Thanks!

Stop something hurting i.e. I need a solution to a problem or to enjoy something nice. We all make decisions based around moving away from pain and towards pleasure. Some are more motivated by moving towards, some more from moving away.

Then its a question of deciding whether the proposition is genuine i.e. will it meet our desire and I guess much of that is down to trust/ social proof.

Is there a thought process? Most buying is emotional.

Exactly so - which is why it's next to useless asking people what makes them purchase. It's the job of marketers to orchestrate that thought process in the minds of their prospects.

For me, it's convenience and variety. There's a lot more choices online, and I don't have to waste time driving to some offline store which may or may not have what I'm looking for.

I take credibility more into account, though, when I'm shopping online.

At this time and point it's mostly about if I know / like the person who created it...

From there, it's an easy choice to help support the vendor.

There is no "Thought Process" If I need it I buy it, If I do not need it, then, I do not buy it

Writing copy that sells to the right person. Dan Kennedy puts it this way: message to market. DK is one of the best copywriters in the world but if his copy is selling something I don't feel I need - all of his best words will not convince me to buy. If his words even touch on a pain I have and his solutions seems viable I wouldn't be able to whip out my credit card fast enough. NOTE: I'm just using DK as my example - this goes for any and all copywriters both well known and not so much...

The reason people buy stuff is mainly because they need it. So, if you're looking to sell something, make sure people need it! Find your buyers, find out what they need and sell it to them. I know this all sounds very vague but it's what needs to be done.

      • The prices online are far more competitive than in my local shops (sometimes up to 50% cheaper)
      • I don't want to bother with parking and wandering around the shops if I only need one or two things so buying online is more convenient and saves time
      • Far more choice available online - I have access to items that I would never be able to source locally

What makes me buy online is the same thing that makes me buy off line.

If I need gas for my car, I pull into the gas station and buy it.

Online, if I see something I need, it solves my problem, I buy it.

    No rocket science required.

Hmmm what makes me buy online?

It is usually a mixture of things but one of the main
reasons is getting me to be able to accomplish
    something I couldn't have

    Before the product.

Or something that really peaks my curiousity

I think seeing a real good sales page that provides me with all the right and necessary information that I require to make an effective purchase.

One of my continual purchases online is books. For that, I read A LOT of reviews from others.

So that is extremely important to me

I almost NEVER buy by the accident on the Web or buy impulsively.

It is to seek out something that I have a problem with and I need to find a solution.

    Pretty methodical for me.

I buy a lot of stuff from Amazon and do so because:

    1. Convenience (Don't have to go to the store and deal with lines)
    2. Customer Service (Amazon offers customer service that is second to none)
    3. Fast Shipping (2 day prime shipping).
    4. Reviews (Always read the reviews before buying)

Amazon's customer service is so good that I will usually pay more to buy from Amazon knowing that if I have any problems with the purchase later, they will take care of it.

I usually buy if either of these three things out of four are solved; Innovation, Automation, and Feasibility.

Fourth one is budget. If within budget now, I make a quick decision to buy. If not, then I make a note of it for buying in near future provided the first three aspects are still fulfilled at that point of time.

I make every effort to buy as much as I can in my local community. I made most of my money servicing them, so I feel I should do likewise, even if I have to spend a bit more. Most tend to give me a discount which usually negates any online savings.

With that being said, I want real Hawaiian Kona coffee in the morning, so I order it from a Kona farmer in Hawaii. There are some things that you just can't get, locally.

Buying? I'm Dutch, I take everything for free... haha

True that ^^ , but if I can't get it for free, I buy, but it really depends on the quality and value the product gives me. For example; if I want to buy headphones, I search on google for "the top 10 headphones 2015". And I always have a budget in mind, for headphones, I don't spend more then €150,- .
For headphones and other products you can hold i keep 3 important things in mind:
    - Quality
    - Price
    - Design

For digital products? well, I only buy them if they represent real value, price doesn't matter, It just has to have the "wow" effect and it has to be mindblowing.
