I want to get started with affiliate marketing. I did respond to a couple of offers on the WSO thread but no one responded back.

So...I don't see a thread for a newbie such as myself. I do have a Clickbank account. Am I correct in understanding that I now need a domain (such as Hostgator)? Then I get my site set up and go.

Sorry to sound so confused ... but I really am!!

Thanks

Have you considered a specific niche you want to market in?

I first would choose which group of audience I would want to serve and help with useful content and tips. (Make sure that group of people are spending money.) Then, set up a blog or niche site centered on that topic.

You're not going to get much positive responses from merchants who run affiliate programs if you don't have an established site. But, I do LOVE affiliate marketing. And don't forget you can also create your own info products to sell, or sell tangible affiliate products from Amazon or join an affiliate network like ShareaSale.com.

    Hi,

Are you building an email list first and foremost?

    Have you chosen your niche?

Do you have a product to sell that can build you a buyers list?

You see building a BUYERS list that own a credit card and have shown
that they are SERIOUS about knowing MORE about XYZ.....

.....Are far better quality than just a bunch of prospects where most
are just after your free stuff.

Then you can continue to promote related affiliate offers to those buyers
on your lists knowing that they are just that......BUYERS.

I wouldn't just focus on affiliate marketing without building a buyers list
    first.

The time you spend on making affiliate sales, you could be building a
HUGE ASSET like a buyers list.

First you need to decide on which niche you want to market in. Then buy a domain and hosting and set up your website. You can then set up an auto responder to market to your subscribers. Create an opt in page for people to sign up to your email list.

Thank you for this site. I've decided to start with Hubpages to get started because I can't invest much at the moment. I'm hoping to learn how this work by doing and THEN buy a domain and do a little more.

      Thanks again!

You need to figure out the following first.

      A) What niche do have a passion for?
      B) What are the problems in that niche?
      C) What solution will you or the affiliate product you are selling offer?
      D) What about affiliate marketing excites you?
      E) Have you ever sold anything offline or online?
      F) Do you have any experience in sales and marketing?

Depending on your answers to these questions you may or may not decide this is for you. You can certainly learn, but your learning curve may be steeper than those who may have answered "Yes" to most of these questions. Best of luck.

Sunnydaze, I see no one has really answered your question, so here it goes.

First of all, Host Gator is a site that sells web hosting, for a domain name I recommend Namecheap or GoDaddy. You CAN buy domain names (although I checked it just now on Host Gator that part of the site is down) but I'd recommend the previous 2 sites.

What happens is once you buy a domain name, for instance, Sunnydaze.com, you have to have a web server that can host it, basically it's a computer that will hold all of that websites information, pics, pages, files, whatever.

The most popular plan is that shared hosting plan. This is perfect because you can host unlimited domains. This means you can buy new names that are relevant to whatever sites you want to set up.

The shared plan is better than the baby plan (IMO, but it is cheaper), however if you're just going to have one site like a blog or something and nothing else, you can use the baby plan and it'll come out pretty cheap every month.

Ok so if that seems like too much to read, check out this video that shows you how to buy a domain name on GoDaddy and point it at the servers on Host Gator, it's not too complicated no worries lol.

Aso, here is another video that will help with setting up a Wordpress blog, it's a bit long but VERY detailed and the guy even gives you some pointers along the way. It helped me set a site up before.

I hope this helps, let me know how it goes!
