Article Directory Marketing was really big with Travis Sago's Bum Marketing 6 years ago.
But it was really a fleeting phenomenon that lasted a few years.

It is totally obsolete with the up and downs of Google traffic anymore.

Of course Article Marketing via Syndication is a whole other ball game that can be quite profitable !!

Directory Submission in my view is outdated. people don't use it any more and the ones who do are either not getting anywhere with it or are soon going to be penalized by Google.

Social Media on the other hand is very effective as it brings real and mostly relevant traffic to your website. Engage well, be regular and don't seem desperate.

Paid traffic hands down the best quality and the quickest return. Other forums of traffic are good but take way more time or you gonna pay for it and it takes a lot of time.

Article marketing is tough to do these days. You're better off writing quality articles and putting them on your own blog.

Then use paid traffic if you can afford to... It's really quite effective if you're driving traffic to your blog posts, as long as you're capturing leads and leveraging email marketing.

Facebook and twitter ads are a good place to start imo.

Alongside paid traffic, do some good old fashioned email outreach to thought leaders to get your posts in front of them. Sometimes this opens up other advertising opportunities, such as dedicated email blasts which can really get you fast traffic, as long as you're doing it on a list that doesn't get hammered with solo ads daily.

If you really want the best quality leads, I'd go with direct mail, but it requires a bit more capital up front. I'm making direct mail work better than all other advertising media right now. Just need to work out your customer lifetime value to figure out how much you can spend.

In which, i facebook and twitter is the best, becoz in facebook and LinkedIn you find relevant groups where you market your services which is helpful to increase the traffic of website.

This may have been already said, but personally I like to use sites like reddit, digg and topix to get my stuff out, especially reddit since it is simple yet powerful! Also, find forums dedicated to your niche!
For example, I am an artist so I would (for promoting and light hearted fun) join some manga or comic forums!

For local business you can do business listing also to drive more traffic, blog posting. One thing remember only blog posting is not enough also promote your blog article and article post also.
