Feeling stuck to my 9-5

How's everybody doing?

I'm currently working full time as a manager (45 hrs/wk). I've built a connection with the other managers at my store. Our GM is a piece of s**t and all of the workload is put on the managers. I feel like leaving while the store is in the state that it's in would be dishonorable, sort of like jumping ship after I've already made so many commitments. To add to this, I'm making just enough at this job to pay my rent, feed myself, and maybe $100 in pocket money every two weeks.

With that being said, I know where my heart lies and that's in a place where I have freedom over my time. Every day I think to myself, "I don't get paid enough for this." I'm in debt from a few loans that I can't manage just yet so I've been trying to figure out a way to make some extra money aside from my job. I've been away for a while so I'm not really sure what the internet market is looking like right now.

I have about 2-3 hours to spend per day. I was thinking about either offering article writing services or starting an info website and using my few hours of free time every day to build that up to steady income. Are info blogs still viable? Can anybody recommend any methods to make some decent income ($600/mo starting goal) with the time that I have available?

listbuilding!! has always been, still is, and will remain for a long time to come the most efficient way to market online. it is THE way, and it can be combined with any other thing you can come up with, in the end it will be your listbuilding efforts that will finally get you out of the treatmill you are in!

    good luck!

      Thanks for the quick reply.

Do you know about any guides or programs out there that focus on building a profitable list? Whatever I decide to commit to in the end, I'm going to need a little direction.

You mentioned article writing as an option so I wanted to comment on that. I've been freelance writing (mostly just regular web content articles) for about five years now. I do it part time, right now about 25-30 hours per week I'd say. I'm on track to make between $55-60k in 2015. I made just under $40k last year.

I tell you this just to let you know that it is a legit way to make real money if you are a pretty good writer, which you seem to be. The hardest part is getting your first few regular clients but once you do that it is just a matter of getting the writing done. I always have way more orders than I can handle at a time.

Anyway, just thought I'd let you know. If you have any questions about it, feel free to PM me (I am not sure if I will check back on this thread or not).

    God Bless

    Michael

My suggestion: do both. You certainly have the writing chops. As far as blogs still being a viable option: they are indeed, and always will be. I wish you all the best!

Article writing services will get you some nice incomes.. People need it a lot. You can start selling your service and building a customers list at the same time.. Offer your customers some discount when they subscribed to you.

It's the easiest way to start your business

    Good luck,

I know the feeling...you feel like you should be doing something that makes you feel more rewarded. However, leverage that job or find another that will work for you.

You can build your IM career in the part time.

Here is a great post that can help you since you mentioned writing...

Writing is a great way to get your feet wet, and if you're decent, there are many ways you can earn money doing it... Write articles, meta tags, sales copy, ebooks, create private label rights packages.

I started out exact where you were, and I started with writing

The great thing about writing for extra income is that people always need content and it's something that's tangible. You can always rely on the fact that people will need content regardless of how the industry or economy is doing.

Thank you for all the great replies! I've got to say, I was able to take a little bit from each one. I've decided to focus on list building and affiliate marketing and only turning towards writing when I really need the extra boost.

If I become a multi million dollar success story, I'll be sure to check back here.

Maybe, just maybe, you should do it the other way. I was enthusiastic with IM and didn't make it. So after doing different stuff to make living, I'll try again. But for now I do my project as a side gig, so the domain ages and everything. Meanwhile I do freelancing stuff on sites that offer all kinds of jobs. I'm concentrating on the guys that spend big on the platform with lots of small jobs in a lot of categories. When looking at their history and communicating with them, I can see the plans that they are following. This really is paid education. Take my word for it. While my earnings as a freelancer are not great, they are pretty reasonable. But the lessons I learn are invaluable.
Your writing seems very good to me (I'm German) and you seem to be smart. Give it a go, stalk your clients and learn a lot.

Building a list would be one of the quickest ways to make money, but you have to know what you are doing. Hosting, Domain Name, and Autoresponder.

You can get all those setup in a day. You can also start a blog/website to help build up your credibility with your list, but in the beginning it should be used only for that. A place to send your list for information.

Pick a niche, figure out if the niche is profitable, figure out a problem, and solve that problem. Sounds simple but it's going to take some work.

If you spend that 2-3 hours a day diligently you can get something going fairly quickly. Learn, read, study, take action. Rinse and repeat. Stay focused and consistent.

Continue to frequent the forum and don't be afraid to ask questions and help others. The best way to learn is by doing and asking.

    Wish you the best.

Hi...got a contrarian idea for you.

Make friends with your GM. Visit him. Tell him you're interested in advancing BOTH your careers...and what improvements or goals does HE have that you can help him achieve?

Find goals you can buy into and re-energize yourself with that.

As far as a blog goes, do you have a topic you'd especially enjoy talking about?

I see you've decided affiliate marketing is a better focus. What product types have you decided to promote?

  • There are many great internet businesses that you can run with 2-3 hours per day.

    > Dropshipping
    > Ebay/Amazon Commerce
    > Affiliate Marketing
    > Product Launches
    > Blogs
    > Video
    > Offering Services.

However, don't expect immediate results. All of these revenue streams take time to build

    Hi iRunThis,

I noticed you've been a member of this forum for a few years and you're a member of the War Room.

You probably already know everything there is to know about making money online. (Ok, maybe not everything but certainly the long-term methods that work.)

I think what you need to do is pick just one method (list building plus affiliate marketing is definitely a good model), develop a brand & usp you can stick with for the next 3-5 years, and focus on driving traffic to your sales funnel.

Make a detailed plan, focus, and do something every day to get you closer to your goals.

Hopefully you'll reach and surpass your million dollar goal.

Don't give up, and no matter what, keep moving forward.

If you want to build a business, list building is definitely where it's at.

Create a landing page offering something for free, drive traffic to that page with solo ads, when a subscriber opt-ins, put them through a sales funnel for instant profit, then as you build your list, mail promotional offers to your list for more income. As your list grows, so does your income.

Basically, invest in yourself (more specifically, your KNOWLEDGE) as often as possible. Can't find the time? MAKE the time. Bring audio courses for your car on your commute to work. Use your lunch break to work on your sites/list building. If you have specific skills to offer (writing, web design, programming, etc.), use them to make extra cash on sites like Guru.com, Elance.com, Fiverr, or Freelancer.com. Finally, give Kindle eBooks some thought. Publish once and you get passive income FOREVER. Easy to do and you can publish within 24 hours. Good luck.

List building with affiliate marketing allows better leverage of your time long term than article writing. I think it is a wise choice to only do the article writing for others when you need the extra cash. If you needed shorter term cash flow then I would advocate for the article writing but as long as you have a day job to cover your living expenses definitely concentrate on the longer term. Once you learn a niche through affiliate marketing you can use your writing skills to develop your own product.

I recommend list building and affiliate marketing to get started. Then once you build up your list to a few thousand subscribers, you can start creating your own products.

List building is best thing to invest your time into. You can approach it in following way,

    1) Research and pick one niche of your interest.

    2) Research on people's biggest problems in the niche.

    3) Do Look for a product to promote as a solution.

    4) Build a Squeeze page offering some free report offering solution to some micro problem.

    5) Follow up and build relation with your leads and propose your solution.

You can also invest in some good course or a mentor to guide you through.

    Good Luck

I felt exactly the same way when I was stuck in the rat race. Your best shot is to build your list like crazy as the saying goes... "the money is in the list".

List building shouldn't be difficult. Find a niche you are interested in, build a squeeze page, find forums about your niche and strive to help as many people on that forum and then recommend your squeeze page to them.

After that you have to build relationship with your list because you have to build trust before you start recommending products to them. Since you are starting, try as much as possible to go with a free email/autoresponder software that will allow you to add free subscribers and also send free emails per month. There are paid email providers out there but it is expensive when starting out because you haven't made any money yet.

This free email software MyListr.com... Free Email Marketing Software & Autoresponder | MyListr.com allows you to add 2,000 free subscribers and send 12,000 free emails every month without paying a penny.

    Hope this helps.
