How much time a day do you spend on Internet Marketing?

I'm new to the Internet Marketing business and have recently joined the forums. I would like to know how much time a day on average that one spends on internet marketing, so I can plan my time accordingly when I get into full action 1 week from now.

I'm doing 8-10 hours at the current company I work at although before this I previously did 14-16 hour days on my own websites. You must invest A LOT of time to succeed.

Not just time, though, effective time.

I think the amount of time you spend really depends on the model you choose to make money with (some require more time than others -- like providing a service vs. blogging, where you can generate residual income) and the stage you're at. For example, when you are first starting out, you're going to be spending more time doing it because you're not only learning but laying the foundation for your business. It can also vary with the day. If you're a blogger and a new product is coming out in your niche, then you're obviously going to spend hours getting ready for something like that.

I am currently a teacher, I only have about 1 hour on working days for IM.

During holidays, I certainly spend more time (at least 3 hours, sometimes more than 6 hours!) to research or read internet marketing ebooks.

Actually it depends on individual. I do that for leisure and that is what I like to do, so I am willing to spend more time on it. .

I'd say I spend about 2 hours each day on internet marketing. About an hour each day looking for clients, answering queries and working on projects. The other hour I spend here with you guys

If you have any income, hire people. If you don't have any income, you need to spend as much time as your biz needs until you start making income. And then hire people at least part time.

Outsourcing is the best method if you have the funds to support it. If not it takes some time learning and get the money rolling in.

Practical implementation is important to learn internet marketing.Otherwise it is very difficult to understand it and observe results via it.

What ever you do, focus on quality rather than bulk of submissions.

I'm established but don't do PPC or affiliate marketing. I sell my own products & services.

It's been 4 years since I started. In a typical day I spend 4 hours doing fulfillment work, 4 hours directly marketing to and building my audience, and 2-4 hours learning and adjusting the content and funnels.

I live my business and have to make sure I spend time outside every day...it would be very easy to stay inside and keep going.

To everyone here: Thanks for all the replies!

At least I now know that my social life may be rather badly affected. I'll need to plan it in advance and tell my friends about what may happen.

IM will swallow your life if you let it. The key is to use Google Calendar or a similar app and block out your time. Fit the social stuff in there, but don't let it take over.

Remember you need to be clearly thinking for this stuff.

Three years ago I quit drinking because I was tired of hangovers and cloudy thought.

That's just one price you might have to pay.

My first thought would be figure out "Why" you are wanting to do internet marketing..What are your goals, and when would you like to reach them?

Is it because you want to make a extra income online $500 to $1000 a month??

Or is it because you want to create a full time income and get rid of your job??

What ever your "Why" is, eventually will determine how many hours a day you devote to reaching your goals and dreams.

And when would you like to reach your goals, will also have a determination of how much time you devote to getting there.

Everyone's time they put in, is always in accordance with what they want and are working for. So it will be different for each person.

And as you become more experienced and proficient in your marketing task, you will learn how to manage your time better and better.

Making list, a to do list each day, and a time frame for your task, is a great way to keep your life balanced..It is easy otherwise to spend time doing things that are not taking you closer to your goals.

Right now I could spend 0 hours a day and still make several thousand a month, but I'm not the "lay around on the beach" type and I enjoy working. Some days I'll spend all day and night setting something new up, but most days fall somewhere in the range of 3 to 9 hours. It just depends on how long I feel like working.

Now, when I was struggling to make a living online, I would work 12 to 14 hours a day, every day, but I have no kids and I could afford to throw myself at IM, pedal to the metal.

Actually it depends on your work. Such as I have been working in this field since 2011 till today. I have a local job, so I give 5 to 6 hours per day. After completing my daily Job, then I start my IM work. Many people who work here as a full time worker on the other hand many people work here at a part time work & give 1 or 2 or 4 hours per day. You have to allocate your time, how much time, you would like to spend for the IM work. Thanks a lot.

As much time as it takes to get what needs to get done, done.

One day I might spend 10 hours and another 4 and yet another 2. Bet even when everything is done in a couple of hours I might create some content and bank it for a time when I really need it but don't have time to create it. If you know what I mean.

The amount of time I or anyone else here spends is totally irrelevant to your situation. You need to take the time YOU need, not the time we need.

When I first started 7 years back I was clocking 10-12 hours/day, Mon-Fri. Weekends maybe 2-3 hours so I could spend time with my then-newborn daughter and husband. Now that I have products that sell and a customer base to sell them to, I spend more like 3-5 hours/day, Mon-Fri. My time is spent sending emails to my list, marketing to get new customers, and creating/improving products. We have 2 kids now so weekends are family time and I rarely work at all on the weekends anymore, unless it's to send a quick email or check in on social media. IM can definitely be time-consuming in the beginning but the pay-off in the end, both in terms of finances and time freedom, is well worth it in my opinion.

It's hard to gauge sometimes. I sit in front of the computer for at least 16 hours a day usually.

    10am - 1pm is family time
1pm - 3pm is system checks and reading revenue reports
3pm - 5pm I'm getting everything ready for my guys. Giving them accounts, domains, cards ect. Reviewing their work from the previous day, and handing that off to someone else.
5pm-8pm is FB account check. Find out which ones are banned, still warming, have hit threshold ect. Mark them and divide them up accordingly.
8pm - 3am I focus on a lot of different things. Mainly optimizing ads and verifying everything is running smoothly.

Sometimes I mess around a little bit outside of that schedule, but for the most part I try to keep with it. If I get distracted easily, I'll be up until 6am finishing everything.

I love the work that I do, and it hasn't always been like this. I recently decided to scale our affiliate side as much as possible, so I'm putting in a lot more work getting everyone ready and getting all the new freelancers I hired trained.

It all comes down to what one really defines 'spending time' on IM

For example, I'm at the comp for a good chunk 'o time...

But it's not always necessarily work.

(or maybe it just doesn't feel that way to me)

I've got a bunch of projects going at one time. Probably too many. So, I maintain a "to do" list of updates I need to make, posts I need to write, social activities to engage in, videos to record, etc.

A lot of this came from my project management background and using a Work Breakdown Structure. So, I don't focus on spending a certain block of time, but rather accomplishing tasks and goals. My daily goal is to scratch off two items from my to do list. Sometimes it takes 4 hours, sometimes it takes 30 minutes.

I usually look through the list and choose something that I will enjoy doing. Some days I feel like recording a video or screen capture, so I do that. Some days I feel like writing, so I do that instead. Graphics work, email campaigns, etc.

I try to allocate 2-3 hours a day on the side of my regular 9-5.

I say work as many hours as you can, as often as you can.

Some people here probably pull all nighters fairly regularly and others and hour or less. It really depends on the person and their situation, but more is definitely better than less.

    I agree.

For the sake of conversation: When I first started, I rarely did anything else. Once I started to make money I was quickly addicted. I went many times on jags of 30-40 hours. I couldn't lay it down. I couldn't drink a whole cup of coffee without thinking of something else I could do.

Now I spend very little time actually building. Especially in the Summer. It's mostly maintenance mode and harassing people here on the forum.
