Need marketing advice - Free erotica site

Hi Everyone,

I'm looking for some advice on how I can market/promote my site Erotica Republic.

First a little background... Erotica Republic is a totally free site that features erotic stories for all genders and orientations. The way we intend to generate revenue is through advertising - mostly affiliate ads. We also share 50% of our ad revenue with the authors who post stories on the site.

Right now we have one distinct unique feature that none of our competition has... all of our stories are available for free download as PDF, MobiPocket and ePUB.

Here's my problem. We aren't seeing the traffic we'd obviously like to see. Being that the site is of adult nature, we are excluded from many common marketing techniques. For instance I believe sites like DIGG do not allow links to adult websites.

We have a really high returning visitor rate so I truly believe that people like the site and keep coming back. The hardest part is to get people to come in the first place. I feel that our innovative advantage over the competition is something of value and I need to get that message out there.

I've tried my best to SEO the site as best as possible (all white-hat), but google still only seems to send traffic that's searching specifically for my site, not any of the obvious keywords (erotica, free erotica, erotic stories, etc).

I really don't want to pay for advertisements as we really aren't selling anything, it just doesn't seem logical to do a PPC ad campaign for a free site.

If anyone can suggest anything, I'd very much appreciate it.

Thanks Warriors!

I'd go check out some of the adult forums - it's a whole different ball game in the adult market than most of the folks here deal with.

On the darker side of things there are a number of things you can do - but you can learn most of them in the adult marketing forums as well as the more legit ways.

Do you have backlinks in all of your pdf's and ebooks? Also you could pepper several of your pdfs with a lot of backlinks, and then turn them into torrents and submit them to one of the torrent search sites. You could get some fairly decent traffic from that if you label your torrents right.

Also you may consider PPC just for a while to give your website a kickstart. Especially if your's is the kind of site that retains repeat viewers.

I pull my sites routinely above about 20-50M of competing pages onto the first page of google by the virtue of writing useful software for webmasters and then distributing it for free.
Each free install gives me one way pure organic backlinks with rich anchor text of my choice.
Once I collect about 2000-3000 backlinks - competition is essentially massacred.
It doesn't matter what keywords are.

One of my 6 weeks old domains with 1 page of static content is now on the first page above microsoft.com, stanford.edu and government .gov sites.

I am thinking about offering such service for clients - if interested - feel free to contact me. It won't be cheap but none of traditional means would work for adult sites anyways.

Using the backlings for each stories so that they can return to your site. Also you can use the sites those who uploaded various types of movies for download you can give your add there.
