Making an Ebook look like a ebook

Hello everyone,
I'm having trouble figuring out how to make all my content look like a ebook.
I'm using Openoffice.org and I've written tons of content but as far as making this look like a book with header and footer and table of contents and page numbers and maybe pictures here and there I'm lost.

I have saved this project as a PDF but now need help finding the info needed to cross the finish line with this book.
I do have Office 2007 as well if you think I should use it.

Thanks Warrior's for any info you might have for me!

    Use Office 2007.

Paste your content into a new word doc then click on the insert tab at the top. Pick your header, footer, pagination etc...

Move everything down so you have two blank pages at the top, then use one for your ebook cover (by inserting the image) and the other for table of contents.

When your done, just render everything down as a new PDF. Inserting images overall can be accomplished by simply clicking where you want the image to be, then selecting insert>image.

    Hope this helps.

That does help but I have another question.

Do you know of a good ebook cover generator that is free or very cheap!

      Thanks!

If you still need software for this, I think I have something laying around that can help.

What is it that OpenOffice cannot do compared to Office 2007?
Just read the user guide to learn how to make headers, footers, insert images etc.

There was an ebook template for OpenOffice given away here at one time by a fellow Warrior. I've used it dozens of times myself.

Here's a link to the thread and the link to the template is still active.

In regard to said above about using office if Openoffice can do everything that office can. I think they are both very similar but I started with Open office as it was free and my Office 2007 came with this computer when I bought it new and I can only use it a few times before it shuts down so I didn't really get to know that program.

I've tried using the help section within Openoffice but all I end up with is a big mess that sometimes I'm afraid that I will not be able to undo.

That link for the template is still active as I just downloaded the zip file but have not looked at it yet.

I'm looking for a way to make this easier as I've tried several different things and now its looking really bad with stupid looking page numbers and spaces that I can't remove and my table of contents is out of order now, its things of that nature that are kicking my butt. I'm getting frustrated with my abilities.

Thanks everyone for any and all info I can get!

As with any program/software there is no "easier" way until you learn how to use it properly.

Here is the 508 pages User Manual for the whole OO:

        Hi Michael

Please correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the Warrior Dojo a paid site and if so how can this help him/her as he/she asked for a free software which would mean no dollars or lack of.....

        Cheers

Actually I'm a member at the Dojo site. Michael gets very busy and all the Warrior's are so nice I thought I would ask here too.

          Thanks,

A quick Google search for ebook templates brings up several free templates along with some premium ones.

I own the package found here -- OpenOffice Ebook Templates - Create Stunning Professional Works of Art! -- and they are quite good. They were created by a fellow warrior. (Not me, by the way.)

Since you mentioned office 07, here is a free pdf converter for ms word, from MS.
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

It is a small download and a quick install, you don't even need a restart. On one thread where I posted this link someone who had been trying for awhile to convert to pdf with the big bucks version of Adobe, tried this and it worked. I am not at all trying to knock OO, but I'd expect this would work better. It takes 2 seconds and you wind up with the original docx and the pdf.

Email me the .doc file and I'll make it look like a ready-to-be-sold-at-Amazon ebook.

      Thank you all very much!
