Is it possible to get a ROI within a week of outsourcing?

Hi, so soon I am hoping to hire a few people on odesk for a few dollars or so an hour, maybe $2 to $3 at the most per hour, but since I only have about $500~ of disposable funds I was hoping that there are avenues of near-instant income producing activities that I could direct the workers to do so I don't have to worry about risk paying their wage for 1-2 weeks without ever noticing any sales.

I imagine that they would have to do some sort of online direct marketing so they can reach directly to potential customers, rather than having them spend weeks on trying to build a social media / website presence using seo etc? It's just that I don't want to risk my money on PPC etc., because I spent a few hundred on it before, I did get a good amount of leads but I'm horrible at following up and closing so the money went to waste. Instead, I'm hoping to train the odesk worker(s) to handle the sales process entirely.

A few methods of marketing for near-instant result that I was thinking of are cold emailing businesses from listing on yellow pages with a professional concise conversation-engaging opening email, cold calling (but for this I would have to get a voip calling service such as ring central), directly promoting products on social media pages to people, sharing information on niche-relevant forums.

You should already have this answer BEFORE you outsource.

Outsourcing is for scaling up something that already works.
First you do it, figure out a system that makes money then you duplicate yourself or remove yourself from that task with outsourcing.

It is clear from your post you have little or no clue what you are doing with your business, or even what you plan to do.

The one thing I can advise is the last thing you should be doing at this stage is spending any of your $500 on staff.

I'd say you need to learn to walk before you can run. But I don't think you've figured out how to crawl in IM yet.

    Best of luck bud.

Keep your money and spend some time using the search button at the top of this page. Sounds like you have alot to learn about the game of internet marketing. Your best bet would probably be to start a website and spend a few hundred dollars on adding content to it. You can then use adsense. amazon, clickbank. cpas, hosting, etc to make your money back and have something that could be making you money for years to come. This is more of a marathon verses the 100 yard dash but if you keep with it for a year or two this could make you alot more than what you already have to invest. I really don't see you having much luck cold calling people and the best way to advertise on social media like Facebook is going to be PPC. You are going to need to have some great content that people will read and share 1st though

Find an excellent product (or service) in an evergreen, targeted market, that genuinely solves a problem or fills a much sought after need (or desire) ... preferably one with hungry buyers.

Find out where these people - this targeted market - hang out (where the targeted traffic is), and put yourself (your excellent product or service) in front of all this hungry, targeted traffic.

If you buy an apple for a $1, and sell it for $2 ... you just doubled your money.
Your ROI is 100% and it shouldn't take you a week to do it
but maybe a day, an hour, a minute, over and over again ...
    then wash, rinse, repeat.

Once you find something that works ... something that produces a profit consistently,
work on ways of making it even better, optimizing your offer and marketing methods.

Too often, people focus on the money-making aspect rather than on a valuable, genuine offer.
Chances are, if you find something that you, yourself are excited about ... and offer it to like-minded people, (your targeted traffic), the ROI comes naturally, effortlessly, and without resistance.

I can tell you this: there's a lot of money being made from outsourcing. You're in the wrong location to get answers, though. I can tell you that one of your ideas has merit. I'd say more, but sometimes business models take time, investment, and effort to learn. I'd be very surprised if anyone shared a particularly good one here. The best advice I can give you: learn how to make a high ROI from a combination of basic tasks. You then farm out portions of those tasks to VAs, but never the whole system. You'd also do well to choose your VAs wisely. Look for newbies with enough smarts to pull off simple, repetitive tasks, but insufficient smarts, ambition, or finances to steal the systems as a whole.

Why don't you invest your time to learn all steps of Internet marking yourself and then outsource the part that you cannot do yourself? If you want to hire other to sell your products, then hire on results basis only. Means only pay them when they make a sale for you. Otherwise all of your money will be gone within few days with almost zero return.

You need to learn how to build email list effectively. How to contact your email subscribers to help them and earn commission by referring good products. I advise you to write at least 30-50 emails for your email subscribers. Hire someone to write these emails for you if you are not good at it. Put all these well written emails with good subjects in your autoreponder. You must be promoting multiple products in your emails. Make sure that these emails are highly converting.

Now put all your efforts to grow your email list. Spend money to buy facebook traffic to your landing page to collect leads. Make youtube videos. Upload slideshare.net files. After few weeks you will be able to see the results and stats.

    For example suppose:

You got 1000 targeted people to your landing page in X days.
About 300 of them subscribed to your email list - 30% conversion
Out of these 300 subscribers around 100 actually opened your emails - 33% conversion
Out of these 100 subscribers 10 people bought your products - 10% conversion here
Suppose you earn $50 per sale then you have earned $500.

It means for every 1000 targeted people who visit to your website, you earn $500. In other words 1 targeted visitor to your website is of $0.5 worth. This is the stat that you really need.

I prefer calculating this value per visitor after 10,000 visitors see your landing page, for more accuracy.

Now you can run expensive Facbook Campaigns for your landing page too. For example I would prefer to buy targeted traffic to my landing people at the cost not more than $0.2. It means I will be earning $0.3 for every visitor I get from facebook. Now scale it. Invest $200/day on facebook to get 1000 visitors per day. And you will be earning around 1000x$0.3 = $300 per day (net profit).

Hope you get the idea :-)

It's possible but you need to know what already works. You should already have metrics in place from things that have already had an ROI for you that you can base success on. The person you are hiring is not going to know how YOU do things so you would need to give them a baseline.

For example, if you are going to have them do a cold emailing campaign you will have to give them targeted email addresses, let them know how many emails per day, and what the average conversion rate is per X amount of emails that are sent out.

Without that you and your outsourcer are flying blind.

You're the only who should be able to answer that question...

    And if you can't...

You should probably take a little more time to get an idea of what needs to be done.
