According to me, most of the people like to work online, because it is easy to do work here, one can work from anywhere, even one can work while, he is in the car, train or in the transport. One can work anytime, there is no time limitation. No work load no, boss pressure. So it is the good work for skilled people. Thank you very much.

I want to build a business. Not just make money, but do something that contributes to society - something that will still be impacting lives after I'm gone, and do something meaningful with my life.

I want to value ethics and helping people - one of those people who sets a new standard for the entire industry, and focus on creating a truly perfect experiences for my users, as I learn and grow myself.

You can make all the money in the world, but it's all gone the time of your death, and even if it helps a few hundred ppl get rich, you've still done very little with your life.

A lot of people are looking to supplement their income and some are still unemployed. The recession was tough on many, and many are still trying to recover financially.

Some people believe ALL internet marketing is a scam. As a matter of fact, wouldn't be surprised if it was the majority. Some people just cannot fathom the fact people would actually pay money for a book that "doesn't even exist".

I think it's because more and more people are realizing the average 9-to-5 job does little more than one month to the next. The internet not only allows you to generate residual income and multiple streams of it but allows you to work around your own schedule. Whatever you do, you can still find time to work on the 'net. It also provides you with the opportunity to own your own business. People who own their own businesses have more control over their financial futures.

Let me ask you . . . why in the world would anyone want to climb Mt. Everest?

Why would they want to risk their life, spend thousands of dollars, waste weeks of time, and physically abuse themselves just so they can freeze their bazoombas off and brag that they've stood at the top of the world?

I can't think of many things I'd rather not do!

Still . . .

If it floats your boat, if it presents the ultimate challenge, if it is the fulfillment of a life-long dream, or allows you to feel giddy about yourself, why not go for it?

A dream, a challenge, a goal, a test, a means to an end . . . it doesn't really matter why . . . making money online to me is an expression of one's creativity and passion and it's an easy and harmless way to "work" for yourself doing the things you like.

I guess your looking for purpose!!!
For me it was about spending more time with my family. Making money online is not as easy as it is sold to be. Most internet marketers making 6 and 7 figures online busted the hind ends to get there. For them its as easy as sending an email.

For me its Freedom. I think the majority of people that come to IM and aren't successful see it as something that would have been "easy" to do and didn't realize how much work is really involved.

People want to make money online because they want to make more so that they can eventually escape the rat race. They don't want to trade hours for dollars and when they go online for the first time, they will buy anything that will teach them how to succeed online and earn money.

Some people want to:

Quit their job
Have money for a car payment
Have money to pay their bills and mortgage.
Being self employed.

At the end of the day, everyone has their OWN reasons.

To support my husband as much as possible while being a stay-at-home mother to my child. Also, I have something called peripheral neuropathy and working online makes me feel good about myself. It's been awhile since I have gone outside

Believe me, people looking at you while you are walking slowly outside is not good for an individual's self esteem.

I am blessed to have an online life.

People are inherently selfish. Dislike that all you want, but it's not changing anytime soon.

For me, I don't like people telling me what to do. I worked for other people for a long time, and hated every minute of it. Running my own business, I get to do what I want to do, when I want to do it. (Yes, there are a handful of things that have to be done, but still, overall, the freedom is intoxicating.)

The main reason is money. What differentiates the successful from the rest, however, is the passion. I personally stumbled on IM, and my reason was defined very well by my mentor. That makes the whole difference! If you approach IM in the right way, you can only grow.

Thanks everyone. Some great answers and insight.

So would it be fair to say that the main root reasons are:
- You want to get out of the rat race. (quit job, more freedom, 2nd income, etc)
- You can't do a regular job. (stay at home mom, disability, etc)
- The challenge of running your own business
Have I missed any? Are there any more root causes that cause enough pain for you, that you want to look to the internet for an income?

For some it's passion, for some it's freedom, for some it's necessity (take stay at home parents, it's so much better to work from home and be with your kid 24/7, rather than have a babysitter raise him).

Lot of reasons: Time freedom from a job which also costs money to commute to work, eat breakfast and lunch around a work schedule, and freedom from the stress that creates - which also adds to higher healthcare costs. There's also the spirit of entrepreneurship. Consider retirees who are no longer making ends meat and therefore are looking to build something online. The reasons are endless.

Hi,

I'm new here although I joined some time back in 2014 but I've never really joined in the discussions. My reason is my wage is really low in my country and I wanted a second stream of income, I didn't want to sit on my as* and complain that life's hard for me, I really want to make it :-(

I do not necessarily think for most people it is about the Money. For me at least, it was always about the freedom that money could bring to enable me to pursue those things that really mattered in my Life.

And most of them are free. i.e. spending more time with family, helping others etc..etc..

I agree with "freedom". You can work from anywhere. You're free to give yourself a raise by working harder or smarter. You can take a week off when your new grandson is born

You choose who you want to work with and who not to work with again. You can wear shorts and a t-shirt every day.

I agree the draw to internet marketing is mainly freedom and the ability to leverage the internet to have access to a larger portion of the population. I think one of the major draw backs of internet marketing are the promises of easy riches.

Well the cost of offline marketing/business is HUGE compared to online marketing. I'm talking about before you even launch the offline campaign.

Online is cheap and easily accessible - for buyers and sellers. And with sites like Amazon and Ebay, who wouldn't want to make money with these companies. What is a company offline that you know like these 2, that you can make money with so easily - and so fast? Catch my drift?
