How Can I Monetize Public Speaking?

Hello fellow warriors,

Without trying to sound like I am blowing my own trumpet (which I know it will sound like in order to ask my question), I am an excellent public speaker. It is by far my best skill. When it comes to internet marketing I can do many things average or below average but when it comes to public speaking it is something I can do extremely well. I spoken in front of large crowds (thousands of people in the audience) and acted on stage and in films.

I been trying so many thing with internet marketing over the years and nothing stuck. I wrote about this in previous threads in the past. But public speaking is that one skill I have that could stick if only I knew what to do with it.

From an internet marketing standpoint how can I monetize this skill? I am guessing the natural route to take is something involving video. How do you suggest I could monetize on that?

I appreciate your suggestions.

Thanks.

Mark

Hi Mark, you will still need to learn how to promote yourself and become a good marketer. There are people who have written awesome books that are entertaining, solve problems and give tremendous value but they don't know how to market themselves.

It doesn't matter if you are selling a product, a system or a service such as public speaking.

You need to find out who your target market really is (who would pay to see you and benefit from your speaking?)

Then figure out how to put your self 'in front' of that said market.

  • Creating your own product like writing your own ebook about public speaking can work

You may also do and offer online classes in public speaking or become a consultant/coach for those who are looking for a one-on-one training with public speaking.

And yes I agree that you need to learn the basics of online marketing to be able to promote your own product or service out there.

Most internet marketers start off promoting affiliate products online. They then make a few sales and create their own products teaching people how to make sales/money online.

They then discover that in order to transform their business from high five to low six figure income to a high six to seven income business would be to host their own high ticket/price point live speaking event/seminar/workshop etc and now they have to learn how to sell from the stage.

You seem to have the skill to speak in front of thousands of people, but you should develop your skills to sell from the stage to thousands of people.

My suggestion to you would be to create your own online coaching program teaching people how to speak from the stage. I know it was a daunting task for me at first, but thankfully after overcoming my stage fright I am comfortably able to speak to a live audience of a thousand plus people on any given Sunday.

You will have experience in the topic you are coaching and you can package it in online workbooks and videos and host it on your website for sale.

You can also try contacting your local television station and try to create a show where you offer free lessons on the show to build your credibility in your niche and then tell the audience to go to your website to receive your detailed coaching program

Completely. One word to monetize public speaking. "Webinars" if you have a talent for it get it going.. Good luck.

You could join a toastmasters group in your area if they have one. Get around people who enjoy speaking like you do or want to get better at speaking. I'm sure they know of events you can speak at.

You can go around to different schools, churches, or organizations and see if you can speak on a certain topic. Schools would probably be best starting out.

    You could do Youtube videos.

You could create your own products or buy affiliate products and do video reviews on the pros and cons of the product.

Public speaking is a good tool to have in the arsenal. If you are comfortable with speaking to crowds big or small figure out how to do it as often as possible.

    The money will come.

      Mark,

Have you done any market research?

The whole idea is to find out what prospects interested in your market (public speaking) are searching for. When you understand what (exactly) the prospects in the niche want . . . then you will have a clue as to what you might sell profitably.

Market research will also help you to identify where your prospects can be found. When you know this, then your marketing becomes way, way easier because you won't have to guess how to segment and focus in on just those prospects that are looking for exactly what you're offering.

Of course you know all this because you've "been trying so many things with internet marketing over the years."

      The best to you,

      Steve

Either create a product that is about public speaking or create videos! It's not the same as public speaking per se, but you would be literally speaking to a public, even if they're not right in front of you.

I'm assuming you would more or less be teaching people how to public speak? I don't see why not, this is a common fear and difficulty that many people have and it's a skill that many people need for work, school, family, etc.

If you're as good as you say, you can effortlessly know what to say and do to persuade others to hire you.

You create videos, or speak and transcribe your content to create blog posts.

The problem is you're focused on your speaking skills - nothing struck because you don't understand business, and how to set up an ecosystem where you can sell your talents for profit.

If you're actually very good at public speaking, are you getting paid to do speaking gigs?

Go to YouTube and search on Victor Antonio. Yes, he's a friend of mine but he has a unique strategy. He didn't build a list at all. He just recorded videos nearly every day of himself speaking on different sales topics. Those videos kept getting him more speaking gigs. Then last year a producer from SpikeTV saw one of his videos and signed him to a TV deal. Now he's got a TV show coming out soon.

I wouldn't recommend that strategy for everyone but it is one strategy IF you are an excellent speaker and can sell yourself, which Victor is great at doing.

My vote would be for instructional video creation. These could be put on YouTube or you could set up webinars. These could be re-purposed on Udemy later.

I work with several public speakers and it's all about personal branding. Write a motivational book. Get a website to promote it through. Reach out to all your local convention centers and tell them that you're available on stand-by for conferences.

Then reach out to niche industries and tell them what you have to say that will motivate their members, and the business will start to appear. Write speeches specific to these types of crowds and get your PowerPoint deck ready to roll in case the phone rings. Also, network like crazy, tell people about your passions and sefl-promote like a wild man. You don't have to toot your own horn either...just tell people how you're inspired by helping others reach their potential.

You will need something to sell. Most of these seminar bookers would want to take a % of your sales.

Once you get good then you can get an speaking agent to help you book

Being good at public speaking still means that you need CONTENT. Public
speaking is a skill to deliver a message but you still need a message.
    So what is your message?

You may also want to explore running a podcast. If you get a following,
then you can later market to them.

Create podcasts for your speeches and sell them on itunes, Amazon or similar sites. Also, have free podcasts or create a radio show to showcase what you do. I know that Michael Campbell knows a lot about this and likely a few others.

I work with a fairly well known public speaker. It really depends on what you want to do, but if you want to build a business around it offline or online you really need to start marketing your self. Shoot a well edited, engaging, single video or video series. Host it on youtube. Get a decent website and social media properties. Start networking with people that are already in the position that you want to be in. Check out Business Speakers, Motivational Speakers, Keynote and Key Note Speakers, Inspirational Speakers - Washington Speakers Bureau to see what the top speakers are doing.
