Trying to Find Better Ways to Earn

Hi,

I am an engineer turned IT guy. I ended up doing a lot of technical support. I left the US for 1 1/2 years, and left IT. Back now in LA, not finding IT work hardly and I have a friend on the east coast who is very successful online, and I'm trying, but not having much success.

I've tried building websites, learned Wordpress and some HTML. I've had about 10 clients, all from door-to-door.

I have high goals, and want to earn a six figure income. I go to these mixers here in Santa Monica, near Los Angeles, meet lots of tech people. I feel money is flowing around me, but I can't seem to get in! I don't want to keep going door-to-door, so I am looking for another way to earn.

My knowledge is technical, and my interests are health, nutrition, and cutting edge technology.

One site I have is: amazingecoproducts.com (but I have to get a new payment processor).

I am open to ideas.

My advice: Joining the war room might be super helpful for you. There are hundreds of pieces of advice for every single IM subniche you can think of. Spending time researching and learning might be the best way to learn something new.

For the eco site you mentioned ; you could go to ETSY.com pick out some products ; contact the seller and see if they have wholesale rates and list them onto your store to sale them. The homepage to your store doesn't scream eco so you'd have to update that. But the domain is worthy of doing something with and maybe flipping it.

Lastly ... don't give up. Just because it's hard doesn't mean you suck. You still rock just for trying. If one thing doesn't work move onto the next. If it works and makes you $5 then keep working at it and aim to triple that money. Don't stop doing what works just because ... Keep moving forward.

Sending good luck vibes your way.

If you're looking to pick up some freelance work, sites like Odesk and Elance may be worth looking at too.

Hi icoachu, I consult small businesses and do support, create and update websites in Wordpress and some HTML, work with databases, and CRMs (like InfusionSoft).

I don't really code. I can look at code and 'reverse engineer', and for a project, I am learning HTML5 and CSS.

@dana67, thanks, I've tried them both, felt there was a lot of competition. I might check it out again.

There's a lot you can do, but you should focus on one thing -- at least until you get some money coming in. If you want to get into the health and fitness niche via affiliate marketing and blogging (niche blogging: creating a site around a niche with product reviews and articles based on what people are looking for in the search engines), it's one of the biggest niches out there. Insanity by Shaun T. was the most popular exercise program last year (tons of keywords for this).

If you want to go the tech route, you could start a Youtube channel and become a partner. Marques Brownlee (MKBHD) is quite popular and has millions of subscribers. If you wanted to, you could also start a tech blog. In addition to the money he gets from YT ad revenue, he is also going to start selling shirts with various logos on them. These are just a couple of things you could do, but it's really up to you since they're both profitable.

That's terrific advice from Erika and Miguelito --- focus on one thing at a time.
Your knowledge is awesome, and you have very creative ideas. I'd like to suggest that one of the first things you should do is find a mentor. There are mentors in every niche. A mentor will help you find your true passion and show you how to focus on making money from that. Sure, your mentor will charge fees for coaching, but be reassured that whatever you spend will be peanuts compared to what you can make by following his or her advice. Good luck in all your endeavours.

    Keep smiling!

You can earn money by simply a variety of procedures such as:
    * Giving answers to polls
    * Employing their internet search engine
    * Having cash back to shopping on the web
    * Getting online surveys
    * Play game on the web site and so on.

      Yes, pocket money at best!

Look, if you have some skills you think you can explore and earn money from it, try freelancing websites. You can start small and build your way up, once you have a good portfolio that keep on growing, you can increase your prices and really earn some money!

@erikastanley and miguelito, thank you. Thankfully, I picked up a new web design client recently.

@cherrytom, I would love to get a new mentor. I have a friend who's an IT manager in a company on the east coast. He used to have his own IT shop, and also does real estate. I am getting some good advice, not as much in online marketing.

And thanks to Xochitl, anynewsbd, Slade556, and the rest of you all. I am still at it, and have made some progress:

    I redid amazingecoproducts.com using shopify.

For the new client I am helping him sell items. He has tons of things in his art gallery in LA, and I have put some of the items online: https://www.etsy.com/shop/LACustomFraming.

The other idea I have is to get out there and meet people, to promote my site, and web design services for now. I would like to know more about online marketing, as I feel the item I am selling is very important, as it produces water from air, which is very important here especially in LA, yet the obstacles are 1) they are backordered about a month, and 2) they are a little expensive at $1300.

I'll keep at it, unless anyone has any other ideas. Thank you all again.

If i were you i would focus on providing services of creating WP sites as you mentioned that this is your core competence. There is huge demand for WP site building and maintenance as many people are not techy enough. This can be your cash flow and will provide you with consistent income, and then you can branch out to other stuff such as weight loss etc. It's really key to focus on one thing and then branch out once you have a stable cash flow.

    Hope this helps.

    Hey all,

Thought I'd return to this post, as many of you been helpful in the past and helped form the direction I want to go.

Recently, I had a week trial to the war room. I stayed on and joined. I've been reading, and tried different things. Also I returned to this post and found a tip I had missed, and applied to a few jobs on upwork.com (which used to be elance and uguru I think).

I've been lucky to work for a client for 2 years remotely, doing html edits, and work Infusionsoft. At first it was a supplemental, now earning almost enough to live off of.

I am in Medellin, Colombia, where I took a week off to visit and work remotely. So cool. However, a little bummed as I misread my departure time today and had to buy a new ticket for tomorrow. Although I am upset, I am trying to let that fuel me to get things going and increase my income.

I have many ideas, one that seems to be one of the best is to have something online where people can buy info or products anytime, so I can make money 24/7.

I've been reading about and watching clickbank videos. I also have a few sites active, but none make any money:

    • admaticonsulting.com

    • unlockyourhips.com (based on following a pdf from the war room Making $ in 7 Days, using ClickBank and promoting a product. I chose unlockyourhipflexors.com)

    • nutritionbyeric.com

After reading a lot, and hearing from other successful people, seems it will work better if I follow my passion.

I am the most passionate about Health Coach and Speaker | Nutrition By Eric. I went through a nutrition school online (spent $5000!), and I haven't been doing anything with it. I think I can make money helping people overcome health issues. I want to spruce it up and add all the social things - I have FB and it's on there. I also have instagram, twitter, and youtube. Trying to get those icons added to the theme, having some trouble. I may change themes (open to suggestions btw).

I'm not a great writer (took me forever to write this post), but I want to do something doable.

Besides trial and error, which seems I am doing, anyone have any ideas?

Build a list. Find a affiliate product or even lead them into a paid service you can do yourself. One you have how you are going to monetize or make money you well have two options here I feel.

The first is to create a free offer leading then into your affiliate product or your service but in a way that your free gift does it to help make it whats the word "irresistible" At that point your really not even selling to them. High conversions

The second way and really its what ever your imagination will allow you but instead of a free offer you have a very low front end product. This is building a buyers list and you will find that this list takes a lot more action.

For example I'm playing with something now where I have to versions the only difference is one has a price tag while the other is free but I have it on warriorplus and over 50% of the people that come in on the front end have purchased my first upgrade so to speak service.

Since you are a technical person and you are interested in cutting edge technology,
I suggest you create a blog around cutting edge technology informing your readers what is all about these cutting edge technologies. Create a really great content around those things that will encourage a lot of people to read what you have posted in there. Make it an authority site in the cutting edge technology niche.

Funnel traffic from as many sources as you can and endorse related affiliate products in there. You may want to sell advertising space too on a monthly basis or through Cost Per Thousand Impressions. When you get a constant and big traffic to your site.. 6 figure income is achievable. Just follow your passion and enjoy what you do. The money will flow to you.

Awesome idea, thank you. I wonder if I can parlay that into a "game plan" I've found in the war room. I started on it about a week or so ago. It's turned in to unlockyourhips.com, a bare bones which took me a lot of work, where I am trying to promote my first ClickBank product, unlockyourhipflexors.com, (hence the similar url).

Another love I have is for health and nutrition, and have nutritionbyeric.com, after finishing a 1 year nutrition school program online. Thinking of the above idea for that, where I could share my knowledge and info, and maybe have a products page as well.

I appreciate that there are many ways to go about earning online. Going to give the game plan some time, the above idea is really tempting as well. There are just a lot of resources out there, trying to figure out which one is the best to use.

Yeah man it looks like you have a lot of ideas and passion. The key is to really lock-in on a goal and create a plan that could realistically get you to your goal. It has been proven that if you can build a list in your niche and build a strong relationship with that list, you can make money from promotions of affiliate offers and your own offers. If you focus on traffic and conversions you will make money. There are so many different ways to make money online as well as a lot of contradictions, so it's best to just stick to a plan and see it through.

Has anyone used that model, where they have a page of items that they've chosen?

    Hi Pranaman,

As far as I noticed you must go with health and nutrition with laser targeted focus. Focus only on one thing and yes you can use your technical skills to make it big. I mean use your technical skills in health and nutrition by making website, blog, designing, coding based on health and nutrition whatever the case which I think you are already doing. So don't divert your energy on different-2 sector. Work on health and nutrition both are congruent. And very-very important provide enormous value to your prospects related to your subject. I mean in health and nutrition. People will love and follow you and of course money will follow you and will not be around you.

Really it was a great advice that find a mentor. Yes find a mentor related to your field who can take you by the hand. Who is already successful in your field.

One more thing never ever stop learning. Learn how to market, how to do business. Learn everything that you can to be succeed. Invest in your education. Have a business mindset (not free). Banish all negativity from your mind.

"Failure always ask why it happens to me? Why I am not making money? And on the contrary a successful person always ask how can I do this? or how can I make it better?"

    Hope this works.

All good advice here Pranaman but it sounds to me like you need to kick back for a bit and get reading. You really could do worse than joining the War Room, there's some brilliant info in there but don't fall into the trap of becoming overwhelmed and never taking action (that seems to be fairly common!).

With your techie background that might be the way forward for you making money online but if I was you I would wait until you've done some reading and research through the threads here and maybe ever head over to FB and join some of the Internet Marketing and Joint Venture groups and see if anything catches your eye and gets you excited!

This stuff is so much easier when you actually enjoy what you're doing.
    Good luck.

    Cheers
    Jon
