How to determine what to sell

I'm interested in selling a publishing product (either a renewal newsletter or one-time ebook) off of Clickbank.

I work for one of the largest marketers in the finance industry, so I can't do anything in that space. I'm a good copywriter but I have no type of product development skill.

Basically I want to enter a sector like dating or gambling, create the copy and manage the marketing. But I'm missing one of the most important ingredients - the product.

I wanted to reach out to the community and ask what other people have done when they were in my situation? I'm not an "expert" or guru or I'd write something myself. But I'm willing to invest some time and money into this project.

    • Many people will find high quality PLR products in the market they choose, then re-write the product to make it uniquely their own, add their own bonuses, upsells, etc and have a product they can call their own.

Another option is to hire a ghostwriter to come up with your product. For a fee, writers will create the product for you. I think it's best for you to research the market first, draw up a specific outline of what you want the ghostwriter to cover, and then let him/her complete the project for you.

A third option is to find a product in the niche you want that is not selling well or that hasn't been introduced to the market yet. You could either offer to buy the product outright, or you could partner with the author - he does the writing, you do the marketing and split the profits in some predetermined manner.

A fourth option would be to find an expert in the field, interview that person, then you transcribe your interview into a written product and sell it based on the expert's knowledge.

A fifth option is to get a series of articles on one subject, re-write the articles so that each article is a chapter in your book, then tie all this together so that the transitions between articles is smooth. Many ebooks are simply a compilation of shorter articles or reports that are tied together nicely.

There are other options, but these five should give you a place to begin.

      The very best to you,

      Steve

  • Another option would be to find a high quality product and just be an affiliate. Yes there are pros and cons and arguments on both sides about which is better - affiliate or having your own product. But, going down this route seems to be a logical choice when one doesn't have their own product.

By trying this you can see what works, what the market wants, get an idea on how to do your own product, etc. while you are developing or arranging for your own product. Many people that sell their own product also sell other's products as an affiliate so it's not necessarily a A OR B type scenario.

Added: Since you want to do the marketing, being an affiliate seems even more logical in the sense that an affiliate only has to worry about the marketing and none of the customer support or product fulfillment issues.
  • 3 simple steps

step 1. pick a huge and hot market (weight loss)
step 2. Find a hot selling course/ book etc.
Step 3. segment it, example... weight loss for middle age women, weight loss for teachers weight for African Americans etc.

Another idea take a ebook and transform it into a video, or a full length course.

Simple , easy making making based on proven success paths .
  • What I want to buy? That's what I'm selling since there are lot of people like me.

    • Thank you guys so much for your help...

I wanted to add to this conversation though.

I'm a copywriter and I love it, but I hate writing e-books. I've been "sourcing" 5-10 different books on a particular subject, taking notes and plan on writing my own e-book. But it's proven to be a long process since I have a hectic work schedule.

I was thinking about hiring someone on elance to write 2-3 reports so I can sell them as premiums, but now I'm thinking about paying someone to write the entire e-book.

My fear is no one will be able to deliver a quality book. Has anyone tried this before?

  • the most valuable 3 piece of information comes from Jim Rohn.

Now this will blow your socks off too.

    1) Always find out what people are buying irrationally.

    2) Find out what triggers that emotion to buy, and press on it even more

    3) Sell the product or service they are after.

When people are in a state like this, they are most likely to buy, but you will soon find not only what you must be selling, but how you sell it.

I liken this to FRANK KERN, have you ever heard him say BUY MY STUFF!..... no!

what you have heard frank kern do in NLP terms is find the trigger, their emotional state, turn them into a zombie, leave them going to be, thinking DANG I GOTTA GET THAT xxxx product, make it play on their mind. Show other people using it and getting results.

So I do not think what it is your selling, but how you are selling it.

A friend of mine here in OZ, has on his sales page, no writing, just 28 videos of testimonials of people using their product.

By the time they have gone and watched video #5, they are already riled up, and by #28 he says they are ready with the credit card out. Because he got them into a state, of "emotional need" he calls it. Plus the proof, and he has said, this sales page pulls at 17% conversions, and like I said, all he has is a red bold headline, 28 PROOF THIS WORKS VIDEOS underneath from current customers, and then a buy button down the bottom of the page. One of the simplest and crazy killer sales pages I have ever seen. Works like a charm he says. I am trying it out too.

if you heard what niche this is in, too, you would not believe me. Its very weird, and crazy niche. Well not weird and crazy, but very unheard of one.

    Hope this helps.
  • Since you’ve been taking notes on many different books and resources, I would suggest that you compile a table of contents.

This table of contents should include your outline for the book.

The next step is to go to a freelance platform and pick out a native English speaker-writer.

It’s crucial that you pick somebody who speaks English as their primary language.

While people from developing countries can write English in a technically flawless way, they might not get all idiomatic expressions.

Depending on where you plan to sell your book this can be a deal killer.

There are all sorts of mental trigger people may have regarding a text that doesn’t quite “read right”.

Once you have a clear idea as to what you’d like to write about, just lay it all out in an outline, get a writer that specializes in that particular topic, and be done with it.

    It really is that simple.

Since you acclaim to be a great copywriter, you have all the ingredients in place for a great clickbank product.

You just need to find a writer with good testimonials.

There’s also a writer for hire section here. You might want to try that.
  • Make sure its a hot market, thats what decides your fate, It must be having some hungry buyers.
