Is Having A Mentor A Sign Of Weakness?

Hi,

Do you think that having a mentor is an admission of weakness?

Also,

I've been wondering earlier about the benefits of having a mentor. I know that having somebody to guide you is important but I want to hear it from those who've actually had or have one.

I trained in ZEN for four years and all the while I was guided by a Sensei or teacher which is somebody who's been there before you. So I'm very much inclined in establishing proper relationship with a guide.

Now, I would like to ask all of us here the questions below to be able to see how valuable a mentor is in our field. That is if you are in favor of it.

Your answers will be highly appreciated.

1. Do you have an IM mentor? or Are you an IM mentor?

2. What was your success rate?

3. What was the biggest problem you've overcome while in a Mentor program? (as either a student or a mentor).

4. How much do you charge?

5. What are the qualities you look for in a Mentor?

6. If you are a Mentor what are the qualities you look for in a Student?

That's all for now.....

Thanks,

oMar/Rapidscc

Personally I believe you can learn a lot and push yourself further with a mentors help. A mentor can also see your weak areas and help you improve.

      Hi Hamish :-)

I liked your idea of looking at it..Instead of seeing them as Mentors we could think of them as trusted advisors..They are not really there to run our IM lives but to give us some perspective that we might not see or we don't really know. Something that's worked for them already.

      That's a good one..
