How do you make any money with GoFundMe?

Hey everybody. I was just thinking about how great it would be to use GoFundMe to make money in order to get funds to promote your website. I'm pretty sure they aren't allowed in your signature but could anybody tell me how they are able to get donations with them? I have seen some that are basically the same thing that have generated some good money but have also read that it usually picks up with anonymous donations after you get over a $1000. Have these people just gotten support from their friends and family to get the ball rolling or is there any other way to get people to start helping you out? This may be a pipedream but it is amazing how much some of these can end up making and would also like to be able to show people that are broke and hopeless. Just wondering but I would appreciate any feedback on this issue

You could make up a story that you or your family member is extremely sick with cancer and you cannot pay the bills. I am sure people will donate.

Or you could put your energy into a real IM strategy that will will propel you forward into earning your own money.

I'm not talking about lying or god forbid saying that somebody has cancer. I was just wondering if anybody had any success with this, as I've seen other campaigns like this that have made money. I'm willing to work hard at it and hopefully reinvest my profits but seems like it is a struggle for everybody starting out and thought this would be cool

Why would people give you money so you can make more money? It really comes across as begging tbh.

All of the crowdfunding sites are illusions in a way, because well over 90% of the total money earned comes from your own efforts. What you're really doing is raising the funds all by yourself through email and social marketing, and then paying the crowdfunding site 6-11% of your profits for being able to use the site.

Now, that's not to say that it's not a viable option...but you do have to realize that you'll earn almost every penny by working your sources and networking your butt off. As long as you're up for it, then it's a solid way to get a head start on almost anything. But make no mistake....the donations are coming from your friends, family, business associates and their extended friends. These aren't random people you're marketing to.

I have never looked at it that way. Because I would hardly doubt that the site itself sends any traffic that actually gives a donation. Unless you have something really intriguing going on.

There is 3 types of donors in crowdfunding sites:

      1. The commited - already commited to supporting you when they arrive
      2. Inspired - become inspired to support you after they arrive
      3. The shopper - will shop (and tagentially support you)

That is from the book Music 4.0 by Bobby Owsinski

If you don't already have a strong following, it's going to be difficult since the commited is the #1 source.

Well, #1 and #3 are actually the same thing...it's your supporters wanting the product on those types of crowdfunding projects.

But # 2 in your formula is going to be less than 5% of your total donations on most websites until a huge momentum burst is built up and the site jumps in to promote their 6-11% interest. That's why all of those sites only feature campaigns that have already succeeded or are on the brink.....they're not going to mention you unless they're definitely getting paid.

So before you get all those strangers, you'll already be at 80-90% of your goal...which means the campaign is 100% on you to succeed or fail.

That was kind of what I was thinking as well and why I said that you usually have to raise around $1000 to get any kind of support from anonymous donations. I guess it really depends on your cause as well and if somebody truly needs it for a good cause, or gets sick or something, then most people will have a heart towards them. I have seen people that have raised over $1000 towards starting a website but that could have been mostly people they knew
