It depends. Google Blogger/Blogspot has deleted a lot of make money type blogs and they continue to do so. If you are using any money making methods other than AdSense, I'd recommend investing in your own site/domain.

Blogger is an excellent starter platform. When you get to the point where you want to do more with it, you can try the free version of WordPress. Then after that, you can move to your own hosted blog.

I suggest, however, that you buy your own domain name now and point it toward your current blog URL. That way, you won't lose traffic or ranking during all that "traveling" (experimenting).

Well said Dana you will be building your business on quicksand.

Pay for a self hosted blog and you can do what you like without the fear of Google shutting you down one day.

You get what you Pay for in the case of blogger you get what you are not paying for.

Depends on your reasons/motivations for starting the site. As you're on this forum I suppose you'd like to make some money with it and therefore I'd agree with others and suggest you get your own domain and hosting (the shared hosts are like $4-5/month and often come with free domain name). If it's just to try or as a hobby, it's fine to go the free blog route (but even then I'd consider wordpress.com rather than the google services, as nmwf suggested, but I'd go with that right away). Anyway, get your own dot com and cheap hosting if you are serious with it. You will also learn some useful skills that way.

For a small Wordpress site, any of the popular shared hosting providers will be fine (personally I have experience with several of them and they are all very similar). Just don't let them upsell you to useless additional services.

I would recommend doing both of them but sooner or later you will find that you will need to get your own domain and hosting since with blogger you don't have much control for your business..

And to answer your thread title, in my opinion blogger is good not only for first timers.. I have been doing online marketing since 2011 and still using blogger until this moment

But are you able to generate money from your blogging via ads etc ? Doesn't google restrict few of the things? Also isn't it risky that if you break few rules google might bring down your blog ?
(P.S : Most of the people have said the above lines to me :p)

If you want to earn money from this sector, you should Buy domain & hosting. On the other hand if you do not want to earn money, you can use the free version. I always suggest anyone to use the paid version only. Because the free version may loss any time. The blogger is easy to use. You have to decide, which way you should choose Free or paid?

I started with blogger and made a couple hundred bucks, but if you have the money to buy your own properties then you probably should.

I only recommend blogger if you truly don't have the funds to buy your own wordpress blog and hosting package.

I never used to recommend this but I'm going to say Blogger is well worth considering so long as your content is suspect which could lead to a ban. That said, I've got some blogs that could look a little spammy and they're still going - although if they do ever get suspended it's not the end of the world for me.

    Good points about Blogger:

    1. It's bloody fast and is great for Pagespeed so, in turn, has some affect on ranking
    2. Easy to use
    3. You can add your own custom domain instead of using blogger.com or blogspot.co.uk

I would not make Blogger my "money site". Use it to provide content with links to your money site. The money site should, IMO, be your own domain that you host.

Blogger brings back memories I think I started my first blog around 2008-2009 or so on Blogger.com. Great starter platform for sure, although I'm not sure if you can monetize it not (check with their guidelines).

Don't go with the mindset that you will start on a free platform and then change later as you learn things or start making money. This is a mistake which many newbies make. They are unwilling to invest any amount of money in their online ventures as they lack the confidence whether they will be able to make anything or not. But if you study the mindset of all successful people - whether online or offline, you will find that almost all of them had determination in sticking to something until they were successful at it. They were also willing to take small, calculated risks along the way.

Buying a domain and hosting is not too big an investment. Try to get the money arranged somehow by asking at home or doing some small gigs to generate the required money. It will make you more serious in your approach if you have your own domain. It will also be better in the long run and you will have more control, there will be no risk of getting your account banned or something.

Even if your first website fails, do not think that you have wasted so much money on it and don't regret the fact that you purchased domain and hosting for it. Failures teach us lot of lessons. Hardly anyone succeeds in a venture the first time itself.

I recommend you to use your own domain, so you won't lose traffic from moving.
Getting your own domain doesn't require a huge investment anyway.
