Newbies... Where are you folks stuck?

I keep getting emails almost daily especially from newbies to IM saying they are "stuck" and suffering information overload and need my help whenever I do a video series.

It's getting difficult to respond because I don't know where they are stuck. I really want to help out folks but if I don't know which point they are stuck: getting traffic, improving conversions or just the specifics such as uploading files to a FTP, it would be of great help for me as well.

If you are a newbie where you are usually stuck? What are the most critical areas you have trouble with? This would greatly help me in answering the folks who email me with a "do this - click that" format.

Thanks!

  • Since I virtually have no experience with IM, I am stuck everywhere . I don't want to put the cart before the horse and am hesitant to take the "first step". If I keep reading the threads on the forum and learn about IM (which I am doing), will it ever be clear to me which path to take? Should I start a blog to hopefully start building a list and then a website a few weeks later to link to my blog? Is it best to have a clickbank product site in conjunction with my blog? etc......

So far, I have only spent $20 in May on a WSO that has helped me understand some aspects of IM. I know where my interests lie and am currently researching ways to see if my niche(s) are good ones. Again, I keep having to look up info on the forums to find out how to do this. Once I have my niche, then I need to go to the next step.

I am determined and driven. I believe I can do this no matter how long it takes. Just sort of the kind of person that likes to follow steps-and I am unsure of those steps. I've written down so much these last few weeks and I honestly keep coming to the conclusion that I must make a start in some area. If you want to fly, you have to spread your wings.

    • Hi Cassie,

This is precisely the sort of questions I get.

The best advice I can give you is the secret some of my successful friends (including yours truly) uses and that is to find a pressing need and give it to the market at a reasonable price.

For example, social media is hot right now and if you have noticed, a lot of businesses are looking "how to market their products there" and that's the reason why a product like Twitter Traffic Machine has done so well - it fulfills a pressing need in a hot market.

The same thing with teeth whiteners - I have been doing some affiliate marketing with this and it is one of the hottest markets right now. There are many more, but generally niche selection encompasses that.

My best strategy these days for niche selection is to join all popular affiliate networks such as Copeac etc. where they send a "weekly top converting products" email every week and it helps me immensely, they are basically giving away hottest niches right now.

      Hope that helps.

      Yup.

I think you are onto something here.

    • It's important to research a niche market, most important of all, it must be
a hungry niche, people who are thinking of their problems day and night...

they are desperate, they can't stop thinking about it even though
they are going to sleep... or they have Insomnia...

once you identify the niche market, just write a couple of articles
and send it to a landing page, talking more about their problems and
      give some free tips.

Once you get your first sale, you know this niche is really working and
then you put a list to make more sales!
      • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • I guess many newbies are attracted to the possibilities of IM, without much knowledge, or awareness, of how best to utilise the internet. They don't know what they don't know yet.

  • Hi Pual,

Thanks for starting such a relevant thread for us n00bs. The big problem ive found is every thread talks like you already know your stuff eg use of acronyms, talking about concepts without explaining them etc.

Here are some points that i think would make an excellent sticky introduction thread for n00bs.

    1. What are the different area's of internet marketing eg blogging, PPC etc. Pros, Cons, areas to avoid, and Hot areas ofcourse

-this will provide a way of deciding on what to learn first and start searching

    2. Link to a recommended ebook for each area of the above internet marketing area's. There are just too many to know which is good or rubbish or too advanced. (preferably free but if its really gold then education is worth investing in).

    3. A good "how to build an optimized website" would be the next vital skill i guess, so a link for that would be choice.

Its hard to really say apart from that, but i think it would definitely keep us busy

Im not trying to be lazy by not searching by the way, its just having someone more experinced help fliter what is really relevent initially would be choice

    Cheers,

    Kevin

  • Questions #1 Is there a limit on how many treads I can post in a day?

Question #2 Can a person have more then one accounts with Warriorforum and if so, Is there a limit to how many accounts one person can have?

Questions #3 Which message box has the 5 line limit rule?

Questions #4 Is there a place I can go to that has most of my questions here answered already, because I've been looking and looking. (I did watch the training videos already)

Questions #5 I've already asked a couple of these questions on the forum and as of yet have not gotten any replies. Does it usually take a few days to get replies sometimes or is it reather quickly most of the time.

Questions #6 I noticed how some have pink folders and some have pink folders with fire in them and some are yellow folders. What do all these colors mean?

Questons #7 If (done by ignorence) Is it against the rules to ask a wrong type of question in the wrong forum. If so what are the pentalties?

These are some of the questions I'm stuck on.

Thanks for your tread so I can ask these questions

  • Well, I find what I get stuck on is how to do the research to find what's hot in IM. When you're a big shot in IM, you know what's hot and what to avoid. But for the noobs starting out, how do we initiate this search so that we can invest our time wisely? Thanks!
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • I bought micro niche finder, and it helps me a lot. It's a keyword research tool with some other really good info on each of the keywords you're looking for.

  • I am stuck on the "list" thing. Everyone says "build a list." Okay. Then what? I could send out a report to the list, but then what? There needs to be some idea of what continues after that first report is sent. I know I sign up for lists to get a report and then all I get for the next month are either sales emails touting the next big launch or something with a tiny bit of content in it followed by yet another sales pitch. I do get some e-courses that actually have some content and are useful, but those are few and far between. So if I build a list what do I send them?

    • What I get asked the most from my subscribers and members is also around how to find a hot niche - but really what it comes down to is understanding the different business models and ways to make money online such as information publishing, selling someone else's products (affiliate marketing), advertising revenue, coaching, seminars, etc...

What is a good niche for your own information product may not be best for creating a content site designed to rake in advertising income.

So first, it is a matter of understanding what business they want to be in - what skillset and interests they have - what they are best at doing so they can operate in the type of business that suits their skillset.

Then we can choose a hot niche once we have an idea what the monetization method is that suits that particular method.

Thisl, I find, is a significant missing piece of the "getting started online" puzzle.

    • List building is the most important thing for money making online.

1)Go to aweber.com and purchase their autoresponder.
2)Set an opt-in page on your Website/Blog giving free gift relating to your niche.
3)Write some articles and submit them to Ezinearticles with the website link i resource box.
4)Post to yahoo answers stating website in the resource box.
5)Post in relevant Google,Yahoo and Msn groups informing about the free gift.
6)Submit your gift to JV giveaways to get more subscribers.
7)Use ppc marketing if you can afford it.
8)Go to twitter.com, search your niche and reply to people who are discussing about your niche about free gift.
9)Keep on giving gifts for the next 7 days to your subscribers using Aweber automation.
10)Start selling to them from 8'th day onwards.

      Good luck.

    • Hi Christina,

I was in this exact position not too long ago. I would build a list-- build a relationship with the last (I would spend 4 hours crafting a newsletter) and when it came to pitching a product, I usually didn't get the sales I was expecting.

What ticked me off was the big marketers at the time all said "send free content and only then pitch" but when it came to them, they all pitch every single email.

I had to learn through trial and error. This is what I learned from my experience: The fastest way to make money off a list is to send them a promotion immediately after signing up - within the first 2 days.

*Here is the key though: the product you pitch should be highly relevant and targeted. For instance, if you have a pre-launch list collected for Product X on social media marketing and don't pitch that product to the "free list" then you are missing out. I made this mistake where I would build a pre-launch list before through PPC etc. and send them content but by the time I could even pitch my product, more people had already unsubscribed or forgotten who I was.

I'm not advocating not to send free content. What I'm saying is to sell the prospects the product they are looking to buy - if they signed up on your list, they are likely to buy your product, not someone else's and they will buy the product they came to buy in the first place (every one is looking to buy something, the free report opt-in is just a soft-sell).

Plus, people are more receptive when their interest levels are high - if I'm looking to get discounts on flight tickets, I'll only be interested as long as I board the flight, after I do that, I'll not be looking for discounts again -- no matter how much "free" information you send me. Most niches operate this way.

Funny thing is I get emails every day from people saying "Paul, I want only your products, please stop sending me emails promoting other products."

I take it as a compliment these days.

      Hope that helps,

      - Paul Ponna

    You are helping many.

Organic traffic to websites is the thing that I need the most

This is probably one of the top concerns of quite a few of others as well

    • I'm currently only concentrating on blogs to get free traffic. I know there is a whole world to SEO but I've slowly realized over the years that relying on Google to get an income is unhealthy for my business. Organic traffic requires constant fresh content and backlinks to rank high. But I've started to notice too quick backlinks is also not a good idea.

I know there are many SEO experts out there StomperNET, SEOMoz etc. I'm sure they will be of greater help in this matter.

If I have a niche i think will be profitable

Have done my research to find problems within that niche

How do I find the words and phrases my potential customers are using when searching for a solution using micro niche finder?

  • The biggest issue for me continues to be traffic generation. Perhaps I'm a little impatient with EZA approving my articles. But they've been stuck in that first little box for about a week now.

I'm wondering if I shouldn't learn a little more about SEO and get that side of the house in order too...

    • You can't completely depend on Ezinearticles.com alone. Try other traffic generation methods also.
    • There are so many ways of traffic generation, but I suggest you to go for Yahoo answers and Article marketing first for getting daily targeted traffic.

  • Organic traffic and backlinks that don't get me Google slapped.

  • A lot of them sign up saying things like "I can't work for someone else, I won't work for someone else, I must have my own business."
Then they ask you what to do.

Be a Leader who guides rather than a boss who orders. Teach them how to Duplicate YOUR successes.

We all like getting the notifications that we have made a sale or recruited a new affiliate. It's encouraging. Newbies want to do that.

    Remember your first sale?
    Remember how that felt?
    Remember that first commission cheque?

Guide them to the same place.

    1. Keyword research

    2. Traffic Generation

I believe if I master those two things I could make it in internet marketing. I am a writer myself so it helps for the product creation and article marketing. But I would like to learn even more about keyword research and learn other ways to generate traffics.

    Thanks Paul for asking!

    • For me, I think it's getting the "big picture" & settling on one approach... as Jeff mentioned above, there's so many -- "different business models and ways to make money online such as information publishing, selling someone else's products (affiliate marketing), advertising revenue, coaching, seminars, etc... " it can hard to decide to settle on any one thing when you can find such a wealth of information on them all!

I remember a post in Chris Remple's blog that really rang true with me, it might be interesting to some folk here - Rant: A Simple Formula for Nearly-Instant Results That Doesn’t Cost $60,000…

So what I'd like to have seen is a brief description of all the various approaches, with a simple explanation of what's typically involved with each.

  • Hello,

I have spent some time researching IM and what it means and takes to get involved. One of the things that seem to be holding me back is figuring out a "system" or "websites" and/or "tool" that could help me to locate a niche that I would do well with. This would be my first niche, so I am looking for something that I will not get board with before I start making money, but I am having a brain block on ideas. Anyone have this now or when they first started? What did you do about it?

Thank in advance for any and all advice!

  • Paul,

Don't you think some of the Copeac offers are iffy at best?

They seem to have a lot of hot offers however, many seem to include trials which tend to result in bogus credit card charges to the consumer.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
    • [1] reply
    • By Copeac offers, I didn't mean I'm promoting their products (I personally don't endorse hidden forced continuity which most CPA offers these days do). Especially the ones such as Google Money Tree etc. My own folks got scammed by these types of offers offline a few years ago, on a personal level, I agree with what you are saying.

What I meant by that is the CPA networks give their highest converting products out every week which is a goldmine for niche research and find what niche is hot right now and what products affiliates are going crazy to promote.

This is great if you are an affiliate and even a product creator. You don't have to re-invent the wheel - just make the wheel better and at a relatively competitive price.

      Hope that helps,

      Paul

  • Hi Paul Ponna,

Thanks for setting this thread up for us newbies. Well, I am not going to say that I am a 100% newbie, I would call myself a semi-newbie. Reason why I said like that ? I've just put everything that I learned into action, and then I made my first sale in ClickBank.

which I've set up to show and inspire some other newbies (maybe you can get an idea of what kind of problem does a "semi-newbie" usually confronted with too).

Or if you want to get into a niche forum for newbies, and take a look what kind of questions they are asking about, I know that there is a place, where it's being offered as a at this moment, by a WF member too. Click here to check out the free wso.

I get tons of newbies questions and before I realize, I had already helped out some of the "newer newbies" by answering some of their questions. By doing so, I gained experience faster than I usually do.

It's really about putting what we've learned into action. That's my personal opinion though.

Again, thanks Paul Ponna for addressing this matter. It helps a lot by reading through your post in here.

** Hmm.. Maybe I should even set the free wso link into my signature. Am I allowed to put other people's WSO link into my signature ? Just wondering..

  • I wish there was a process flow map of the different directions to take that will get you to the same goal. Sort of like the game of life board.

I was first VERY confused at which path fit my lifestyle/values/knowledge/goals.

Not so much now. I know the path and know what information I need to know to walk that path. The path was not clear in the beginning.

  • I'd like to know how to drive traffic to my blogs. I have 3 internet marketing blogs, each with a little different spin. I have some articles in all of them and some articles in one of them. I would like to know the best way to create traffic. Is this a good thing to have 3 blogs like this or not?
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
    • [2] replies
    • You can register with forum digitalpoint and use blog's link in signature.

3 blogs are unnecessary , 1 blog is sufficient.

    • The easiest and most effective way to drive traffic to blogs right now is through video -- specifically through YouTube.

Find a way to connect Youtube following to Blog following and you will get tons of targeted traffic. Articles aren't working as well as videos these days when it comes to blogging.

Twitter, Facebook etc. come only second to Youtube when it comes to blog traffic.

  • One thing I have noticed is here is allot of people want to make income but they don't know their WHY? If you know your why you'll get a better Idea of what and then begin to ask the powerful questions of how. The biggest theme here is every question is too general. without the why factor answer you'll give up before you start and you'll ask the wrong questions.
Example how do I drive traffic...begs the question for what audience? What action do you want to be taken? If you had an extra 250.00 or 500.00 today and an assistant what would you have them doing?
