I doubled my opt-in rates on my squeeze page by doing this

Hi everyone,

I'm not going to share the squeeze page address for now because I'm still gathering stats, and I don't want a bunch of WF members skewing the numbers (I can share it in a few days) ... but I finally got around to using video on my squeeze page and I love the results.

My old page was simple. Header graphic, headline, some text explaining the freebie in exchange for an email address. It was only getting about a 13% opt-in rate.

My new page is VERY simple. Same header image and same background colours. Same headline, and one line of text under the headline that says "Press play on this video to learn more about my methods".

Then I have used the Worpress plugin "Flash video player" to add a video to my site. The size is 480 x 360 and fits nicely on the page. Not too big or too small.

The video runs through a set of powerpoint slides that I made, to pitch my free audio lesson for parenting. The whole pitch is 5 minutes long and I give SEVERAL spots in the audio commentary where I say "just go ahead and fill out the form right now". So I'm confident most people do not listen for the full 5 minutes.

Right before then end I go over the objections that might come up. 1) Email privacy; 2) Me sending them crap. I just tell people that I won't share their info and I tell them that there is an unsubscribe link in every email. I want them to know I genuinely will not spam them, etc.

At the end I give several testimonials from people who have emailed to me saying how great my free lesson was.

I put a BIG RED ARROW in the slides to point to where the opt-in box goes.

My opt-in rate is now 25% and I'm thrilled. I can probably make it go higher in time with new tweaks. But for now a huge return on my investment (of time)

Other details:

- I first wrote my script using notepad. I polished the script after a few edits.

- I recorded the script with Audacity (free) and addes some background music in Adobe Audition (not free, but can be done with any other free software also). I output to MP3 format.

- I next made the powerpoint slides to match up with the script, and then I went in and defined all of the slide transition points in the script.

- I animated all of the slides to that headlines and bullet points would come in at approximately the right time to match the audio. I simply had the MP3 play while I did animation previews on the slides to verify timing.

- I did a screen recording of the slideshow with Camtasia Studio and simply played the MP3 in the background and pressed "return" to change slides at the right marker points in my script. This made the screen recording very easy. I only needed to change slides and the slide animation took care of the rest.

- MAKE SURE to set your screen resolution to 1024x768 or 800x600 before screen recording so that it will fit naturally into an output of 480x360 or 400x300 if you choose. Aspects ratio must match. I have a widescreen monitor and I had to change resolutions. If you are not on a widescreen monitor you're probably OK.

- I drop the screen recording into camtasia, along with the MP3 and output in FLV format with 480x360 as my size.

- Install the Flash Video Player plugin for Wordpress and drop it into the new squeeze page.

That's it. All done. Total time invested (honestly) was about 8 hours because I had never put video on a website before.

Key points:

This did not cost me a penny.
This has **doubled** the growth rate of my list.

Ok I'm ready to share the address now that I'm done gathering statistics. If anyone wants to provide feedback I'm happy to listen. This was my first video squeeze page.

        Well done!

Your video is low key and good at gaining trust with people.

I assume you aren't using PPC I don't think google would there there is enough on the page to like it.

I ought to give this a try with some of my sites. I would create the script and record it but will probably outsource the powerpoint and video so I don't have to deal with it.

Anyone know someone I could outsource it to?

That was teriffic. I am a high school administrator and my main job is student discipline and teaching parents how best to deal with their teenagers. I have started writing my own e-book on the topic and I began with the beginning years. I am going to sign up as an affiliate.

Thanks for the WP plugin - I didn't know it existed.

I always try to make my PPt look good - and fail. It seems graphics is not my forte.

I'll borrow your simple two color text with white background PPt, out in a theme with white background. Simple yet effective.

I've purchased Viral Video Monster. It's a software where you can use email capture and other cool stuff INSIDE your video. I have problems with installation and customer service hasn't come back to me so I surely don't endorse it yet! But if it works, anyone who uses video squeeze page has to try it IMO.

ronr - all the traffic is coming in from Google PPC right now. That's how I'm building my list aside from the main sales page lightbox popup.

I think Google wants some content on the page, but they can probably tell that I'm using video and realize that this trend is increasing.

Also - Google wants you to point to other parts of your page. You can see in my footer I'm linking to the essentials. Privacy policy, contact, FAQ and also my blog. So Google knows that I have real content on my site (just not so much on the landing page).

I am using exact match keywords and I'm getting over 2% CTR up to about 8% on some words.

Thanks Chris. I didn't think there was enough content for adwords, but as you said the video along with the few other links must be enough. I'll need to split test this against my current squeeze page.

Chris i like the landing page, 2 things... that i know
will increase the opt in of your page.

Change the Border Color from green to Darker
      blue.

2nd-Put your video on Auto place when the site
opens with a 3-5 second delay in the beginning.

It will increase opt ins some more, or don't just
take my word for it, TEST IT. The site looks
      great.

Quick reply: I made a custom page template to get the squeeze page to show up with no sidebar. It's actually pretty easy to do. I also made a custom header.php file to not bring up the top navigation menu.

Chris, thanks for sharing your tactic for increasing the squeeze page conversion.

You mentioned that you have testimonials from some people who had emailed you saying how great the free lesson was. Perhaps you may want to try putting these testimonials next to your subscription form and see if that will help boost the conversion even further?

Great info Chris I have been experimenting with using video and was getting very frustrated with Windows Movie Maker - so will trash that and follow your instructions as it sounds much easier to do!

I think it is very smart to have a video telling people to just subscribe. Question, can they see your face in the video or is it just your voice? I think it is more powerful when you personally are selling your point.

Video and Audio are incredibly powerful, people feel like they really know you, and once they feel like they trust you (and they should be able to) they are a lot more willing to divulge their email. Thanks for sharing the results.
