It's sad but, there is still a lot of Internet Marketers still using outdated techniques when it come to opt-ins.

Depending on your current level of Internet Marketing business experience, I guess will depend on which version your using now. So you may not have upgraded your technique with the times.

I am still seeing people using the old lead magnet technique the old way set up like this...

Free Lead Magnet = Opt-in for free gift (free eBook on title of interest)

Followed by a follow up e-mail sequences to try and get them to buy your product.

There no doubt that in some cases it still works, but not as good as the new system.



The new system in place now is set up like this...

of value and meeting their end results using parts of the product that your are selling)

Followed by e-mail sequences divided into 5-7 emails that each explain the benefits and end results that your prospect will get in what you are promoting. Some like to do 30 emails depending on their preferences and approach.

    The only difference is the type of freebie. I wouldn't call it "new" by any means. Some markets respond to ebooks, some respond to video.

      I guess you can say there are kinda the same, but I feel like video sales people a lot easier then eBooks these days. After all, how many people are on Youtube now?

      People love video.

      People are more interested in seeing information rather than reading about it. Plus it allows us to communicate complex messages very quickly.

      This also gives potential customers a quick view of your brand’s main points, while sucking them into the bigger conversation.

      I do use eBooks as lead magnets still, but I think a video lead magnet beats the old eBook magnet any day.

        there are still many people who do like E-books better. To have the opportunity to move ahead and skim thru an e book can be convenient for some.

        Not everyone loves videos. I don't, they're usually too long and full of B.S.

        I think it all depends on the market. I prefer video in some cases and a ebook in others. If I know about the subject (the basics) or a technique I'm trying to learn a video is far more helpful.

        But if a topic involves straight information, facts, tips or "secrets" I prefer an ebook, rather than watch a static screen or look at a face on a screen for 2 hours (unless it's Beyonce' or Rihanna).

        Ebooks have kinda gone down in perceived value because of the flood of fluff eboooks that's flooded the market. Now many marketing experts suggest not even calling them ebooks anymore, but guides or manuals. But the ones that over-deliver will always be in high demand.

    People use the first method because it makes more money than the second method.


    Although as mentioned, they are identical. They both:

    1) Capture a lead with a FREEBIE Opt-In
    2) Use a follow-up sequence to engage the opt-ins.

    The difference is the second option sounds like a newbie who doesn't know what he is talking about and doesn't know how to QUICKLY engage his list and TRAIN them to behave according to his business model.

    Who spends 30 days doing this?

    Do you know why the first method makes WAY more money than the second?

    Re-read what you wrote and see if you can figure it out.

    I will give you a hint: Only one of the two uses the word "buy" anywhere.

    How does the second method make money? You can "explain the benefits" until the cows come home but you aren't going to make any money until you "get them to buy".


    And only the first method you described has a sequence designed to "get them to buy".

    Your second method spends a month describing perceived benefits.

    They're the same way.

    Your "new" way is just how to line up those two things and convince in a certain way.

    I see the same kind of thing from people touting a "new" traffic source and then it's Reddit. Reddit isn't new. There's been an arseload of traffic on Reddit for years. And the way to tap into that traffic isn't new, either - it's just screenshots of someone going through the motions of "how to engage a community" that we've been using, again, for years.

    Of course, if you didn't know those things, it's "new to you" and certainly worth your $17 or whatever if you're going to leverage that and make the money back. Which you can, with just one meaningful promotion.

    The real "new" way is for your lead magnet and email sequence to sell YOU. The idea is now not to sell your product, but to sell your expertise until your audience is actively looking for ways to spend money with you. Then you just make those ways easy to find.

    it all comes down to the market sophistication level of the niche your are in , in the Im niche the method of lead magnet, then sell something right after is going to be harder because the market knows this method very well, however if you use it in a less savvy niche where the market sophistication is lower , like how to grow taller niche , the first method could still do well.

    plus it also depends where you are getting the traffic from, that would have a factor on how I set up my lead generation strategy

    if I'm using cold traffic to a savvy market like the IM niche for example, I would send them to a content rich page connected to a content rich blog , the page will have no optin just content, or maybe a optin a the bottom of the page, but the purpose of the page is just to add value, then I would re target everyone that came to that page with a ad that directs them to a squeeze page offering some sort of lead magnet, and then give them something to buy.

      Yes very ture!

      One thing I've been noticing lately if you want to promote IM products on FB, I found that sending them to my Blog Review, seems to get more opt-in rates and interest for the product I'm promoting verses just sending them to a regular opt-in page.

    There is nothing wrong with the old way.

    Like others have pointed out, you new way is just substitute ebook for videos.

    What others have been doing is sending traffic to a cpa offer right after they sign up.

      What I like to do is when someone signs up for my lead magnet, I won't try to sell them in the first 3 emails. Those are to spoil them rotten and make them a friend instead of a mere prospect.

      On the 1st email with their link to the 1st lead magnet I will send a welcome email and thank them for signing up and getting the lead magnet.

      Then, I will tell them about my brand and why they should follow me on Twitter, Facebook and Youtube and to white list me.

      At the end I will leave them a loop in the P.S. for another free gift/blog/software/etc. that they will get tomorrow and the next day. This could be sending them to a blog or whatever you choose.

      The 2nd email will describe my brand a bit more and introduce myself with a picture of me with family or friends or at work. Then I'll give them the link to their free gift. This time in the P.S. I'll tell them I don't want them to wait till tomorrow and give them another free gift or I might wait till the next day. It works both ways.

      So this email contains two gifts/blogs/sofware/case study/etc. whatever fits for that niche.

      The 3rd email will give them the last free gift and remind them to follow me on Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube and whatever other sites I want to send them to. Sometimes I include my Blog Page as well.

      This method delivers so much good will to them and at the same time introduces yourself as a friend instead of a salesmen though out the emails. So, there is no reason they won't want to buy from you soon.

      Unless of course they are tire kickers just looking for free gifts, but that's when monetizing your list comes in.

      When using this method, I like to use the Un-salesy techniques that Frank Kern uses

    Selling is what we do to make a living.. It all depends of the value you're giving away to your subscribers..

    Perhaps I can say the first method is like a hard selling while the second is more soft-sell.. But at least you're still giving some reasons why your subscribers need to buy your product: To solve their problems

      I do agree that the ebook version does still work and I stated that in my first post on this subject.

      As far as the ebook verses video, I guess it does depend on which market niche you are going for.

    If it's not Broke, don't fix it.

    It looks like you are 'over' delivering and if you feel good about that and like your way with Videos included, then do that.

    However, Free E-book does and still works. Nice and simple!

    It's your prerogative. Do what works for you.

      lol, my 3 day course is not there to make me rich. But I do like helping people, it's just my nature. Always wanted to be a teacher growing up, but after I seen how much they make, I took a better path. haha.

    I think both works fine.
    Maybe there are just some techniques that works over the other, but it doesn't mean that generally that technique will not work for a certain business. I mean it will not really be applicable to all.

    I found its about all about testing...

    The old method is not outdated I think its just a shift on the infomation provided.

    The old method was crappy plr books that offered no value and the new method is providing value and solving problems.

    It doesn't matter how old the method because the old marketing methods still work.

    I think it's just all about providing value and showing your list you care.
