Ok im a harsh noob to this and it took me long enough to ftp to my site..I ftp files to my public_html folder in there and i still cant see my website on it domain, all I see is the godaddy page. I heard somthing about a DNS but I have no clue what that is. Also I have dreamweaver and seems kinda complicated, is there a program I can just drop and drag in a site like enviroment..Like fisher price for websites? lol

Do you have an "index.html" page in your public_html folder?

Every day I check the obituaries. If I don't see my name there, then I know it's going to be a good day!

you might want to check that you have pointed your domain name your server.

Use the chat feature at the host company or check your welcome email to find out the name server settings.

It should be ns762.websitewelcome.com etc... then go to GoDaddy and set the DNS to that.

It should work as long as one of your files in the hosting account is index.php or index.html

SourceForge.net: Find and Develop Open-Source Software for the ftp program "filezilla". You can drop and drag with that. Your domain servers should have been set up when you purchased the domain with Go Daddy, and then addon domain to the top level domain which is the main site, with your hosting.

You have to match the DNS code (it's looked like ns.xxxxx.com) between your domain account with your webhosting account. It is so easy at cpanel domain, find a manage DNS or something words like that,an then change with DNS from your hosting provider

The nameservers will be set up if you are using GoDaddy to host your site and you have your domain name registered there also. If not you will have to change your DNS settings to point towards your hosting servers. Also as stated above you must have an index.html or index.htm file in your public_html folder. Also depending on how long ago you did all this it may take some time to propagate, but you should still be able to login under the IP address.

Is your Hosting Account with Godaddy? If it is you don't need to worry about nameservers.

If you are hosting with another web host you will need to change the nameservers at godaddy to point to your host account.

In cpanel look right at the bottom in the left column you should see your account info your nameservers start with NS.

Copy this # & go to Godaddy, log into your Godaddy account.

Go to Domains dropdown my domains & click on your sites URL

Select domain servers from the top menu

Select i host my domains with another provider & paste in the 2 NS.####'s

Click OK & your done, it may take anything from a few mins to a day for your for the name servers to change over so have patience

Yes this is exactly the questions I was going to address and add comments on. This is most likely the exact steps you will need to take. I am sure some fellow Warriors will be willing to walk you through. To newbies - changing over DNS can be a little intimidating - you can probably find a video tutorial as well somewhere on youtube that will walk you through it.

This problem is usually caused by DNS not set correctly and the DNS not propagated through the rest of the world so you cannot see it.

First thing first. I don't mean to make you look stupid but just wanna make sure you know the difference between domain hosting and web hosting.

Domain hosting - in this case, your domain is hosted on Godaddy because you bought it from there

Web Hosting - unknown you did not specify. This is where you sign up for web hosting to store all your webpages (html, php or asp) files.

Assuming that your Web Hosting is NOT Godaddy - You need to login to your account at goddady, go to my domains page, click on your domain and change the nameservers (DNS). If your Web Hosting is with Godaddy then you should not need to change that.

Once you have change the nameservers, you need to give it some time before the setting will propagate to the rest of the world including your area. Then you should be able to access your site.

I am sure someone can help you here if you let us know who you are hosting your website with?

Hostgator puts the NS.### in the location i mentioned maybe your host does something else?

Were your name servers not listed on your sign-up confirmation email?

Let's not make it worse than it is: don't give advice if you don't know what are you talking about!

There is no "domain hosting" as you define it. It is called DOMAIN REGISTRATION done with a registrar. Godaddy is a registrar. As a side business they also have hosting services (and a bad one).

With "web hosting" you actually do host your domain somewhere on a server when you buy a hosting package for your domain(s).

And nobody should registrar and host with the same company - see another thread about 1&1.

Ya the video is great..I wish I woulda had it a few hours ago but the problem is I already did that and I called godaddy. They sayd the domain has been switched so I typed my domain in 10 mins later and I still get a godday site. I cleared my cookies and what not..still no go.
