Question about youtube keywords.

Hello!

I'm creating my first youtube channel and don't know a lot about keywords research.

My youtube channel is about dogs and i want to upload my first video.
It's a video of a really really cute dog (pug) in a dog bed. I wanted to use the "cute dog" or "cute dogs" keywords but someone told me it's highly competitive.
Now i'm kinda lost. I don't really know what keywords are the best for my video.

Can someone give me a example of decent keyword for my video?
I'm not asking you to make the work for me, i've read some threads and articles about keyword research but i still don't get it. I feel dumb.
That example could help me a lot and help me to understand my mistakes.

Thanks.

You can search in Youtube for top viewed, viral and popular videos that are directly and laterally relevant to the topic and sub topics of the videos you're planning to post in your channel. Here's why:

You can generate (and verify, which I'll also talk about later in this post) some keyword ideas from the titles, descriptions and tags of those videos; and

By using those tags in your own videos -- You can increase the likelihood of your videos in being listed at the related videos sidebar of those videos. This can funnel the traffic of those videos to your own videos ...

And, to verify if there is significant demand in Youtube Search and Google Search for the keywords that you got from doing the things above, and also for generating new keyword ideas -- You can use a combination of these tools:

    • Google Trends
    • Youtube Trends Map
    • SpyFu
    • Keyword Snatcher
    • BuzzSumo
    • SocialMention
    • Twitter Search
    • Suggested keyword terms by Google and Bing when you type relevant keywords
    • Google Adwords Keyword Planner
    • Bing Keyword Tool
    • Social Lead Freak

    Hope this helps ...

Youtube is much like search in google, or elsewhere. Your first video won't make your channel rank for anything outside of the long tail.....if even that.

If you want to rank for "cute dogs" have you looked at the current channels which rank for it. How many videos do they have? How many subscribers?

Read our most recent articles on wine, this month it's that unappreciated region called Napa Valley.

    Ok thanks for your replies.

    But there's still something i don't understand.
Let's say i'm targeting the keyword "cute cat sleeping", does it automaticaly target the "cute cat" keyword too?
And when you are looking at the keywords in the google keyword planner, how many monthly searches do you consider decent for a keyword?

Last question: do you think "black pug" is a decent keyword for youtube?

    I second this ^

It's indeed difficult to become popular with one video and one highly competitive keyword! So, try turning it into a long tail keyword, preferably describing the action of the video!
And, of course, keep uploading videos! The more you have, the more chances you have of getting more subscribers.

I agree - go for a long tail keyword.
Optimise your title and description for the keyword.
Name the thumbnail for the video with the same keyword.

Youtube search works much the same as google search in terms of auto suggestions. just plugging in those terms in YT search gives you ten popular keywords to start with.

Take those ten and plug them into YT search and now you have 50 more.....pick and choose what you can use.

Create other videos targeting the same terms and link them together in the description and with a unique personal tag in the tags area eg. "Sleazoid Cute Dogs"

The problem is backlinks don't work with YouTube the same way they do with Google. If your channel is about "dogs" you're not going to get far, even if someone gives you a specific, targeted keyword, 90% your traffic isn't going to be looking for.

For example, 90% of traffic who searches for "train your dog to beg" isn't going to look at your video, because it isn't about that.

You need to get REALLY specific, offer a really specific video, and a really specific solution in whatever you want to promote.
