What Should I Do With All Of My Unused Domains?

Hi,

I have quite a bit of domains I've purchased over the years (about 100). I pretty much use NameCheap for them.

Most are for projects I may get to some day ...but if the right offer came in for any of the domains I'd certainly sell to off-set my $1,000+ fees each year.

Do you all recommend listing them all on GoDaddy marketplace? Or doing something else with them to see if any good offers come in?

Also, is there an easy way to put PPC or something on all of them to help off-set the cos somewhat?

Let me know your thoughts please. For example, what do businesses do that just buy and sell domains (and treat each one like an investment, and never developing them, just waiting for the right offer to come in). Do they register them somewhere super cheap (I don't know about), or off-set their costs by just putting up some PPC, or something else?

Thank you!

    It depends, really.

If they were mine, I'd assess how much passive traffic they received, and determine if that income was better than the one I could funnel into another project after selling the domains. It woud be a choice between redirecting to a CPA or selling on the open market. As far as selling goes, forget Sedo, etc. You'll be waiting to long for a sale. Take the suckers on DNForum or make direct contact to people who would logically be interested.

most major domain selling companies do offer some kind of PPC, but you might be better off making a niche site with something like http://covertpinpress.com/

  • I let several domains expire a few years ago by mistake including my own name:

arnoldstolting.com - arnoldstolting arnold stolting Resources and Information. This website is for sale!

Looks like sedo is selling it for2900 Euro, equal to 3114.60 US Dollars.

I guess if someone finds value in purchasing a URL with my name for the asking price,
(and they should) , then maybe with the right exposure for all of your 100 URL's
it may be possible for you to retire from just selling yours.

I guess it's all about finding the right buyer for each one.

I once had several hundreds of URL's at one point, (from the days when I found it necessary to buy a domain for each new idea that popped into my head), until I realized I was just paying a few grand a year for them but not doing anything with them, so I ended up selling them to people in my circle of connections.

I tried domain name marketplaces etc, but it's too much hassle for me.

If your friends (marketing peeps, etc) or even your subscribers on your mailing list are in similar niches as you, then selling URL's, shouldn't be a problem.

That seemed to work for me.
