Google Webmaster tools position wrong

I've just looked at the new webmaster tools for my site and for one of the main keywords I'm targeting it says it's been around 50-70 most of the month but occasionally up at position 1, it's obviously a glitch as I've never been anywhere near number one and it's more likely that it was nowhere in the search at all.

Any ideas what's going on here?

I can't look at the attachment for some reason, any chance it could be referrer spam?

I've hosted the screenshot on one of my sites so you should now be able to see it. Hopefully that'll help

The average position that WMT reports is always skewed. The numbers they report are your average position when your site is shown.

The problem with this is that with personalized rankings being served, how your website appears to one user can be vastly different than how it appears to another user based on previous browsing history, locale, etc.

Your best bet to follow your overall rankings accurately is to use a 3rd party rank tracker.
