Right on! - I don't consider myself much of a techie myself (thought that's highly relative - I know a little PHP and javascript, which to some folks may as well be black magic).

But I've never had the confidence to attack making my own themes or plugins, but a lot of these reference guides look to make that a lot easier to attack by having all the theme tags and stuff handy.

Anyway, glad you liked that list as much as I did. I'll be digging in deeper myself, and I've already saved/bookmarked all of these separately too.

Well, I did make many themes and even upgraded an "abandoned" plugin a while ago... still I find those sheets good to have them handy (e.g. designing/coding a theme on my local xampp, without internet connection and access to the Codex, yet having all the template tags).

Wow, I never thought of using them to code away from the internet. That kind of blew my mind!

I was going to say that I'd never coded on a computer that wasn't connected, but I DID used to practice writing CSS and javascript by hand in a notebook when I was younger.

At the time, I thought it was cool. Now, I wish I'd spent my time doing something more useful, lol. But I digress. You're welcome, and glad you liked it!

Oh, that's the best! I'm already counting up the saved hours. Don't know why I never thought of looking for or creating some quick reference sheets like that for myself. That's going to really helpful, thanks!

Whilst we're on the subject of WP tips for the coding inclined, here's a stellar snippet I picked up a few weeks back, for use in page menus:

PHP Code:

  <?php echo preg_replace('@<li([^>]*)><a([^>]*)>(.*?)</a>@i', '<li$1><a$2><span>$3</span></a>', wp_list_pages('echo=0&orderby=name&exlude=181&title_li=&depth=1')); ?>

Which lets you generate something like this:

HTML Code:

<li><a href="yourlink"><span>Your Link</span></a></li>

For those familiar with creating tabbed menus using CSS, you'll spot that the span tags in there let you create tabbed menus in Wordpress. Here's an example using this method: http://www.practicalrebatecertificates.com/

If you're not sure how to take those span tags and utilize them to create slick menus, grab a copy of CSS Tab Designer 2 which will give you all the code you need.

Haha yeah I just about did a somersault when I found that snippet. I've wanted to do tabbed menus for ages, and wouldn't have had the first clue how to come up with that php on my own.

It's one more thing to add the to arsenal of ways to make Wordpress look just like a traditional website.

Thanks. I am getting close to putting up my first ever wordpress site. I need basics, but I like to be able to tweak things once they are in place. I know enough HTML and CSS to adjust my sites and now I have the cheat sheets to play with word press.
