Paying for Banner Traffic -- Care to share your experience?

Whatever your niche is, have you ever paid for banners on other people's blog or maybe an ad network like BuySellAds.com maybe. I would love to hear your results, your strategies. I am thinking for paying for some banner ads and not quite sure what to look out for before I jump in...

Step 1: Create different banner designs which all go to the same landing page.

Step 2: Run campaigns on all banner designs. Rotate them.

Step 3: Pick the best converting design and make variations of that.

Step 4: Keep tweaking the designs based on which designs get the most conversions.

The key is to arrive at a design that produces predictable conversions.

I'm running a banner ad on buysellads right now (300x250 middle right sidebar). Not really going so well haha :/

I'm promoting managed WordPress hosting right now on a well known blog with WordPress tips and strategies, so the offer is on a site with the target audience. It's important that your offer matches the audience on whatever site your going to promote on.

So far I've had about 45,000 impressions (15 days with 15 to go yet) with over 55 clicks (30 unique) (.12% CTR) which is about average for display ads. I'm also using additional link tracking because the tracking in buysellads is pretty basic. So make sure you use additional tracking for your links.

Still no sales yet, but I only need 1 sale to break even, so I'm still hopeful.

Banner ads are a great way to get awareness (cheap impressions) however, the click through rate with display ads is incredibly low. Not sure if I'm going to run anymore campaigns, but I still have 15 days to go yet on my ad so I'll see.

Revcontent.com is the place to go for quality traffic, in my experience at least. They deny more than 90% of websites that try to get into their network.

  • Just make sure you create small test campaigns using minimal amounts of money first. I use BuySellAds sometimes. One time I put up a banner on a high trafficked gaming site and they sent my money back. I guess even though I placed an ad over the minimum impressions required, it was still not enough to get me any traffic so they just returned the money to me. I also use Bidvertiser but like everything, you have to test your specific banner at these places. What may work for someone else, at the same place, might not work for you and vice versa.

Hi Kidino... the future is mobile... and mobile traffic providers are getting way more targeted than before. Something super affiliates know but don't usually share.

One of the companies I like is http://decisive.is/, but I know of close to 500 others.

    Cheers

Make sure to match the demographics of your ideal prospects to that of the site you want to place your banner on. Takes testing. Always start small and you can always grow when you found something working. Maybe create your banner specifically for a certain website. The idea is to get clicks... which is why we are doing it in the first place. Optimizing

OK, gathering from past readings, little experience, the plan is

    - make sure to track, which banner sends more traffic, which banner converts, sources, etc...
    - test out small campaign before scaling up big
    - find the right audience

About mobile ads -- I think it depends on what you sell, right? I am selling software. Do you think that it would be good to advertise on mobile?

Another idea -- anybody tried those content recommendation platforms like Taboola, Outbrain, etc? But I think you need to start with a really engaging content first, right?

I signed up to BannersGoMLM back in the day and spent a small fortune and received very little in return. Is that company even around anymore?

That was pretty much my only experience with paying for banner traffic and needless to say, was a very poor experience.

Not sure how much that helps or not but knowing about one more company to steer clear from is good info in my opinion. Good luck!
