An Amazon book strategy

Some categories of Amazon are sticky. If you can get ranked there, your book just might stay there for a long time.

For instance, in my category "cancer" the top six books have been hanging around the top spot for up to four years. That's a lot of income especially if you are self published.

My book just appeared there for the first time at #1 earlier today: The Doctor Who Cures Cancer.

How did it happen? Through a JV deal. So the secret is to find a JV partner who would be willing to do an exclusive Amazon "play" for your book. Let them keep all the profits for a few days if you need to. You're interested in the income you'll get from a few years.

It might also be valuable to be able to say you wrote the #1 bestselling book on Amazon for a particular big niche.

One caveat: make sure it's a truly valuable book because you're going to be relying on visibility AND word of mouth. If the book isn't truly great, this strategy could be short lived.

First off, I am so jealous that you live in Panama City! My family stays at the Shores of Panama resort almost every year and it is really one of my favorite places on Earth. My secret little goal for about two years now has been to pay cash for a condo there outright, but it hasn't happened yet.

Also, I appreciate your info; I've been putting off publishing for years now simply because of dealing with all the different formatting. I know Amazon is clearly the way to go and I have two great books already written/edited (building/running a restaurant brand and then dominating the freelance arena), plus I'm currently writing one on a controversial subject that I won't share for now. But I don't have time to chase a publisher and I don't have the skill-set to go from Microsoft Word to completed book.

Would you mind if I messaged you some time for a few tips? I can definitely return the favor in other ways.

Grats on your success, by the way...that's really awesome. I've actually ghostwritten written multiple Amazon bestsellers and one that danced around the bottom half of the NY Times list few years back; I just can't take credit for them. But I see the success that my clients had so I know that I have to stop putting it off.

Cool tip! Were you #1 for kindle or physical or both?

Today's rankings were for a softcover book only. By coincidence, I'd pulled the Kindle version off the market because somewhere along the way, the formatting had gotten corrupted.

Then about two weeks ago, Someone from Amazon noticed I didn't have a Kindle edition and called me and offered to format the book for free from my CreateSpace softcover edition. So far, it's not ready yet but could be any day now.

This could work for either one, although there can be so little money to be made from a Kindle, it probably wouldn't interest a JV partner.
