Hi,
I have a page which is not ranking very well, but not too bad also, it's somehow on google page 4/5. It's an important keyword for me, so I was wondering what to do? The content is little short, about 1000 words. Make a new page with the same keyword or rework this page itself or may be create a new page with similar keywords and link them? In case you feel I should rework the page, how ensure that it will be indexed by google before Christmas? I would appreciate any advice

  • Honestly, you need to do both- rewrite the page so the text is better written on the same URL, then write a few blogs on the same topic linking to the page as well. DO NOT delete the page and start over though; you do not want to lose the natural weight it has in the top 50 or its history with Google already. Once a page is indexed, you really don't want to mess with it unless you have to (and in this case, you probably have to). Then again, you can always start with the blogs first, see what happens and then edit the post some next week.

The only other advice I can give is to add additional photos (and label them), make sure you've completely filled out the meta and double-check that you've met all the other guidelines that Google looks for. It's ultimately the little things that count in the top 50 so make sure you've hit all of them.

  • Hi,
I would suggest to do SEO activities related to the page so that there will be scope to get achieve higher page rank. And also rewrite the content to make the page more interesting. I would also recommend to write some blogs and related to the page. You can even use PPC services and most importantly Social Media.

    • @KK075 & Hemanth Malli,
thanks, sorry, I have one doubt. Do you mean by "writing blogs" external from my site or within my site?

  • You should have posted this in the SEO forum.

  • I would never rely on SEO for traffic. Too many people try this and fail.

If you want real results, look into paid ads like pay per click.

  • Yes, you should do both.

But you'd take some time to see the results. I'll suggest you start a new one and rank them.
  • I would agree, you need to do both. I would start building more high PR back links. Page 4 and 5 is not bad, it shows you are making progress. Just keep going and you will soon get to where you want to be.
  • Like the Bible says (roughly), "Don't become overly-righteous. This is how people destroy themselves"

    (I did say roughly).

Don't twitter your life away trying to figure out SEO. Go for the money pile easily. Run some ads, do lots of paid advertising, and test what works best for making money in your business. And try some other free traffic generation techniques. Start with paid first to see if it has any chance in hell of succeeding. If it's a success, replicate in every marketing area online.

Leave the page/text alone. You're already indexed & showing up for the keyword. You're not ranked #1 but Google has already associated the page with the keyword.

Figure out If you have any other internal pages that are currently ranking for similar keywords, then go back to those old established internal pages & add internal links pointing to the page you're trying to rank.

Don't be impatient, the page won't move in the SERPs until Google re-indexes the pages with the links. Assumes you have some other established pages on the domain.

    Do the easy stuff first.
