Any Help Would Be Appreciated - 21 y.o Needing Advice/Guidance!

Hey everyone,

I recently discovered this website and after reading through a few threads it looks a great place to start.

I'll start with a little bit about me -

So I'm a 21 year old currently studying a Computing course at university. I've spent the last year working at a blue chip I.T company in I.T security. I'm definitely interested in security however something deep inside me knows that being an entrepreneur is my thing... Since being at school I've always been known as the "wheeler dealer (lol)" as I loved making a bit of money here and there. I'm still buying/selling things a little at the moment however opportunities have dried out hence why I'm here!

Before my time at the company I always believed my motivation was money. However I've noticed that having a salary does not motivate me in the slightest. Potentially earning more each month does. (If that makes sense? - e.g more work = more money) which makes me think working for myself is the best option.

I've got an A level in Business and feel as though I understand how a business would work however I have a few problems that I feel "limit" me in terms of taking the plunge...

1. I know nobody that owns their own business.
2. I'm very tech-savvy (can code websites etc) however not up to date with opportunities to make money online!

It's really hard to explain... it can be quite frustrating not knowing where to start/who to talk to. I guess I'm looking for someone to mentor/guide me? - Or even if someone can point me to books/websites to help me gain the required knowledge?

Apologies for the long post. Hope someone can help,

Cheers guys!

Connor

I believe you should focus on learning direct response marketing basics -- the fundamentals.

Because they didn't just teach 'copywriting' they taught how to get leads, build mailing lists, sell products, break-even, sell back end products.

And other than that, just get started, learn as you go and supplement it with Direct Response reading.

The quickest way to learn is without doubt doing.

Plus you'll know what works and what doesn't work.

Then, if you need help you won't just be looking for a mentor. You'll be looking for a specific mentor who can help with your specific problem and you'll still be moving in the same direction.

    Greetings,

Every bit of information that you seek has already been posted on this forum, hundreds of times. Learn to properly utilize the 'search' functions to drill down to the specific information you seek on particular topics. Then, after digesting that information, ask specific questions on specific topics.

People are more interested in assisting those that have at least invested some of their own time and energy, rather than those who expect that others should be the ones to do so.

Most people here are busy building their own futures and usually the people that will drone on and on about what you should be doing are those that have an abundance of time due to the fact that they are not doing anything on their own. There are exceptions of course, but like I stated, showing some initiative of your own before asking others to invest in you will garner you more helpful results.

    Cheers. - Frank

    Hi Connor,

You certainly have the credentials to do well as a digital entrepreneur. I took a similar route to yourself - although in my case, we're talking a shade over 2 decades ago. Private school, GCSEs, A-Levels (among them, Business A-Level, too), and then on to several degrees in areas of business finance, economics, and law. Over the years, it's served me extremely well. You don't need such education to succeed, one of the beauties of working online, but it doesn't half help.

Here's what I suggest you do:

    1. Discover the business models. Have a read around WF and get a feel for good, "working" business models, making a note of each.

    2. Decide which you can implement. Based on your startup cash (low, zero, or more), and based on your unique skillset and experience, isolate the models that you feel you can either pull off now, or learn to pull off with further research.

    3. Research the isolated models. Using the advanced search feature here on WF, and of course Google, dig into those models. Learn just enough to achieve the next step coming up.

    4. Pick a model. At this stage you can either go it alone, learning as much about it on your own, or you can hire a relevant coach to help you learn, implement, and earn money with it.

That's a safe approach. Don't just buy a product or hire a coach/ mentor. Reason being: you may not actually like or be any good at the subject. Using the above ensures that you can either save your money entirely, or pay for the "right" knowledge. Either way, you'll be on your way to developing a solid home business.

I wish you all the best. You've brought back some good memories of when I was 21 - which is why I gave you a thanks.

    Cheers,

    Tom

      Hi mate,

Thanks a lot for replying back to me. I'll definitely have a watch of that video and have a research. I think the problem is more that I don't have knowledge of the area... so fingers crossed things will become clearer after having a watch/read! - Thanks again.

      Hi Al,

Ahh interesting, I'll definitely read into direct response... to be honest the marketing side is fairly new to me. I think at the moment I'm going to read up as much as possible before taking the plunge so thanks for that, much appreciated!!

PM me if your interested and I'll share with more info in my success and also give to my mentors info. To be upfront with you. This is not a cheap way to go. However, spinning your wheels and wasting money for 15 years was not the cheap route either. Best of Luck Bro!
      Hey WarGun,

Ahhhh I see! - Yeah my experience with buying/selling wasn't too great... it allowed me to make a bit on the side whilst at university though which was handy. For a while I went through a phase of buying "miss-priced" items and selling them on for a healthy profit which worked well.. but they are rare to come by!

Thanks for the reply too - I will definitely take you up on that offer of messaging you, would be great to have a chat

      Hi Frank.

I appreciate the lessons on how to use a search bar. All jokes aside... the main reason I posted a thread was due to me not really knowing what I want... if that makes sense.

Due to my lack of knowledge/experience I'm not sure what I would search for... and so far the replies from some people have helped me out.

      Hey Tom,

Ahhh nice, that is fairly similar! - It's great to see someone doing well in this area then... early into my degree I always thought I had made the wrong choice however it looks as though its not too important!

Thanks a lot for the in-depth message.. I will definitely have a read through this forum and see what opportunities are available - Fortunately I have money set aside for something like this (It was always my plan... was just whether I would finally "Do" instead of "think" about it).

Fingers crossed I'll be posting on this forum in a few months time knowing what I'm reading/talking about haha! - Thanks again.

Thank you to everyone that has taken their time to reply - much appreciated!!

Oh, so basically you are looking for 'career counseling.' Well, I offer that type of advice, but I charge for it.

If I worked for free, how much would you value my work-product? :-)

None of this has anything to do with making money on the internet. It's a totally different beast. I haven't done offline marketing in a while (except for direct mail and postcards to backend customers), but i hope your professors haven't taught you theory in business. If anything, they shouldn't even be working at the university. They should be the one's who already have their own lucrative business!!!

You have to start from scratch. This is not a business of sheer intelligence. It's more hard-work and dedication, and listening to people who have been in your shoes, and can lead you into the right direction.

Hi Connor! Sounds like you've got the confidence and determination to be a wealthy entrepreneur.
In addition to the awesome advice you've already received, I'd tentatively like to suggest that you look for a mentor. There are probably hundreds participating in the Warrior Forum, so use the search box. Please don't make the mistake I made --- I saw that lots of people were making lots of money on the Internet, and I thought I could do likewise. I was wrong.
Finally, humbled and broke, I realized I wasn't going to get anywhere without a mentor, someone to tell me what to do, and show me how to do it.
Yeah, sure, mentors charge fees for their coaching, but the amount you pay is only peanuts compared to what you could make by following their advice. Good luck in all your online ventures.
    Keep smiling!

      Hey Cherrytom,

Thanks a lot for replying. Yes I totally agree that something like a mentor will work wonders... I currently have a mentor for cyber security and it has worked wonders so will definitely have a look at it - I think I might try find a part-time job working for a small company so I can grasp a feel for how a business operates/works. The company I work for at the moment is pushing 400k+ employee's so i'll never gain that knowledge here haha.

Thanks for the input, much appreciated
