Email is about to become the CENTER of my Universe!

Hey gang, I've been out of the marketplace for a while, and am wondering who is the best company to use for email list building? I used aWeber years ago, but are they still the top dog? I know there are some free choices nowadays, but are they really free? Is deliver-ability 99%-100%?

My list will likely be a few hundred people, certainly under 1000. The list is for home buyers, and I am not in a large marketplace.

I'd rather not have to use double optin, and of course cost is always a concern. MY BIGGEST CRITERIA IS DELIVER-ABILITY. Who are you using, who do you recommend, and why?

Thanks a million!
Jeremy

Because it has been proven time and time again, hands down, that people make much more Money in the long run when they use single optin over double optin

P.S. Aweber is still top dog, imo

For the kind of relatively small list you described, any of the mainstream providers will do the trick.

Aweber and Getresponse are popular among the IM crowd. If you don't plan to get into affiliate marketing, services like MailChimp or ConstantContact might work for you. If you plan to do any serious data mining or segmentation, look into higher level services like Infusionsoft.

For a small, simple list like a client newsletter, one of the self-hosted solutions could also work for you.

As far as using single or confirmed opt-in (often erroneously referred to as "double opt-in"), look to your business model. Are you offering a freebie likely to attract people only interested in the freebie and prone to giving phony addresses *cough* IM *cough*? Go with the confirmed opt-in. Otherwise, go with single.

Aweber is still very good. You can't go wrong with them.

And NEVER use double optin. It protects you from NOTHING and only reduces your optin rate. Leaving you with a smaller less responsive list.

Good luck with your new venture!

Aweber and Getresponse are still top dogs of IM industry.

Aweber is still top in high deliverability and inboxing. But, now a days, they are very strict with spam complaints and other criteria. Its good for long term business.

Getresponse is another top player and have good reputation in IM field.

There are other good options like self hosting or pay as you go types, if you have small list and send less emails.

Costing wise top email companies will charge you monthly based on subscribers count. Pay per go type will charge for emails sent per user and nothing for subscribers.

Self hosted or desktop types cost will depends on SMTP providers you use like amazon, mandrill or your own web host etc.

anyone wanna bet me that both mailchimp and constantcontact will have better deliverability for such a list?

mailchimp wont work if you are doing affiliate promotions, but for a personal business list it would be fine. they run a much cleaner ship than either aweber or getresponse.

constantcontact are the real big boys of the autoresponder world. despite what all the IMers think, constantcontact dwarfs aweber in size, reach and levarage by several orders of magnittude. They power the big boys.

the truth is that both aweber and getrespnse are more understanding of the small time direct marketers. thats why you here those name so much in this niche.

You also have to add in the fact that both services launched with lucrative affiliate programs, so they were both heavily promoted in IM circles. Still are, for that matter.

If memory serves, Aweber was the first AR service to offer an affiliate program and one of the first of any type to offer recurring commissions.

I'm not taking anything away from either company, but there are other factors that led to their prevalence among small direct marketers.
