on here and even as I type I don't know what stance I'm taking. So while I decide a quick bit of background on me so you know who I am.

I run a marketing agency and one of our clients is involved in the marketing of adult toys. Not normally a client we would take but due to various connections we took them on board and have a great working relationship.

I've mentioned it on here before but we cleaned up on hype around 50 shades and during that process we learnt a lot things.

So to start with a few questions

Why did you choose this market
What research have you put in
Who is your ideal customer
and why did you choose the product you are promoting.

This will give me a good idea of where you are at.

A couple of things I have picked up on though:

It's not and by doing this you are missing out on the market of people interested in trying, newbies etc.

People have real concerns about this and you need to address this through faqs on your site. I don't think this is an appropriate place to go through those questions and they should have come up in your market research.

You could easily expand your market by putting together a report on 'which vibrator should you choose'

This is a poor train of thought you are on and I've two major concerns. Firstly you don't seem to understand the market you want to advertise in front of.

Ask yourself these questions 'are the visitors to porn sites in a buying frame of mind?' and secondly 'if they are what is it that they are likely to buy?'

So to my final thoughts research the market into who actually buys adult toys you'll be surprised at the ratio.

Secondly ask why these products are bought? There is a whole secondary market of gag gifts and hen parties to explore. The gay market shouldn't be ignored either.

Once you are armed with these your entire approach is different, your copy is different your content is different and your bottom line is different.

Armed with this knowledge you can position yourself to get you ads listed on Google and Bing quite easy.

This is bunch of nonsense who says that you can't drive adult traffic to your site? You can either do it by SEO or go the route of adult traffic networks(plugrush,exoclicks etc) to drive traffic to your site. If you want to, you can also use ppv to drive adult traffic as well. Usually female vibrator would gel well with lesbian audience.

why not find it in the adult network ?

advertising on porn sites is not expensive....you just need to search around providers.

I'm not as knowledgable about the marketing aspect as others, but I thought I'd add a few thoughts from the perspective of a consumer in your chosen niche.

You need quality content that guides consumers in their choices. It really isn't self-explanatory at all, given the large variety of different types of vibrators and the numerous options within each category. This is actually a purchase far more personal and potentially complicated than selling toasters or whatever. And when most women enter this market, they probably don't have much of a clue of what the differences between all of the products are, aside from appearance and price.

Take a look at goodvibrations.com. They have tons of consumer guides for shoppers, ranging from general information to guides targeted at specific markets (i.e. couples, gay men, African Americans, etc.) Now that's something that is useful.

If you want to sell just one product, though, I'd recommend the original magic wand vibrator. It has a good reputation among women who use vibrators and has a relatively high price.
