What Can You Do TODAY to Make Yourself Better at Internet Marketing?

I woke up about 6:30 this morning for no particular reason and thought, “Darn, if I get to work soon, I could have the whole afternoon to goof off or do something with the kids.” But then I goofed around on social media for 30 minutes, watched the end of a movie I’ve been meaning to get to, and then went for a walk with my dog as the sun peeked up over the horizon.

It’s 8:27 AM as I type this and here I am on a forum…which means my three hour head start for the day is quickly disappearing.

And while it was a nice walk this morning in the cool South Carolina air, there are a million little things I could have been doing instead. Posting a blog on my website. Answering emails and following up with potential clients. Networking with local business owners on social media. Finding a few more quality backlinks to my website. Reading authority blogs on new tips and tricks. The list of things I could have done is almost endless.

But then again, I am human after all, and I am as good at wasting time as anyone else. Now, don’t get me wrong…I do work 12-15 hour days frequently...too frequently, in fact. But the reason I have to work so hard now is because I’m not getting any younger, and the things I’m doing today are tasks that should have been completed years ago.

Because understand this...time is cumulative. If you waste an hour today goofing off and you do the same thing tomorrow, then you’re losing over a full day’s productivity once a month. Every two and a half years, you throw away a full month's worth of time by “taking it easy”. By the time you're in your 40's and 50's, you'll have wasted almost a decade that you'll desperately want back.

Time resets for no one though- either you take advantage of it or you don't.

So here’s my question to you- what are you going to do TODAY to make yourself more successful in Internet Marketing? I’m asking because you’re not getting any younger either. We both know that just doing what we normally do is not going to make us superstars within our professions.

So what can you do right now, today, to get you one step closer to your goal?

Crikey, you are obviously a morning person, I don't function before 10am.

I try to do LESS to make myself better.

Good topic. I actually need to sleep more, I think, along with tightening up some other things. I've got a bad habit of slogging through projects to the point that I can't think and then I sleep for 2-3 hours and go again. I've found myself many times nodding off as I type and then having to go back and fix errors. Or I wind up clicking things I shouldn't be clicking. It's been so bad in the past that I've worked my tail off for 3 days but really didn't accomplish anything because of sleep deprivation.

Of course, there are other things that I'm constantly adjusting and improving on too. Not perfect yet.

I do the exact same thing....I'll work until I'm exhausted, not get enough sleep, and then drag for days on end because I'm not taking care of myself. So finding the right balance between work and play is essential.

    kk,
I just want to pop in and say it is very refreshing to see fellow Warrior's come and write good prose like you just did

It's unfortunately a lost Art in today's society.

i.e Kids writing one word sentences instead of complete paragraphs and relying on Tablets to their homework instead of writing long hand with a pen and paper.

I wish we would see more of this here in the Forum.

In regards to your question at the end ? Well, actually I think I have answered it with my observation above...
and that is always trying to communicate effectively and always trying to improve in that area

3-4 hours of focused work everyday is much better than doing something for the whole day and losing the momentum next day.

I discovered a long time ago that being a business owner online afforded me an advantage that most "hometown" business owners would never know.

I learned that with virtual business an owner could set up systems and automations that would act like employees helping me to run my business; yet, I didn't have to pay these robots or give them time off.

Of course every business is different. Still, I am amazed at all the ways an online business owner can reduce his own workload and set up automatic systems that will greatly reduce the need for the owner's hands-on time.

Auto-responders, sales funnels, even dynamic web intelligence, and all kinds of other systems can be set up to lead a potential prospect through a business and sell/transact/deliver products and services while the owner is immersed in something totally apart from his "store."

There is a boat load of wonderful public domain content available and waiting to be used. There is trainloads of graphics, art, music and other "creatives" that can be reasonably "licensed" for a business use.

Really, whatever you need for your business is already out there somewhere waiting to be packaged in a unique way and offered to the general public for consumption.

So, in answer to your direct question, "What can you do today to make yourself better at Internet marketing?" . . . my answer would be to adopt systems in your business that will function to free up your business execution time so that you can focus your effort on interacting with people, searching for new ideas, and finding/creating new income streams. Understand that all the content, graphics, and other creative output you could ever want (and the quality can be much better than you could create yourself) is just waiting for you to discover and use.

Get good at working smarter in your business.

The very best to all of you,

          Steve

I would try and outsource as much as possible the "outsourcable" stuff, for example answering emails (if these are support requests, try a VA or Zendesk), or backlinking (again a VA or a reputable backlinking service). I guess you can't be replaced in prospecting clients, so you might concentrate on that for the best time/value ratio.

As for productivity, i use two apps on my iPhone which really "train" me and put me back on track:

30/30 task manager (awesome, iPhone only as far as i know)

Wunderlist - great for brain dump and reminders, both iPhone and android

So in short - outsource and really try to use productivity tools for what you don't outsource, that works for me.

    Hope this helps.

It's going to be the first really gorgeous day of the year, here - today. I'm getting in my new BMW convertible, driving down to Wildwood to sit on the boardwalk and relax for an hour or so. Then I'm going to head over to Maui's Dog House for an Italian dog, the best French fries in NJ and a couple ice cold bottles of Yuengling. I'll shoot the breeze with a few locals for a spell before getting back in the car and cruising home. I plan to put the world of IM as far out of my mind as is humanly possible.

There is more to life than work. Everything I neglected today will still be there when I wake up, tomorrow. I'll deal with it, then.

I am oh, so, looking forward to today. lol

      Cheers. - Frank

P.S. Don't berate me. I worked all day, yesterday. :-)

        Nice Frank.

I just go back from Mickey D's myself where I consumed to large glasses of high octane Ice Tea !I

Sat in there for about 30 minutes reading last weeks SI with Mayweather on the front and watching the morning crowd begrudgingly walk in for their regular coffee and biscuits

They changed the price of Ice Tea there from $1.09 to $1.29 today.

One really mean looking woman came in and had her $1.09 ready to get her's. When she got to the counter and they told her it was $1.29 she got very upset and said she would have to go back to her car to get the extra change.

I was filling up my second cup of tea and she went right by me and within 2 feet from me defiantly yelled sh@t real loud for the inconvenience directed towards her

Everyone around just gave a befuddled sigh at this crazy woman.

Anyway, Iam still on a caffeine rush , and I have to concur there is more to Life than work.

I feel like Superman about right now but I hope I don't bottom out too bad when this Caffeine makes its exit from my body

We all have our drug of choice. Mine's Jamaican Blue Mountain. One cup per day is my legal limit, though.

The only way to fend that off is to do what I do. I don't just feel like I'm Superman, I actually believe I'm Superman - at least from the neck, up. :-)

Enjoy your day and your life.

    For me it is learning.

I have finished most of my content for my website. I need to do some edits and spell checks, plus make some graphics.

Then it all a huge learning curve. I need to spend as much time as I can here learning from the more knowledgable and make time to watch a few youtue videos I have bookmarked.

I do the EXACT same thing on a daily basis. It really does get old, doesn't it? We keep saying, "I'll do it tomorrow....I'll set aside next Tuesday....I'll work on it this summer..." The excuses go on and on.

I started writing a fantasy about 3 years ago that I actually thought was pretty darn good (and I am very hard on my own writing, so I know it was good). About 3/4 of the way through though, I got stuck...I knew the ending cold and I could practically recite how I would write the last 6-8 chapters, but I probably needed 10k words to get from where I was in the story to where I would start the final scenes. And that's where I stopped...just like that.

Even though we have to pay the bills and take care of our families, success will never come if we can't get focused on the bigger projects. I think I'll dig that old book out this afternoon and try to figure something out.

Focus on the essentials of your business. For me its traffic, engagement leading to conversions and product creation.

Every action should be linked to your core business elements. Either enhancing your processes or learning further techniques to make them better.

Never stray from your core business fundamentals and your focus will sharpen.

    All the best

Probably get more rest, so that i can wake up tomorrow and do the same marketing that i do everyday. As long as my marketing gets done everyday, and i get it knocked out the way very early in the morning... i get to chill for the rest of the day and do whatever i want.

Like Ron Legrand says, "The less i do, the more i make." I understand what that means now.
