Have you tried craigslist? It might work you just can't directly promote your affiliate link there.

There are no active links in Craigslist any longer. The more resources Craigslist takes away, the more they are living off of what people remember they were.

Try this little trick depending on your service. This works especially if it's a local service.

Google post ad free Honolulu replacing Honolulu with your town. I do this all the time and it helps me to get found by my computer clients. The nice thing about classified sites is you can have multiple posts with various keywords in them. Only about half the sites to which I submit have active links. I wish someone had a list of those actually.

After Google use Bing. I get better search results from Bing now since Google is spending most of its time trying to keep people out of its search engine.

Personally, I never thought IM stuff did well on Classified sites. Especially a site like Craigslist which is already way over spammed. It's like trying to advertise in a Yahoo chat room, lol.

My recommendation: For IM stuff you should be focusing on advertising through other platforms instead. Twitter and LinkedIn are awesome places for people in the Technology industry!

A resource I used for over 16 years for classified newspaper advertising was nationwideadvertising.com. For best results, you should have a dedicated phone line with up to a 3 minute message along with your website url. Coupled with article marketing in the best pulling publications, I have found this to be a powerful system for building huge lists/downlines. Most of the offline publications listed often have online components which can add extended leverage to your marketing campaigns.

That is very interesting, have you had positive return of investment? I have also seen that Backpage has paid services as well. Has anyone used it with successful results?

IMO, offline classified advertising is better, faster, and cheaper than any form of paid advertising I know - bar none. Using this resource - nationwideadvertising.com, you can almost immediately target millions of prospects by city, state, region and demographics. In addition, you can quickly find the best-pulling publications for enhanced advertising (display ads, full-page, etc).

Over the years I have quite often used nationwideadvertising.com for quickly testing the ad response rate of publications for list-building. Although direct selling of products through classified ads seldom is profitable on the front end, it is a relatively inexpensive method for generating leads and/or testing publications for conversion rates.

For example, in my marketing model of successively higher end products culminating in an MLM opportunity offer, an acceptable conversion rate from these initial tests would result in a series of escalated advertising options up to and including article syndication. So, in answer to your question, the long-term ROI has been huge.

Online classified ads can work, but just to get the attention of prospective buyers requires a powerful title or "hook" that stands out from competitors. Keep in mind that undifferentiated "free ads" may not be seen by your targeted audience.

And, these type of ads typically roll out of view within a few days (or even hours). The first 3-4 words in the heading or title are critical. Ad content must arouse the curiosity of readers and provoke them to immediately take the next step to get more information.

In general, never try to sell products directly in a classified ad. In my experience it's usually best to focus on one specific product of wide appeal to the demographics of readers.

The call to action (ie free details, report, or whitepaper in exchange for contact information) needs to be urgent, timely, and compelling.

You might also consider placing classified ads in niche-specific ezines ... yes they do work with the right publications that are already targeting your prospects. Even better are solo ads. Check out the directory of ezines for publishers targeting your market.

I like ebay classifieds and have had computer tutoring and virus removal calls from my ads. The renew process is very simple as well. They just send a link to your email. Once you click it you're automatically renewed without having to go through the normal click next routine.

Hint: Whether it's required or not, get an account with any classified site you use. You can check hits, edit and receive notifications to renew your ads much easier.

Craigslist is still king for online ads.

I have also used paid offline classified ads in PennySaver papers, Thrifty Nickel papers and other newspapers, both in small towns and large cities, with good results.

Nationwideadvertising(dot)com as mentioned by MYOB is a good source to place offline classified ads. There are a couple of other sources for offline ads in daily or weekly papers which sometimes have lower rates. I don`t want to share them here, (sorry) because I don`t want to create more competition for my offline ads.

Putting a toll-free phone number in your ads works well if you say something like "Call 1-800-xxx-xxxx Ext. 456 for a 24 hour recorded message which reveals more details..."

Your website URL as well, so you have 2 ways to collect leads. Some people who read papers are still not internet savvy and prefer to call a phone number and leave their name, e-mail address, etc.

Here is a list of online classfied sites which get me a fair amount of traffic :

Work from Home & Self Employed Jobs in Brownsville, TX | Job Listings on Oodle Marketplace

USA Free Classifieds Ads - Apartments Help Wanted Ads Personals Autos For Sale Events - Buy or Sell anything For Free

    http://www.salespider.com/online-cla...ee-advertising

Classifieds - Free Classified Ads Online

    Adpost.com American Classifieds > USA > American Classifieds,free

customer service jobs in United States - Adlandpro Free Classifieds

    Houston - business opportunities - backpage.com

Houston Job and Employment Listings | Houston Job Listings

    Customer Service Jobs - Claz.org

Search Customer Service in United States pg 1

I outsource my ad posting to a couple of Fiverr workers.

Having said all of that, CL is still King of online classifieds, but you have to really know what you are doing there these days to get results from it (and not get your ads deleted, ghosted, etc.)

In years past I was paid a monthly retainer by several companies to advertise their services on Craigslist.

    - Diamond District Jewelers
    - Upscale Manhattan Locksmith
    - Art Galleries

Although it paid well I had to shut it down as there was more income coming from other business opportunities.

I still see IM, MLM and MMO related ads daily on CL so it's definitely still can be done. You just have to know how to do it and not get ghosted.

I have tried some of the following sites, with some success:
ClassifiedsGiant.com Backpage.com Tnol.com adpost.com washingtondc.craigslist.org classified4u.biz zikbay.com freeclassifieds.com kedna.comYou just have to experiment with them. Take a lot of consistent action. Track everything you do, so you can learn what works best.

Track everything, the link, and the copy-write for the ad. You want to learn what makes people click the most!

    I hope this helps!

    Keep up the great work!

From my experience you can find success with classified sites but as mentioned by some of these fine readers and warriors, it's best not to directly sell... you are trying to get them to take action to a blog, or sells page of some type... making you a third party almost.

Remember the point of the ad is to get them to click through to the actual sells page or blog where they will be sold. This means its all about ad copy and style....

    Some basic help:
Be different - don't bleed into the rest - be creative in your titles and body
Use Capitol Letters For Every First Letter In Title Like Shown Here <----
Don't give away to much info... keep it elusive yet tantalizing

As mentioned earlier,...track and test everything... down to every word used...

Stay blessed and best of luck!

The number one way to make money that I stumbled on to was placing tiny classified ads in the newspaper. If you create and test one tiny classified ad in the newspaper that makes just $30 to $40 profit in a week it could make you a fortune. Because the secret is learning how to take that one tiny classified ad that just made $30 to $40 profit in a week and to realize that you could take that same exact ad and place in up to 3,000 other newspapers around the country. That's what I did. I found tiny classified ads that made $30 to $40 profit in a week and I placed those ads in around a thousand other newspapers around the country. That's how I generated over $50,000 a week out of my one bedroom apartment.

The agency I mentioned above has "legit" newspapers for classified ads. Most of these publications also have online components, so the potential reach of prospects is greatly enhanced, although still a distant second to my most favorite traffic generation method.

I would usually get the 1 million circulation 20-word classified ad special for $180, but quite often they would run a 25 million circulation special (currently $2,500). If you were to pay for these ads individually in each publication, the cost would be exorbitant.

For maximum traction and results, you need to run these ads for multiple insertions (ie 4-6 consecutive times).

I've only ever used craigslist and backpage for ads in the past.

Craigslist sent a bucket load of traffic to my squeeze pages (why not build a list with that traffic??) but backpage needed A LOT of ads to get about a quarter of the craigslist traffic.

I would concentrate on doing anything you can to get some ads/posts on CL before looking at the other options. The traffic from any other sources doesn't even come close to CL, and believe me from asking around to other people in classifieds CL is your best bet.

I suggest you post your question in the product review section or offline marketing forum. Comparatively few online online marketers upstairs here have any practical offline marketing experience applicable to your apparent marketing model. FYI, the company has been around a very long time and is always adding more publishers.

Try Craigslist / Ebay and backpage.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[10178181].message }}
  • It depend on the niche..

Craigslist is on the top of the list for Products and Real Estate Businesses in USA
Backpage is also good for Real Estate and ya for adult section in USA and Canada.
Kijiji for Real estate in Canada.
Gumtree is good for product, services and real estate businesses in Australia.
    Rentlinx is for Real Estate.
Postlets is also good for real estate businesses.

BTW Craigslist is good for services as well if you do more posting and spread them in the whole day.. add the focus keywords more time soo CL always slow your ad in the top of search results on Craigslist against that specific keyword.. This will process will help to generate more leads through Craigslist..
