Increasing organic traffic of an online shopping site-HOW??

Hello guys

I am in a trble now. As i have only 1 year experience in online marketing and i am managing an online shopping site now, my seniors are asking for more organic visits rather than paid.

We have almost 3-4 keywords listed in the first page of our targeted country now. But it seems we are not getting much traffic through that. As i have checked in Google keyword planner most of the keywords have a limited number of visits per month. Like 10-20. Then how can i select a proper keyword that can bring better results.

I sincerely apologize if the same topic has discussed here before. The forum seems to b like a friend to me now. If i ever have a doubt i always discuss it here. i hope you guys understand. I request your suggestions here.

    For that you need to select keywords which has high traffic with low search volume. Would help in ranking as well as increasing organic visits to the website.

      I never, ever, ever understood this stuff. Can you explain how a keyword can have a high traffic volume with a low search volume? How does that even work?

      How does keyword (in a search engine) have traffic without being searched? And wouldn't one want a keyword with a high search volume -- not a low one?

      I just don't get it.

    Hi, I am working a online shopping website every thing is alright, traffic increasing "organic, over all, paid campaign" but my referral traffic is lose day by day what can i do? I change my working strategy so traffic grow up for few day then fall down & it's continuously having

      I'm guessing that your site is just "selling" something. No customer engagement, no reason for sharing, no reason to come back, no reason to have others return or bookmark.

      Maybe it's not even appealing to the visitors you do get with PPC.

      I'd suggest conducting a survey once they try to navigate away and ask them (in return for a free gift) what they liked and did not like about your site, product, then pricing.

      At least with this you'd get an email (to send them coupons and sales announcements), and some valuable data that can change the numbers of visitors and return visits to your website.

        This is some of the best advice I've seen in some time. You can get several experienced marketers giving you advice that has worked for them but for what ever reason does not for you. Finding out from the people who were interested enough to come to your site (your target market) what they found wrong or lacking about your site is gold. That information more than anything else will help you fix what's not converting.

        It does not matter where you get your traffic from. It's conversion that is critical. Once you have conversion nailed, then you start going for more traffic.

    the situation is understandable, rarely you can find similar forum with friendly environment like WF..

    In this case, you must do lots of content marketing, no other way to do it.. after having the content created then u must optimize it.

    For this case, you can do SEO for article/ video marketing in youtube.

    You can not simply get more visitors through Google by finding awesome keywords these days. We used to get 10s of thousands a day on irrelevant keywords with no competition pre 2010, but it doesn't work like that now. Now it seems that authority is the key to SEO success, and I am not sure exactly how one gets "authority". Many will tell you back links, and they may be right, but we have never sought out back links for fear of penalties, and legitimate organic do follow back links are few and far between.

    We expand through advertising and social media. There is always a burst of traffic after we post new items, so I guess posting more often would mean more visitors.

    There is no easy way to expand, you need to expand and increase your efforts... and most importantly hold on to the customers you do get... this is also becoming more difficult as e-mail systems are making it hard and harder to e-mail your customers...

    I would suggest making everything on your website as completely relevant as possible so you don't get the wrong types of visitors, they are a waste of what Google allows to visit you. We spent all of last year increasing relevance and conversions, that pretty much doubled last years profits, even though traffic actually decreased.

    In this case, I suggest you 3 things:

    1) Add more and more products/content to your website. If you don't have more products to add, then attach a blog with your website and keep on adding related high quality content. This will help you in increasing organic traffic to your website.

    2) Facebook fan page works great for local traffic. Try promoting your FB page. You can buy LIKES by advertising on FB at really cheap price. Grow your FB audience and post regularly to your FB page to engage your followers. This will give you a new steady stream of traffic at very low cost.

    3) Don't forget to make and grow your email list. Use popups to get email addresses of your visitors. Offer them some incentive like 10% off or Free shipping when they subscribe to your email list. Keep in touch with your subscribers and send them weekly, bi-weekly or daily emails about latest products, promotions, sales or related tips etc. This will give you another stream of free traffic.

    Every keyword has a different level of popularity and frequency of searches.

    You can try some tools to find some keywords with a higher search volume:

    KeywordShitter - Type in a keyword and it will spit out a long list of related keywords including longtails.

    Keywords Everywhere - Run your list through this and sort it by search volume.

    Keyword Revealer - Choose a keyword you like after you run your list and enter it into Keyword Revealer to get a competition score.

    You can then change your product titles and descriptions and write articles based on keywords you find.

    Analyze your On and Off page SEO and check your keyword density, meta descriptions, image ALT tags, <H> Tags and length of your content.

    Increase your Social Media presence if you haven't already and utilize different platforms. I would also look into Reddit and Quora for bringing in some more traffic too.
