Hello, Seth. There are a number of routes you can take. I'll go over a few of them for you.

1) Niche Blogging. Niche blogging is the most common way to make money online.It involves using blogging in conjunction with something we call affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing is the idea of promoting another person's product or service and earning a commission whenever you make a sale. It might help you to think of a car salesman or another commission-based job.

With niche blogging, you are basically creating a blog around a certain theme like dating, golf, learn guitar, video games, electronics, etc...Then, you write product reviews and articles about things that people in that niche might find interesting. For example, Insanity by Shaun T. was the most popular exercise program, according to Google. If you're into that niche and had used the product, you might create a blog called "sethsfitnessblog.com" and write a review using keywords that people are using to find said product.

Amazon.com has an affiliate program. You could sign up for that and promote said product. This would mean that every time someone who was looking for info about Insanity came across your blog via the search engines and decided to buy, you'd earn a commission. It's also common to build a list with this method.

2) Ghostwriting. This is just like what it sounds like. You write content for other marketers on a variety of topics. With this method you get paid via Paypal.

3) Product creation. If you currently have an idea for like a digital product (one that is downloadable), there are courses out there that teach you how to do this. Obviously, you will already need to have some specialized knowledge to make this happen. How you get paid with this model depends on which platforms you use to advertise it and what not. It could be via Paypal or something else.

4) PLR store. PLR stands for Private Label Rights and is content that someone can purchase, edit, and use as their own. This content is usually written and will be purchased by a marketer, usually looking for content to put on his or her blog. This is a cheaper alternative to having something ghostwritten for you. Let's say a marketer has a dog-training blog. He or she might go to Google search and look for "dog training plr."

The customer would then go through a modify the content to his or her liking and publish it to their blog, for use in their autoresponder or whatever. When you have a PLR store, the income is residual like with a niche blog because people find you via the search engines and what not. With PLR, you will also be getting paid via Paypal.

5) Kindle. If you are really into writing, you might want to publish your stories on Kindle. Since it's associated with Amazon, I'm assuming that's how you get paid. :-) Even though you can't tell from how much I wrote, I'm not really a fan of all that writing -- even though people have told me I'm good at it.

I hope this helps. In case you're wondering, my preference is for niche blogging. I like the residual aspect of it and the ability to work around my own schedule. I'm one lazy dude. :-)

Well, whatever I was gonna suggest was already mentioned by Miguelito. So, the only constructive thing I could add is you should try to do something you are good at, or something you think you can become good at. So, what are your skills? What are you good at? Figure that out and start exploiting it.

The best way is to build a website, promote it and then start earning money from it.

I started my game site more then five years ago. I worked hard because first I developed it by myself, then I also promoted it by myself, and now the site is quite popular and I earn a lot from Adsense banners that are located in every page of the site.

I started first with a niche website and place adsense and then i slowly moved into affiliate marketing.
Amazon was my preferred way of promoting products through review sites.

Its easy and have a huge collection of niche/products to promote. Since amazon was popular it is easy to promote and get a sales than any other vendors

You can try with freelancing. If you have a certain skill it would be a great option. Building a website is another good idea but keep in mind that whatever you start doing, it's going to take some time before you actually start earning some money.

If you can learn how to design with photoshop or basic HTML/CSS than you can start selling services at the from here or at sites like Fiverr. That can get you started...

I would recommend that you choose something you enjoy.
and yes it takes some time to grow an audience for your website/blog/project.
Think about niches and search for how the websites/people make money in that niche.

Search fiverr for mini-jobs you can also do or for inspiration.

One of the first things you could do is find a mentor. There are mentors in all niches. They charge fees for coaching, but the amount you pay is peanuts compared to what you could make through following their advice. I wish I had done this myself, instead of wasting years of time and way more money than I could afford, looking for methods to make money online. Finally, I realized I needed a mentor --- someone to tell me what to do, and show me how to do it. Good luck in your online ventures.

Hi Seth, There is a learning curve to run a business online. You need to learn a lot of things right from simple html coding to promoting your website. The best part is that you can learn everything on your own but you need to try things and not get disheartened with setbacks. As such, it is advisable to start with something that you are passionate about so that you don't lose your focus if you face some difficulty. Starting something which you enjoy doing will always keep you going. You can build a simple website on a niche you are comfortable in. Collect email addresses in return for a free gift and promote to the list with affiliate products....

Here are three things I found that helped me to make money online:

1. Find a method and TWIST it. What I mean is you need to think about your audience. Who are you targeting? Chances are if a method is posted, you need to find your own traffic source. Be creative and it will come to you. There are tons of places where you can find thousands of people that need a product/service.

2. See if you can automate the process.

3. Analyze, rinse, repeat, scale. Find what works and what doesn't. If you're getting small returns on a lot of effort, even after automation, find a new traffic source. Automate that one, and another, and again until you find something thats getting you clicks. Scale up what works and forget anything that doesn't.

Ironic, I believe your name is the same as an already successful online entrepreneur!

Anyway, you should start by identifying your passions and interests, then do some keyword research to see if there's enough people interested in what your interested in.

Create a website, blog or squeeze page around your chosen interest.

After that you should identify current problems in this market or niche and assess those issues by creating valuable products or services.

And most importantly, capture email addresses at every single opportunity given. This is done by an autoresponder software, like Aweber or Mailchimp.

This is the basic foundation for starting a website that can potentially make you money.

I am surprised that the other posters didn't tell you to use the search feature above like they normally do to others asking the same basic questions.

No one can give you (1) basic answer to this question that is asked so frequently.

It's going to take you a lot of time to start researching how IM works so you can help yourself make an 'educated' decision as to what's best for you.

Well,, the position you are is not unheard of,, Actually I remember being in the same position a while back and I tried so many things that dint work, But just to let you on the simple steps that you need to do, I have outlined a few steps for you to follow and if you need any clarity feel free to PM;
1. You need to look for a good highly converting affiliate program to promote
2. Do some research on the program (Tip dont trust everything you see/read on the internet)
3. You need a mentor to guide you through your journey (ONE mentor is perfect, too many will confuse you)
4. Don't try promoting your own products (At least not at the start)
5. SEEK FOR HIGH TICKET PROGRAMS (The advantages over ride those of low ticket programs)

These are just a few things that can help you kick start you journey

Do you want to build a long-term business that could potentially take months before you start to reap the rewards, or you want to see results in a timely manner. Both have their advantages and disadvantages for someone who is starting out and I think it's important to decide on one of those 2 ways first before moving on.

There are literally 100s of methods to making money online. Read this forum for a day or two, and you'll get plenty of methods.

But first of all, do you have the money to pay for stuff like Domains, hosting etc? These are the basics for a lot of methods.

So, if you don't, you might want to start off with providing some service. There are plenty of places (free) where you can do that, like Fiverr, Odesk, Elance etc.

Figure out what you are good at (writing, designing, marketing etc) and offer services related to that on freelancer sites. Once you make some money, you can go with a method that'll require initial investment, like running a niche site, building lists etc.

It's good to see that you want to start an online business. Don't limit yourself to make money online as it sounds as a short term goal.

There are lot of business models to earn revenue online and different methods attached to each of those business models. If you try to know and implement some of them at your will without any proper strategy in place, you will never know how couple of years passed by without a single penny earned.

So best way is to not only to start with but also to stick to list building, always. You have to build your customer base for your business and see that it's ever growing. When you have a list, you can sell products or services to that list.

However, before that you have to decide what market you will be working in depending upon your expertise and resources. Stick to your passions and strengths and see that your market relates to people's needs and problems.

Most importantly, stay persistent with your efforts till you get results with what you are doing. Make sure that you have a sustainable success with one method before you try another method if you want to.
