Word Of Advice To Beginners: Watch Out For Crazy People...

Heads up...

A word of advice for people just starting out.

If you're in the internet marketing niche, you probably realize that it's sort of treated like the world of Entertainment... where internet marketers are celebrities (which is really weird).

As your reach grows, you may want to...

1) Use a PO box address at the bottom of every e-mail. Just get one at your local post office. They're cheap and tax deductible.

2) Do not show a clear picture of your face anywhere... sure you're probably sacrificing some profits for this, but this is just what I prefer. Allen Says the owner of this forum seems to pull it off nicely.

...The next thing you might need to know is that although you may be an honest, hard-working person out for the good of your clients, most people just generally don't care about you. Why care about them? Because that's what a good marketer does... you've got to look out for their good and be the trusted advisor.

When I first started out, I'd promote any major launch product or anything I THINK will be good (and will stuff a lot of cash in my pocket). Now I primarily promote around 10 other peoples' products who I believe add the most value to customers (this doesn't mean I'll promote something that flat-out doesn't sell though)... you'll generally feel good about your business if you only promote products you believe in. You'll feel like you ARE the trusted advisor. Will you make more money with this approach? Maybe, maybe not... but you'll know that your clients have the right information and strategies if they should choose to apply them.

...Even though a small % of people are just flat-out crazy. They wont be happy no matter what you do. But guess what, it's not your job to make them happy. They're not qualified prospects and they're not customers. They're lunatics. Just block their e-mail addresses and unsubscribe them from your lists. Boot their IP off your website. Most importantly, don't waste time trying to make lunatics happy.

...Then there's a weird game of politics in this biz. Which you want to stay as FAR away from as possible. Remember, you run a business... you're not running for office. Run your business in way that you think is right. Ethics aren't crystal clear or black and white. Remember to do your best to comply with the FTC and CAN Spam Act. However, there are many legal things that I would never recommend doing. That said, YOU must draw the line where you think is the right place. Think strategies through, think about them from a legal perspective, then an ethical perspective, and then decide whether you want to use the strategy.

On last thing... when your reach increases, it's like you've painted a target on your back for lunatics, IM politicians, people who treat IM like it's the Entertainment biz... and the BS gets tiring. BUT I think if you take measures where you're at now, then you can better manage the backlash that comes with the territory of having a profitable online business.
