Is Fiverr really a place where you spend only $5?

I have seen a lot of changes on Fiverr gigs' prices, incrementing for almost anything you can find there.

It's well known that Fiverr is used to be a famous source of outsourcing for many marketers that spend hundreds at it.
But, I have noticed that everyday more and more sellers are increasing prices for no reason, well, they have a good reason and it's because they know their time is valuable.

But is it not suppossed to be a place where everything cost just $5?
Don't misunderstand me. I think that's ok that some people charge what their work really worth but this is something that is killing Fiverr's own business as to my understanding.

First you have to pay the extra $0.50 per processing fee. Then sellers are selling less for $5 I.E. before, some fiverrs offered to make a video reviewing a website and it cost $5 and lasted 1 or 2 mins. Now they offer only a few seconds of video per gig and of course you need to purchase many gigs to get at least one minute of video .

The same for other gigs, like web maitenance, logo design, voiceover, etc.

While I think that charging more is good for sellers, Fiverr still keeps the 20%, plus the exceeding of processing fees tough.
The only that remain at the same are SEO gigs and article writing.
I am seeing less orders for some gigs and Fiverr being not a place where you can spend only $5 anymore.

    This is a great opportunity for people starting out.

    It's also a great opportunity for gig sellers who know their stuff is quality to get PAID what they're worth.

      Yeah me to. I feel fiverr is a fantastic place for new people to get their feet wet and feel what it is like to make a few bucks online. Why I suggest people to play with fiverr is first they deal with the traffic for the most part. They are the traffic source! Fiverr is a great place to learn about working with people. See you can't just make money online by trying to sell or talk to everyone. You have to know who your ideal prospect is and I feel fiverr helps show that. They did for me.

      What you do is simply research what is selling hot and just copy them and watch the sales come in! Spending maybe five, ten minutes per day I average close to a thousand bucks per month working with fiverr. I know people who make a lot, lot more. My main thing is affiliate marketing and becoming a super affiliate. Then its product creation time and train other affiliates to go sell my product for me.

      ok, goto go... My company just showed up. Time to go hang out on the back porch, drink some beer and cook up some swordfish I got from Adams today. Everybody be good...

    When Fiverr just started, it is an experiment of what people are willing to do for $5.

    As times goes by, some gigs who give QUALITY services started to get a lot of orders. Since his/her time is the limiting factor, he/she has to increase the price and harvest only those who know the quality of his/her work and willing to pay the extra.

    My wife hair dresser charged $50 for a hair cut, when he just start out it was only $10.

    I used the $5 to find out good designer for logo - usually new gig. If they give me "original" design then, there will be more job going their way from me.

    Many people tell me not to go to fiverr for logo design, but It work quite well for me.

    There are a ton of Fiverr-clone alternatives, but there's also a price-increasing trend across all of these kinds of service sites. Nothing you can do about it really - except use a different resource. I certainly wouldn't worry about Fiverr's bottom line, though.

    If they're losing business, that's their problem.

      You made a good point. But I think that if it loses business, they will get less traffic, less buyers, less money for sellers and sellers will lose interest on selling on Fiverr. Eventually this will leave marketers without this important resource where now they can get some cheap outsourcing.
      Despite the fact that its business model will be a failure at the end.

      When it started, it was a marketplace with 'the things people do for $5' and 'The place for people to share things they're willing to do for $5'
      Now it should be named 'the marketplace where you can buy services starting at $5.50'

      But as majority say, higher prices equal to better quality. Hopely that will be true.

    As you alluded to, it depends on the type of service/product you're after. Every seller must offer some basic gig for $5, though that's not to say it will meet your needs. In short, Fiverr is a marketplace; the prices are based on what buyers are willing to pay. Typically, the better quality (better reviewed) gigs can charge a higher price. The one exception, I think, can be found in sellers who are just starting out. You may have to dig around a bit and communicate with the seller beforehand, but this group is eager to establish themselves, often exceeding expectations with the goal of building a strong reputation.

      I use Fiverr regularly and accept that established sellers charge the going rate. That is the same price you would expect to pay on say Elance or Odesk.

      The new entrants is definitely where the value is.

      On one occasion I bought a gig from a seller for $5, same gig, same seller 3 months later, $50! Good for him, showed I can still pick winners from the ranks of the new sellers.

      Personally I believe that Fiverr is getting better but that is because it has become a mainstream freelance site.

    I think fiverr was created in a time, not so long ago, really, when everyone was in a race to the bottom. Well, not everyone, but the majority. In recent years that has changed a lot and the trend is now back towards the top.

      The site has become a bit of a pain for both buyers and sellers.

      In November 2014 they introduced a new 50s processing fee which equates to 10% of the average order. It might not seem like a lot, but the site is called Fiverr and not FiverrFifty which I've mentioned to their moderators with a view to them removing this unwanted fee.

      The gig extras has been in place for quite a while and a good facility for sellers to ramp up their offers and order value (something which I agree on and can be beneficial to both parties).

      Going forward, I don't think the Fiverr site is going in the right direction. Why? They don't listen to their customers or take on board what they're unhappy with and most of us know what happens to businesses when they do that!

        Personally, I have never had a bad experience on Fiverr and I have been using it for years. I read the reviews, communicate with the gigger beforehand and know exactly what I want while making sure that they do, also. Good communication goes a long way toward a successful outcome - in most things in life.

        I get top-flight ads for my radio station for $5 that save me a boatload of work and lend variety to my broadcasts. I have used VA's from Fiverr, a few InDesign and and AfterEffects folks, too. I'm certainly not concerned about paying a 50¢ premium on a $5 gig. But that's just me. lol

          I think you need to ask yourself, if you were excellent in your work would you do it for $5 bucks, well I mean for $4 bucks and in some cases It can take a few hours to accomplish it (for example a great Logo design).


          Probably you wouldn't´t work for a low rate. Even here in WF an affordable logo will cost you $15 - $20 , so for 3x - 4x times more.


          I think if the Professional is really good why not to pay him decently. I remember a few months ago I have ordered from a caricaturist to make one of my wife´s doll into an awesome caricature, this guy is a top grade professional and I have paid hid $25 with a bunch of extras... If I went to freelancer for example to the same level of quality it would cost me at least $200 so I think we need to pay these guys decently (at least).


          That's my view about it.

            Fiverr still remains the best and cheapest outsourcing platform. I got a video created for me on fiverr for just $5 while other freelancers changing $27 for that same service. Most time fiverr services are much more better because sellers are always afraid of bad reviews from buyers.

              Its obvious they are not being paid decently, if you read the Fiverr forum you will notice that.


              Its a question survival for many.
              From exploring people to paying them decently there is a big difference, but I believe people loves to explore others....

                If, as you suggest, it's a matter of survival for them, I am not exploiting them, rather I am helping them survive.

                Additionally, there are many people selling on Fiverr that are doing quite well for themselves and are way past 'survival' status.

                  well it depends in your definition of exploit. Helping to survive its quite different to be paid decently.




                  Sure there are some, below 5% of the pack that are quite well, but we are not talking about those I do believe.

                  Well Frank it depends a lot, I know many people that are happy to have a balance between their Professional wage and the time they have to be with their family, kids, etc.
                  Some of them believe they are in the right company with the right salary, etc...


                  So that´s not a black or white opinion.


                  About Fiverr i believe they should charge more for their work, who thinks its too expensive they can find another place to buy, simple as that.

                    What does it matter what you feel? They charge for their work what they want to charge. While the basic gig may be $5, the can add as many additional upsells as they want to raise the price as much as they want.

                    Let them run their lives the way that they see fit for themselves or just become a philanthropist and send them all a nice PayPal. :-)

        Depending on the gig I have no problem paying more than $5 for "premium" services. I could get the basic $5 gig, but the quality is meh, and I know it's still a whole lot cheaper than going alternate routes.

    I used Fiverr maybe 4 years ago and made a few sales, now everyone seems to be selling WSO's or $7 ebooks on how to make $1000's per month on Fiverr - all a bit ironic as generally it boils down to buy from seo clerks or similar for $1 sell for $4 nett. I still check out Fiverr if I need a voiceover or a quick design when we don't have time, sure there are upsells (we have them on WSO's just a different name i.e. OTO's) no different to off line businesses having "loss leaders" to get you into the store or pick up the phone. One thing to remember is that not all Fiverr sellers are in the USA or UK and $4 goes a long way, even here in Malaysia where the exchange rate is 3.7 for one dollar, so one Gig is worth maybe the equivalent of $18 in some countries it's probably quite easy to get a full time income from Fiverr, Odesk, etc ... Global Economy benefits some folks, Many large Corporations including many major Banks outsource customer service and telesales to where Labour is cheaper so many call centres were moved to Asia from the UK once VOIP became mainstream. Just my thoughts...

    My experience says that's hard to purchase an effective service with good quality for only $5.00. There are many gigs with people promising services that would easy costs more than $100.

    Although it was only $5, it's only for basic gigs. but for sellers who like to charge more for their services and time, they have the option to go above the $5 price. Which is not that bad at all.. You can't expect for the work to be done perfectly without buying a little more

      I think the sellers are also aware, the quality they provide.
      Usually, new sellers will sell at low prices.

      And top saler will sell upsell

    well fiverr is a great place and you would agree with me that after admin commissions working for just $4 can be too much stress, so there has to be a way for sellers to make something close to what they deserve for services one can get outside of fiverr for tens if not hundreds of dollars.

    It really depends on the gig in question. Some gigs are five bucks and you're done and others require $100+ especially for something like voiceover work done by a professional, voicing multiple hundreds of words.

    I think Fivers is evolving...

    WarriorPlus, for example, started with small fees, then with 2%, now is 3.9% fees.

    Smart Fiverr vendors use the art of the funnel... and simply upsell you for bigger and better.

    And the FIVERR company profits from high volume transactions, as many other companies do.

    Bought a logo on Fiverr for a fiver and it was great. I now go back to the same guy for my logos and pay him $20+ for his work.

    Just bought another gig from a seller for $30.

    Don't need to sell for a fiver if your work is good.

    I'm confident that they know what they're doing. Even eBay had to modify pricing and now offers shipping via ebay instead of paypal. Nevertheless... if Fiverr was killing its own business and didn't know it.... all they would have to do is contact me, pay me $20,000... and i'd turn things around for them.

    Simple.

    But unfortunately, they probably wouldn't call me.... and i wouldn't want them to.
