What would be a good first income goal for a newbie?

Let's say I want to eventually make $1000 a day, but have never made any money online.

What would be a good income goal to start with. Something big enough to get motivated but at the same time something that's not too difficult or unrealistic.

Find your passion and you will never need any stupid money goal. If you are driven by money, then you will easily give it up.

  • $10, $20, $50, $100 or even a $1000 per day will be a great starting point, but having a workable strategy to achieve that goal and scale it up when you start making money online should be your main focus.

    Hi B,

None LOL...focus on being free, not numbers.

Then, focus on freeing your audience, not numbers.

Numbers can't buy from you; they're inanimate objects. People do buy from you.

So....focus on freeing you and on freeing other people, to remain inspired, to create like a dynamo and to form bonds with niche leaders. Keep on that intent.

Money goals are OK but lack the power and punch to drive you to do something epic.

I just swam for 1 hour at one of the world's most stunning beaches. Pandawa Beach, in Bali. Google it. Amazingly pristine environment.

I haven't set 1 income goal in my life.

I just set freeing intents, and have created a really neat, freeing, inspired life that resonates with anybody who wants to blog from paradise.

Less numbers, more feeling. At least it's worked for me and my readers

    Onward and upward!

    Tweeting from Bali.

Whatever motivates you to take action. Some set crazy goals like $1000 a day but never reach it because it seems too far away.

I'm not saying it's out of reach for you, but if it doesn't truly motivate you, then why have it as a goal?

$100 a day is just under the mean full time salary in the US, so that tends to motivate people to replace their day job income, which then enables them to completely work from home without the need for an actual job.

But you see, that is the motivation. $100 a day is what lets them quit their job; it's their motivation. That may not be what motivates you, so figure out whatever amount feels right to you and go for it.

Some like to base their income goals around their created product, let's say $27 per sale, so they want 2 sales a day for roughly $1500 a month. So that's their motivation; they want to make 2 sales a day or $1500. Again, here it's about the amount or number of sales that feels good enough to compel action.

Strive for an amount that doesn't feel out of reach, but that you can feel genuinely motivated to pursue.

That first dollar is pretty special my friend.

I'd start with that, and i'm not being flippant.

It's your first indication of being on the right path, and then you can get an appreciation of how you're progressing as the dollars come in after that, and the rate they come in.

        All the best,

If you've never made money online before than $1/day is a great goal to start with. That's $30/month and many people who've never made money online before cannot even make a single dollar, let alone $30 in a month.

But I quoted the above because I agree that you need to find out what your "WHY" is. Why do you want to make money online? Is it to quit your job? Then how much will you need to do that? That will become your goal as you figure out your "why".

Someone else said, "Don't even worry about money" but I have to partially disagree there because we all have to think about it to survive. However; I think he was only morally speaking, in which case I agree. The money isn't the real issue. Its WHY you want to make more money to begin with, that's the real issue. Then your goals will become much more clear to you. Thats my 2 cents anyway.

Don't even think about money. Think about helping people in some way. Money is really beside the point so set up goals regarding how you want to improve your business or how many people you want to help.

If you want to stay motivated by money you'll easily fall off track and burn out.

Make your first sale and be able to make that happen again and again.
That's what they call experience and/or expertise.

Then rinse and repeat in other market.

It's just simple but complex to implement and would take time for you to master the art.
Remember, you are the CEO of your company and the decisions you take can make or mar your business.

Instead on focusing on money focus on providing meaningful, useful content/products and the money will come.

I don't think many successful IMers would tell a newbie to set a "money for me" daily income goal to begin with....unless they are selling make-money-fast products themselves.

Focus on what you need to learn and do - what people are worth following/learning from - the technical aspects of building an online business - identifying and targeting a market - evaluating competition - and on and on and on.

If you put your business together right from the getgo - the money will come. If you only worry about "what I can earn", you will be struggling for a long time.

Make your goal be that you can make enough to be an IMer fulltime and for years on end. Look, $1,000 day is sweet, and there are some people that blow that number out of the water.

    Some.

Goals are good, and with things like IM, things can happen to where you go from zero to hero, virtually overnight with no real skills. But, that is RARE. For every success story, there are countless failures. And there are plenty of stories of people going from zero to hero, and then back to zero due to a TOS change somewhere, etc.

Goals are good. And there are no shortage of 'Positive Nancys' telling you they did it ($1000/day), you can do it, etc.

But be realistic. MOST people who attempt IM are NOT going to be making $350,000/year. PERIOD. If it were that easy, there would be NO room for you to enter the Game, today, for all of the seats would have long ago been taken.

A good first income goal? How about you start with replacing your current income, which is no doubt waaaaay below a grand/day. And to make that income stream a sustainable and growable business model that will survive things like ToS changes, loophole closures, etc.

Tell me, would you really be disappointed to only make $500/day? I mean we are talking $150,000/year, which is WAAAAAAY above the average income.

What about $250/day, where poor you has to struggle to survive in your pajamas to make $75,000/year - which is still DOUBLE the average income in the US.

Don't confuse dreams with goals. I have a dream of building up a 7 digit/year income and maintaining it for 3-5 years and then never working again after that, but I will not have failed if poor 'ol me can only mange $50,000-$75,000/year for the next 10-15 years.

Good income goal? A realistic one. And hitting $1000/day, every day for years on end, is NOT a realistic goal. It is a dream (yes, it will be achievable for a minority of IMers). Why do so many people think IM is a way to become a millionaire more than IM being a way to become self-employed/business owner?

Oh yea. It is because of all of the cheesy and 'fake it till ya make it' IMers in the MMO niche, preying upon people's emotions in order to remove money from their wallet.

Please don't take that as any kind of insult. Separate dreams from goals and understand, that in the real world, MOST people would be doing cartwheels in celebration of bringing home $150 per day, everyday, in their own business.

$1,000/day is a dream. Yes, an achievable dream, but NOT achievable by the vast majority of IMers. Aim to develop a sustainable and growable business that replaces your other income.

I'de have to agree that you shouldn't start out thinking about getting a $1000 day when you have zero traffic coming to your site. You would be better off to figure out how to get a 1000 people a day to see your site and then the money should come in from there. Simply use adsense, amazon, etc

You need to find your passion and interest in kind of work which you like. This is min thing to start with on internet. After that you need to study the market condition and about competitors, what they are doing and how you can compete them with different and even better way. Gaining this knowledge one has to prepare a marketing plan and route map to follow which can take you to success ladder.

Well if you have not made any money whatsoever then just look to make that first dollar.

One of the most satisfying moments in my career is when I made my first Adsense Click at $1.25 7 years ago.

The amount was not the exhilarating thing. It was the fact that this stuff was real and that money could be actually made online

Your very 1st $ will be your most memorable & life changing. It gives you the belief that money can be made online. I made mine with free traffic so it was 100% profit

Having said that, focus on helping people & giving value then the money will come. Another top tip is to find a success mentor/coach to save weeks/months/years on your learning curve.

Go for it & make it happen
