Ranking worsening after microdata

Hi guys,

I started working few days ago with schema.org microdata (itemprop, itemscope, etc.).

I noticed that a blogpost I put the code on has worsened quite remarkably the Google positioning (from 25 to 60).

Is it normal (maybe because the algorythm is still processing the new info) or I made some sort of disaster?

Also, are microdata the proper way to have rich snippet?

Microdata is the proper way to make a rich snippet, but I don't know how or why it would damage your SERP.

Personally, I have noticed that rankings will fall and then rise again after a major SEO overhaul, so (as you suggested), it may be nothing more than a temporary fluctuation. Give it a week.

Thanks, that may be the reason. I will keep checking and see if there'll be any improvement in the next weeks.

By your experience would you say microdata are useful to improve the ranking?
I've found different SEO people saying different things on this matter.

Well, the microdata craze started when Google enabled authorship images in its search engine. Remember that?

Since Google dropped the images, interest in it has quieted down, and I really haven't heard much about it. In fact, I was rather surprised that you asked about it! LoL

I honestly don't think it's important anymore unless a specific platform such as Twitter or Facebook requires it for their setup.
