Create Digital Product Store Without WordPress

I am searching for a solution that will allow me to create a digital product store that is self-hosted and not complicated. I would prefer not to deal with membership plugins with WordPress.

To give an idea of exactly what I looking for, softwarestorecreator.com is almost exactly what I am looking for. It is a standalone php script with all of the options I need except that it will not allow recurring payments for digital downloads and I don't think you can add a video to the sales page to show a demo of software or video tutorials so the buyer can get an idea of what they are getting. i would prefer html capability like WordPress for the product description section so it looks a little more like a sales page. However, I am willing to give that up if I need to. I would also like better Facebook integration than this script has. It is set up more for Twitter.

    Nancy,

At least give this a serious look . . .

Warrior Suzanne ("sbucciarel") has an awesome e-commerce store package using WooCommerce. She adds tons of extensions that would cost you thousands otherwise. Lots of satisfied customers and a steal for the money.

    Suzanne's offer

    She is customer-centric.

Thanks Steve! There's a lot of features. I will look closely at this and see if it will meet all of my needs and weigh it against a few other things that I have found.

Thanks, it is on my 'maybe' list as I narrow down the options.

    Hi Nancy

I'm not sure why you have issue with Wordpress membership plug-ins, but none the less, there is always something about a 3rd party product/package that isn't quite you want. You generally have two options:

    1. Live without that feature/functionality or live with that UI issue
    2. Start with the next closest thing and then customise it (either yourself or pay someone)

Option 2 is the only way you will get exactly what you want! Option 1 will get you up and running, perhaps with some irritations or inefficiencies, but up and running... the choice is yours! Please feel free to PM/Skype me for more information on some options in the 3rd party arena or customisation.

True. There is always something that you can't have. I own a few WordPress membership plugins. I just prefer to stay away from WordPress, mainly because I am working with a friend who can do customization of php scripts or create a site from scratch but is not experienced with WordPress.

So are you selling digital downloads or a membership site?

If you are doing digital downloads, there are tons of carts available that will let you deliver digital goods. Forget Zen Cart and OS commerce, those antiquated systems will not help you. You can do Prestashop and Opencart which will allow you to deliver digital goods, out of the box.

If you are doing memberships, it makes it a little tougher since most shopping carts don't have that functionality.

Finally, don't forget gumroad, fetch app and others that will let you sell and deliver products as well. You can do this all in drupal but to be honest, using a membership app from wordpress will be an easier learn for you.

If you can let us know what exactly you are selling, it would be easier to guide you besides, I don't want to use wordpress.

Looks like you confused people by stating you dont want to use wordpress.

Here are 2 from the olden days:
    Zen cart: https://www.zen-cart.com/
OS commerce: Creating Online Stores Worldwide | osCommerce

Thanks for the input everyone! I found the perfect solution in a php script that was actually modified by someone who added all of the elements that I need! I started adding products and it works like a charm!

To answer the question about what I am selling, it is a membership site that sells digital goods.

Most cool, Nancy. Mind telling us the name of the script and what was wrong with a WordPress solution?

If someone is sufficiently skilled to work with PHP, working with WordPress should be a doddle - WordPress is in-fact a PHP based application - why try to re-invent the wheel when you have something so powerful and versatile at your disposal - Yep WooCommerce is what you need.

People keep mentioning prestashop. Can someone link to a good implementation for digital goods? I started to set it up for my digital only store and found it geared towards physical goods with downloads as an afterthought.

I am currently using woocommerce but the process of creating products and uploading images is painfully slow.

      Thanks,
      Nik

Why don't you consider a custom CMS?

You can recycle the CMS for clients or even sell it.

Custom CMS aren't expensive as you think.

Get a coder at freelancer.com to knock one out for you since most are based on templates anyway.

It was mentioned before, but gumroad is fast and simple. You can set up a recurring membership or individual downloads. Gumroad handles the digital download part. Your 'store' can be on any platform, html, wordpress, etc and you just copy and paste a short line of code.

it is a simple and fast way to at least test your product ideas before committing to the time and money building out a full store on your own site.
