Question about solo ads

I know there are solo ad networks or places where you can get solo ads, but can't you also just approach other people in your niche who also have a list and ask them if they'd be interested in you paying them to run a solo ad for you to their list?

If so, can't I just compile a list of people in my niche that have a list and try that with all of them?

What is the best way of paying them - per click or per person that ends up subscribing to your list? I could see how they could track the number of clicks since it's in their email, but I don't see how I could track the clicks. So it seems like they could lie to me that way. And I might be able to track how many subscribe to my list some how, but I don't see how they could - so for all they know I could be lying to them.

Is this why people go through solo ad networks so neither side can screw the other? Or is there another way of doing it where both parties can keep track of clicks or subscribes?

I just figure that if I go to all of the people in my niche with a list then I might find some that I wouldn't find at the solo ad networks.

    You are bang on.

Just network with people in your niche and forget about generic solo ad sellers.

I would say that the highest potential for solo ads is through people who don't know the real value of their list. (So you can tap into a resource they don't even fully value).

Also, regarding cost - I would suggest ASKING a prospective vendor what they would be happy with.

Let THEM decide how much they want to charge, because you might be shocked at how little they value their list.

Just a little brainstorming, and I hope it helps...

EDIT: I don't want you to think that solo ad marketplaces are a total scam. I've been buying solo ads since 2011ish, and I happen to love solo ads. But be warned, a lot of work is required to make solo ads work. They're not as easy as many gurus proclaim, nor as "evil" as many pessimists would suggest.

What you're looking for are solo ad vendors that are reliable and ones that can get you good quality traffic. Can they guarantee you clicks? Are some of the clicks you buy actual buyers and not just freebie seekers? These are some of the things you need to focus on if you want to make money online with solo ads. By the way list size doesn't mean a hill of beans if the solo ad vendor can't guarantee you clicks. I think you get the point.

Here is an awesome group on Facebook if you're looking for good vendors to buy solo ads from. Here you go:

I don't think it matters if someone sells solos professionally. That does not mean they abuse their list. In fact it is actually the opposite as those lists remain responsive because most are being mailed DAILY.

What you want is to be working with a seller that has recent positive testimonials about sales especially from known, trusted people.

I have mentioned Udimi.com as a good alternative place to buy solos then the Skype or FB groups at least in the IM niche. There is more structure there and the feedback is truly arms length.

This is a prime example of the very thing to avoid.

A large majority of solo ad testimonials are made by solo ads sellers within their syndicate and its fooling less people daily to the point where it will become redundant.

Clicks are the sound a mouse button makes. Sales make the money.

Keep your own list clean and do business the proper way whilst limiting liability by networking with people who are likeminded.

This is not true. I don't know where you are buying your solos from. While there are always a couple bad apples in every business the people I deal with and the traffic I get is of the highest caliber. I have the sales to prove it.

PM me if you need some references.

I appreciate your offer but I speak from quite a bit of experience and therefore would no longer utilize generic solo ads or their recommendations for reasons mentioned.

If only you knew the crazy sh!t some of those people do to simulate clicks, you'd likely never buy another solo ad again.

for sales only.... means sales testimonials only... just search for consistent sellers with sales testimonials. That means they always include their buyers list while sending out broadcasts....
This group was made as a response to a heavy number of people in the first group getting away with murder selling 1000's of bot clicks without being detected. The only way to measure a decent solo is to measure the amount of $$$ through sales is being generated.

I've seen what a lot of the heavy hitters in the solo ad space do for clicks, and though they might not use bot clicks your clicks are likely to be from subscribers who are on a TON of different lists.

To have a few hundred clicks from a list of 10,000+ is just atrocious (and that's with a good email swipe + resent to unopens), but that's literally more or less the norm for solo ad vendors. And that's because the leads are burned out.

IF you'd like a decent alternative to solo ads you might try opt-intelligence.com. The leads aren't on hundreds of other lists and the response rate has been far better than what I've seen from most solo ads I've run (you per opt-in with that service).

Yes, and that's the best you can do imo.

There are good solo ad sellers out there, but the one's who sell clicks for a living aren't the one's you should be buying from. Let's say they don't really take good care of their list.

Thanks a lot everyone. So when looking for a solo ad seller you want to work with someone who is reliable, has positive testimonials/feedback, and can guarantee you clicks. And you can find some like that at Udimi.com and on that facebook group.

But, how can they guarantee you a certain amount of clicks? Do they track the click or do you? Because if it's them then there's no way they can guarantee you a certain amount of clicks. Just because they click on the link which takes them to your opt-in page doesn't mean they're all going to opt-in either.

What about all those other people in your niche with lists that aren't out there trying to sell solo ads? Does anybody bother trying to get solo ads from those people? I'm curious about how you would go about asking them and setting it up. Like what you would say to them in the email. And who actually writes up the solo ad - them or you?

I have so many dang questions, maybe you can just recommend a book or something. How did you learn about solo ads?

If you go to Udimi they offer free click tracking and do not pay the seller unless the agreed too clicks have been sent.

If your using someone from an FB group then you can purchase a click tracker. The one I use is called Quality Click Control. You can google it for more info but it allows me to keep track of all my inbound and outbound clciks . There are some other good trackers out there like Clickmagic.

These trackers also keep track of optins into your squeeze page as well.

With regard to finding undisclosed sources. Yeah you just contact them and say hey I am interested in running a solo ad with you. Then if they respond you just go from there and hammer out the details.

Typically with swipes the person who buys the solo writes it. However, many list owners actually like to write their own. And in many ways this is better because they know their list better. I prefer when sellers are picky about swipes as it means they generally treat their list well.

      Hope that helps

The beauty of connecting with others in your niche instead of buying generic solos is that you can offer an adswap which usually doesn't involve spending any money if you have a significant list to market to in return.

You can also boast of your lazer targeted sales results, as can the person you connect with as a selling point once you have established some form of trust, which is all important.

Better results. Better business. Everyone's a winner.

As far as tracking my Solo Ads:

      1. I give my vendor a custom link that I can track
      Eg. www.site.com/?t=vendornamedatepurchased.
So the link I would give would look like www.site.com/?t=johnsmith08012015
      2. I used a plugin called Pretty Link to change that link to something like
      www.site.com/jsmith
      3. I can now track which leads came into my autoresponder from that solo ad by searching for /t= in my list of subscribers.

Pretty Link has some analytics built into it, but mainly I prefer this method because it allows me to have multiple traffic sources going at once and track who came from where.

Hope my explaination was clear as mud for you.

    YES!

That is called: "Using Your HEAD".

This way you can hand pick those that have PROVEN buyers on their lists
too and are targeted to whatever offer/service you have.

Do these people sell their own products?

How many sales have they made from their product launches?

You can get great idea of how many buyers they have by checking
out their stats etc at an affiliate marketplace.

Then you try and network with them, help them out in any way you can.

Break the ice first, then ask whether they would do you a deal on some
    kind of solo ad.

Well done and I think you're thinking ahead of the other 99% herd out there.

    To track my links:
    1. I create a tracking link via ClickMeter.
    E.g. my domain: mydomain.com/landingpage
Creating a link via ClickMeter: trackinglink.com/lp

    2. I insert a conversion pixel into my checkout/thank you page so that it'll automatically track the opt-ins

    3. I pass the vendor my tracking link (trackinglink.com/lp).

Well you always pay by click, which typically ranges from $0.35 to $0.50.

Here's a guide on solo ads I recently wrote:

    Hope this helps!
