I've NEVER been so excited to stop article marketing and start writing FOR REAL! Here's why...

I'm an article marketer, and I don't like it, but I don't hate it. I get good sales from it, but now I think things are about to change.

This morning I just felt tired of writing content for a site that's not mine. All this time spent writing for someone else, I could have an authority site worth hundreds of thousands by now! It got me thinking... School is starting soon for me, and I need to go ahead and start my plan now so I can do quick maintainence/updating/writing everyday after school.

So, I started looking for popular search trends and topics that I was interested in learning more about. Last night, I was talking with my mom and sisters about travel and I realized I LOVED travelling. Thus, I began looking at niches about travelling. Somehow, I got this AMAZING domain name! NewYorkCheapHotels.org. OMG, I'm gonna be rich after I do all this writing!

I've never been so motivated and excited about IM before. I've already gotten approved for hotel and travel affiliates at LinkShare and I've even found some travel ebooks at Clickbank.

My point is: Article marketing is great. But I'm not what you'd call a "newbie" anymore. It's time for me (and maybe you too!) to stop putting all your writing on other sites. YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN!

I'll be sure to tell you all what happens and keep looking at the site to see it's progress.

  • Good luck with that. Only 10% of people book travel online. And that's a very competitive niche. The bottom line with travel is people will shop it to death for price, but in the end they pick up the telephone and make the reservation.

Then you have to deal with Exclusives from some Affiliates. And tracking not working.

"People don't want Tuna with Good Taste, people want Tuna that Tastes good!" -- Very Old Starkist ads. You have to know what they want before you can give it to them. And just having a thousand articles on your site makes no difference.

Travel Sites are database driven because the offers continually change.

It's all about knowing your market.

Congrats! Building your own business (as opposed to somebody else's business) is one of the best decisions an internet marketer can make.

Good luck and I hope you all the best.

I'm actually going the other way around and decided to do article marketing in a big way..

    Keep me informed.

Be interesting to compare notes along the way and I'll do likewise.

In fact, we should swap emails and test this out over the coming months.

Let me know what you think.

I agree with your idea. I am doing something similar. I decided that I am going to build one or two sites and make them huge and on topics I actually care about. No more spreading myself thin and worrying only about the things that have the best commissions.

Seeing as there's a few people doing this maybe we should make this thread sticky and keep each other updated on this specific topic and your domains.

    What do you think?

I think it's great that you've decided to start building your own VRE. It's something I have to start doing more of. I think I'm addicted to the quick money of article marketing, even though I know that it's in my best interest to write for my own sites.

The travel niche is competitive, but there is certainly no shortage of products and offers you can promote. As time goes on, I think you will find more people booking online. The reason I do it is that I tend to see better pricing.

That would be a good idea. I'd like to see the different projects and things that people are working on.

All I can say to you ambrown is go for it. Thats the way to go.

Start building your very own authority website and search engines will greatly reward you.

I started building my very own authority niche websites 2 months ago and I'm seeing traffic from Google like never before.

My article pages are over ranking ezine articles in most keywords.

A word of advice is to make sure every page you build you get some backlinks for that page so its ranks well.

    All the best!

Whenever I hear people say that they want to stop writing for someone else's website and put their content on their own site I always think, why not do both?

There's nothing wrong with writing articles to get traffic from article directories and also putting the content on your own site. I try to get as much mileage as possible from my articles and there are dozens of ways to use the content you create. It doesn't have to be either / or.
