Does anyone know how to add one of those "money counters" like Pat Flynn from Smart Passive Income?

I wasn't sure where to ask this question, but I figured since most of the people here are in the MMO niche, that someone would know how to add a money counter thingy to their website.

If you're not sure what I'm talking about, just click on the link to his site to see what I mean.

Thanks!

BKelly301... I had a quick look at Pat Flynn SPI WP Blog Site.

Basically the "money counter thingy" you refer to and shown as -- Last Month's Earnings + $153,397.47 + Click to see Income Reports -- are in fact all 'Static HTML Elements' embedded within the Black colored Header Background Area!

Note: No WP Plugin is been utilized at all!

Pat Flynn uses one of the most powerful WordPress themes available, which affords him total template control without having to mess with the HTML/CSS codes.

His WP Theme of choice is --Thesis 2 -- which allows him to have total template control via their patent-pending visual template editor!

I believe he most likely created and named his own customized 'Thesis Skin' which in the underlying code is clearly notated as... thesis/skins/spi

It's not so much about the theme. He had his theme custom coded. That counter is a custom function/design as well.

It won't matter what theme you're using, that can be either hard-coded into your file or even be coded in as a custom widget.

If you can't code it yourself, you'll have to hire someone to build it for you, which shouldn't be such a big job for most developers.

      Thanks for the replies!

Ya I use Thesis 2 for all of my websites. I was just wondering if anyone has a reference or anything that can point me to how I may add that code. I'm sure it's a very simple snippet of code, but I'm just not sure what exactly that snippet is.

No one here (unless you can find the actual coder) can tell you whether he is editing that manually every month or if there is indeed code on his server that generates the monthly sales information displayed. The source code of the web page often gives certain "hints", but little else.

IF code were used... no one can "point" you to how to add that code simply because it would obviously be custom coded to access HIS sales data. That data might come from 1) a simple text file on his server that he manually updates once per month, 2) his own database, 3) RSS feeds or an API from product merchants that he recommends, and/or 4) any combination of those.

That said... if you have an automated way to access/provide your own sales data, you could have a widget or plugin written to access that information and have it displayed on your own site - but it would be a custom development effort.

    Thanks again everyone!

What I'm looking for is much simpler though. I am planning on manually updating the money counter thing myself every day (or whenever I feel like updating it). I was just looking for a snippet of html and/or CSS code (or a wordpress plugin of course) that would provide me with that image of a counter (or a similar image).

I figured that this would be the place to ask this question since so many people are in the MMO niche. I figured that someone here has a little counter image on their site and could provide me with how they did it.

    Thanks all!

Sid Hale has added some excellent insights as to the various ways Pat Flynn may have gone about adding his blog header 'Earnings Amount Statement' and I commend him for his informative input!

      >>> Unfortunately no one has actually given you a easy definite solution <<<

So here's what I would do moving forward.

Step 1. Go to Pat Flynn's Smart Passive Income Blog — SmartPassiveIncome.com

Step 2. Open up you favorite screen capture software and do a 'Capture Rectangular Area' of the header area only.

...Choose full width or alternatively just the right hand half of the header area, capture and save to jpeg or png file.

Step 3. Since you already mentioned that... "Ya I use Thesis 2 for all of my websites" then simply send an email to diythemes@gmail.com along with your attached screen captured header file photo.

...Your Email Request: Can you kindly advise me the easiest way to add a ...Last Month's Earnings Amount Statement... similar to as shown in my sample screen capture image attached herewith, to my own Thesis Powered Blog Site?

Note: They may request a link to checkout your 'Thesis Blog Site' where the code is to be added.

To speed things up you may want to be pro-active and add your site URL in the email.

Who knows... They may have a really easy manual DIY solution or offer assistance to walk you through what needs to be done!

      Wishing you success.

This is an excellent suggestion! I totally didn't even think to ask for help from them. They actually have a support forum, which I totally forgot about. Thanks a lot for this!

The answer was the 'Jellyfish counter widget'.

    Thanks all!
