Ezine Article Views

by Barb Thornback 10 replies
Hello all,

Can someone please tell me how an article
can be viewed over 45,000 times since the end of
April 09, when none of the keywords in the article
are ranked in the top 10?

Thankyou

That is quite a number of views for that amount of time. Did you check any other articles in your category to see if they have views in the same range? Perhaps somehow that number was in error by whatever method they used to track.. Check your article daily to see haw much that view total goes up...

one trick is to resubmit the articles, so the author probably have that same article for a while. another factor might be that he had links to the articles from other sites that has high traffic which in turn could increase the views for the article. anyway ezine articles rank highly for a month and then slowly fades away if it is not optimized.

45000 views = 9000 unique visits. Did it convert well? 9000 visits for a single article is great but it's definitely an error if you've not earned much from it.

It's called cheating the system There is quite a bit of it going on too.
The benefits are obviously you get in the "most viewed for 90 days" list pretty quick. The downside is that if you get caught, and people are getting caught quite a bit since Chris Knight found out about this, your account gets deleted and you have to start over.

There was a thread here a month or so ago from one warrior who was a little pissed off at this exact same thing which I'm pretty sure alerted Chris to this since he responded in that thread.

and just for the record, no that is not my article.

It sounds a bit blackhat to me. I am sure you could just pay per view to increase the views and also pay per click from the resource box. But how would Ezine clock onto that?

I mean the above example looks dodgy considering the keyword phrase wasn't that popular.

    Barb,

More than likely it's a case of someone sending fake or untargeted traffic to their article in order to get listed on EZA's "Most Viewed" section.

Chris Knight spoke about it here: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ors-ezine.html

    Not necessarily cheating the system.
People send traffic to their articles via PPC, social networking etc etc
Just because something is successful and you can't see an obvious reason why, it doesn't mean its "cheating".

Some people use their EZA articles as a landing page and send traffic to that instead of their own site. Hence their high number of views.

I have some articles that received 20k views in 2 months not because they ranked high in search engines, but because I chose to drive traffic to it by other means.

Oh, there is an obvious reason for it and it's called buying traffic I'm not saying everyone that has a good amount of views like that is doing so, but lets be realistic. Particularly when it isn't ranking anywhere as stated by the OP.

I don't think there are any marketers driving that many views with PPC to their articles nor are they using them for a landing page. You may get a few that do this but I would be suprised if it's that many at all.

Most people who are doing PPC are NOT going to waste click money just so they can take a chance on losing money to the adsense farm that Ezine is. Nor are they going to drive all their traffic to an article if they have the ability to drive that kind of traffic to anything. If you can drive that kind of traffic, why would you take a chance on losing money by them clicking on a article that has 4 adsense blocks on it?

If you can drive that kind of traffic, why not put the article on Allen Graves' article directory where there is no adsense and rake it in or build a HUGE list.

There was a wso not to long ago that taught people how to do this but Ezine has since caught on.....but there are always ways around it if you know how I know exactly how it's done but it's not worth risking my account and all the articles I have in it to do it.

And for the record, I never said I had a problem with it(the smiley face next to my first post about it). I don't do it, but I don't see it as being a problem either. It's just smart marketing. Driving 40,000 views with PPC money or 40,000 views to an article covered in adsense thats not mine? haha not likely.

Of course there are other ways as well to get views like that don't include buying traffic, won't cost you money, and won't get your account deleted......but I'll keep those to myself
