If you had to explain what a internet business is to someone or what you do for a living how do you explain it? What is a internet business to you?

    For me, my internet business is actually mostly a publishing business, which is what I tell people. I also tell them I am involved in e-commerce and marketing consulting.

      I agree for most people here the best answer would be publishing, sometimes combined with consulting or programming. Sometimes I present my company as a consulting company, sometimes I present it as a media company (depending on who's on the other side).

      My mum (59yo and active internet user) often tells me she doesn't know what I really do for living and is unable to answer to her friends when they ask her (I've been in the business since 2009). I've tried to explain it to her many times with not that much success. When asked by friends I usually say I sell software, do consulting and develop websites, which is more or less what I do. Sometimes I try to be funny and say I "sell hotels" (I do Booking.com affiliate program and some other travel in my older projects).

      Btw, I think that if you do it right (not that I do everything right), you should have an answer other than "internet business" and the fact that it's online or offline is unimportant. Actually, finding an answer to this question (what do you do / what is your business), without saying internet business is a good starting point for a sound long-term strategy. Don't do "internet business", do something specific, if you know what I mean.

    A Internet system designed for systematic profit.

    Granted, I use (Internet) business as a vehicle for greater causes. But brass tax is at the heart of every business. A business can't live without it. Thus, this 'systematic profit' definition.

    Internet Marketing also referred to as affiliate marketing is basically where a person has got a problem that they are looking for a solution to. Your job as an Internet marketer is to help the potential customer find a solution to their problem by providing them a review of the product that will essentially provide a solution to their problem.

    Here I would like to tell everyone, Internet business, means a business, which is run by the help of computer & internet. Nowadays most of the business/ Traditional business is going to convert to the internet business. I like it too much. I am selling goods, Ebook online. The business is my main earning source.     In the broadest of terms, it's a business that you run via the internet. I also tell people that there isn't just one way to make money online but several. The one you choose is up to you and depends on your interest and how soon you might need it to start generating money. Lots of people understand that Youtube has grown into an advertising platform, so it's easier to explain the idea of adsense when you compare it to television.

    When I talk about the idea of niche blogging, I explain what a niche blog is and how it is used in conjunction with affiliate marketing. Most people get the idea of a niche blog if you provide them with an explain, and to explain the idea of affiliate marketing, I use the idea of a car salesman or some other commission-based job. I also tell them how all major businesses nowadays have affiliate programs -- even sites like Amazon (everyone has used that at one time or another) and so on.

    When someone asks me what I do online I tell them that I create and sell digital information products. I also explain to them that I do affiliate marketing and coach others 1-on-1 showing them how to start their own online business similar to mine.

    As I understand it, an internet business is a business that is operated online on the Internet.

    Internet business is a lifechanger.
    I would say a lifestyle but for me it goes pretty much on autopilot.
    Making money online and having a internet business is one of the best things ever happend to me

      Isn't it whatever you want it to be?

      As soon as you put limits or boundaries on what you think an Internet business is . . . I guarantee there will be those outside your definition that will claim to be doing Internet business.

      I have an acquaintance (not a personal friend) that is doing "Internet business" and he has no web site, no list, no clients, no products, he's not running a service, he has no way of taking payments . . . he is basically off the grid but he makes considerable money with his computer and Internet connection. He wants no publicity and he would rather people don't know what he does.

      My point is . . . defining an Internet business is like trying to explain what salt tastes like (without using the term "salty").
