WordPress.org. You access it via registering your own domain name and getting paid hosting. Then you install the WP platform onto your account.

WordPress.com is totally free, but you may not be able to set it up as an affiliate site.

Most hosts have a 1 click install for wordpress these days.
      Check with your host.

Wordpress.prg is much more suitable than Wordpress.com if it is used as affiliate site.

The main problem with Wordpress.com that you cannot modify the PHP source code when you want to make some changes to your site. You can’t upload many plugins (as like Wordpress.org), even though there are plugins available on WordPress.com, however these plugins only represent a small fraction of tens of thousands of plugins available on WordPress.org.

    Definitely ORG

As another said, when you order your hosting for your url, you will be given access to your website's C-panel. In C-panel you can install WordPress or other scripts with just a few clicks, and it's all laid out for you and simplified so it is easy for a first timer.

Let me know if you need a hand.

Wordpress.org is for self-hosted wordpress blogs. Basically, you can download wordpress and install it on your server.

It's easier now. You just have to find a better hosting provider.Choose a shared hosting plan. You will also get a domain absolutely free for 1 year.

The hosting Cpanel has "1 click WordPress installation service" which lets you install WordPress instantly.

Once your blog is up and running you can start writing articles and promote your affiliate links.

I'm also running a self hosted WordPress blog for over 3 years now. I started with BlogSpot and then migrated to wordpress.

When you do affiliate marketing on your own domain, you purchase a domain name and hosting. After you have bought hosting, you're able to log into your control panel of said domain and install Wordpress on your domain for free. I use Hostgator, and it used to be common to use the plugin "Fantastico" (still there). Recently, though, Hostgator has added "Quckinstall." I've been using it on my last few sites. They do the same thing. I'm assuming "Quickinstall" is better for security purposes or something since it's newer.

It is best to go with your own domain name and your own hosting. This way it will remain yours and less headaches if you want to change over to anything else...people will also take you more serious...I am in the process of starting up my second website and it is like having another child. I am excited.....get a domain name from someone like namecheap and it's yours until you new it again...then get your hosting from a separate server......that will get you started...have fun....because it is!

I hope the information below can give you a help on what would be the perfect platform for your affiliate marketing.
A simplified version is this: WordPress.org is an information and “grab the software” repository; WordPress.com uses the same core software, but focuses on the provision of hosting services.
