IE7: Can you click on 'New Tab' please ?

If you use IE7 could you please click on New Tab and let me
know if it comes up instantly (as I would expect it to)

When I request new tabs in IE7 there is a frustrating lag
lasting for 4 or 5 seconds with a "Connecting .. " message
displayed

          Hi Harvey

          I get that too on an XP machine. It can take 3 or 4 seconds.

          And sometimes the "connecting..." never goes away and I have to close the process in the task manager.

          It's a secondary PC so I live with it.

          And this is my first post on this cool new forum!

            Would you agree that it should not be so ?

            Did you encounter the runonce problem ?

            When I first installed IE7 I had the problem whereby it
            would try to go to the 'runonce' page whenever it was run.

            Although I changed it to go to the Home page it is almost as
            if IE7 is still trying to visit that page on account of the
            slowness.

              My IE 7 opens new tabs quite slowly too.
              Also shows the connecting message when it opens an
              empty tab.
              It is faster when it opens a real URL.

              FF 3 is much faster and I use it a lot more than IE.

    Got 3 - 5 second delay myself also. But after the first tab--deleting that tab and then clicking again was instant from then on.

    Running XP on cable connection.

    This is just how the browser works. A quick search of google suggests the lag is universal to all users. One speculation is the lag is exacerbated by using the plugins and security features in IE. If you disable them you may reduce the lag (not recommended)
    I use firefox rather than IE.
    There is a free browser called Maxthon Maxthon Browser - Full-Featured Browser that I use on the odd occasion that firefox won't render a site properly. Maxthon is a tabbed browser built on the IE engine but is much faster and quite stable.

      By running without add-ons
      Start > (All) Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer (No add-ons).

      the tabs open instantly.

      So I'll start experimenting with which add ons are causing the problem

      (I should mention that I'm using Windows XP SP2)

    No I don't use it

    However what I have now done is disable nearly all my add-ons
    and it it now running quickly again.

    I thought it would be worth mentioning that I was encountering the same problem, and resolved it by disabling the SSVHelperClass add-on from Sun Microsystems.
